A few days ago, we received an email from Daryl Scott, a photographer from Seymour, Indiana correcting a recently published story on the "Steam Punked" hot rod I recently shot at SEMA. It turns out that I had incorrectly credited my favourite SEMA 2011 build, it was actually constructed by Slaughterhouse Customs and is called The Jackal. I hereby stand corrected!...

High horse power cars are loads fun to drive and to get rides in. But sometimes, a little bit of horse power in an equally small car can be even more fun. This is the case with many cult classics over the years. Think about the Honda Civic, the Mazda Miata, the Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Golf. All those cars are practical cars with just enough power to some fun. The biggest characteristic of all was the fact that they were an absolute hoot to drive around a corner. Chevy is looking to get...

SEMA is a trade show which exists solely so that people can impress other people. Be it with their booth set ups, car builds or flashy after parties, SEMA is always dressed to impress. Though not everyone will be able to --especially with the hundreds of cars on display. So to have a show stopping car, it either must've had pixey dust sprinkled on it or be built by some truly inspired and insane people. This Cadillac is one of those cars. The car started off originally as a 1960 Cadillac Coupe...

Two days is mere minutes in SEMA time. There's so much to do and so much to see in the three giant convention halls and an outside parking lot. As I made my way around the SEMA show floor in fast forward, I saw fleeting glimpses of cars. So when a car at SEMA does catch my eye, it means that it is something rather special. Take this 2010 Mercedes E350 for example. It's a car that was floating in a sea of other automobiles trying their hardest to stand out, be different and noticed. But by...

It has become a tradition of mine at SEMA to seek out the BASF stand and the latest Ringbrothers creation. In recent years, the Ring Brothers have managed to create some unique muscle car builds. This year was no exception. This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro 'Diversion' was one of the stars of the show and was faultless. Mike and Jim Ring, based out of Wisconsin, started rebuilding cars as kids. They have earned themselves a reputation in first class builds and often include their signature custom...

And now for something completely different... One of the best things about SEMA is the eclectic mix of vehicles at the show. One of the biggest shows of any kind in North America, you get everything from rat rods to supercars, sub compacts to lowriders. This particular 1963 Chevrolet Impala 'El Rey’ stood out from the crowd and this was a great opportunity to touch on a a genre that we don't regularly cover. This was one of the stars of the show for me, even if this is not my usual...

It's said that some 100 thousand people attend SEMA each year and I'll wager a guess, that the vast majority of them are not there to gawk at cars. No, most people go to SEMA to do business: to showcase new products, find new business partners and network, network, network. Sure everyone loves a well constructed customized car, but the main reason the aftermarket industry come to Vegas has more to do with business development and growing your business card collection than anything else. So...

It's likely that Henry Ford would roll over in his grave, if he could see what people were doing to his beloved Model As. It makes you wonder what people will be doing to Honda Civic shells eighty years from now. Transformed into flying cars? Recycling bins? Teleportation pods? This 1930 Model A sedan has been so severely recreated as a zombified Hot Rod, it's hard to see much of the original machine. But I think this is the appeal! It's a great example of the Steam Punk styled creativity...

I've noticed a resurgence in 70s Chevrolet Camaros at recent SEMA Shows, and this year's event was no exception. One example was this clean 1972 Camaro that has been owned by the same family since the late 70s. Jerry Fernandez Sr has owned this Camaro since the last 70s. When he started a family, he decided to store it rather than sell it. A wise move as it turned out. Once his first son came of age, he took over the Camaro. Over the course of the last ten years, the Camaro has gone through...

Hope you guys have liked our breakdown of some of the interesting cars from this year's SEMA Show. For my final contribution, I want to share one of my favorite cars from the entire show. Unlike some of the other cars we've spotlighted from SEMA, there's nothing controversial or over groundbreaking about this '63 Mercury Comet convertible. It just works....

Time for our second look at the car manufacturers that were part of SEMA. You can read Part One here , where we looked at Chevrolet and Scion amongst others. Although small, Mazda had a great line-up of cars on their stand. Tucked away from the main halls, the North American Division showed two MX-5 concepts, both of which were great executions. Similar in concept to the recent Porsche Boxster Spyder, the Mazda MX-5 Spyder has a simple canopy roof, which transforms the profile of the car. The new...

Earlier we looked at a German machine with an American heart. Now let's turn the tables and look at an American classic that features some high tech German muscle under the hood. If you are at all familiar with the custom car world, then you've probably heard of Troy Trepanier and his shop Rad Rides. At this year's SEMA show, Troy debuted his latest build - a '54 Buick mated with a Mercedes G55 AMG....

At this year's Ford booth at SEMA, it seemed that the big crowds weren't gathered around one of the new models on display. The real draw was the matte gray first generation Bronco you see here. Now we don't feature too many off road type vehicles on Speedhunters, but the ICON Bronco is just too cool not to share....

As I made my way through the SEMA show last Monday, I found an interesting shape under a cover in the Source Interlink booth. I could tell by the profile that it was a B-body Mopar of some sort, but one that had been drastically altered. The following day, I cruised by again to find the Roadrattler, a heavily modified '69 Plymouth Roadrunner built by Spitzer Concepts and owned by Jim Mitchell....

Some of you may recall, the recent Art of the Badge articles, fellow Speedhunter Jonathan Moore wrote on the subject of classic automotive emblems at recent Goodwood Revival. These articles had a bit of a shockwave effect on the rest of the Speedhunters team, as it made us rethink a little bit about how we approach event coverage. While we'll always give you a high level overview of an event, Jonathan reminded us that it's also refreshing to showcase specific details across a wide variety...
