The Essen Motorshow is fast approaching and this year it is going to be a bit different than previous years. I've already seen some stuff they have in store for us this year, so I'm real anxious to attend the show at the end of November. One of the cars that will be present is this VW. The basis is a VW pick-up truck from 1965 which Wayne Allman from the British county of Warwickshire has converted into a dragster. Of the original truck, only the driver's cabin has been retained. The...

The vintage drag racing scene in the US has been chronicled quite well, but how about across the pond?
I was browsing the old YouTube today when I came across some fantastic UK drag footage from Time Travel DVD's.
Some crazy machines here!

This is the fastest R35 GT-R on European roads according to the internet rumors. It just did a 9.84 pass @ 145mph at Santa Pod Raceway in the UK. The engine has been fully rebuilt with lots of custom parts like IHI GT30 turbos and 1000cc injectors. A full list of the work carried out on the car can be found on the GT-R Register forum . -Jeroen Willemsen GTC Racing Technology

For part two of our Rotorstock coverage I'm going to take a look at the on-strip action. The day consisted of open RWYB sessions along with a round of the 2010 HKS Drag Series and the new HKS Drag Academy. Most of the sessions were flooded with non-Rotary powered cars but the few that did run were always interesting to watch. The above FD is just a split second away from showering me with hot slick tires. For a level, straight piece of tar, Santa Pod has a great atmosphere and sense of presence...

2010 was the seventh annual gathering of all things rotary at Santa Pod Raceway. It was not only my first ever trip to the Bedfordshire drag strip but my first trip to any drag strip.I'm not very well educated in the Church of Rotor so I considered this trip one of enlightenment. Coming from the Ford Fair , any car show was going to feel small. The small turnout however did reveal some gems. This chrome wrapped FD was certainly eye catching. This Tiger sportscar was running a 13B, expect a spotlight...

The Beetle might be the people's car, and the Golf GTi the people's hot hatch, but the fourth BMW Show at Santa Pod proved that the BMW 3-series is without doubt the people's performance car – in Europe at least. The acres of car park were rammed with examples of all five body styles of the iconic 3-Series, and fleshed out with smaller corrals of other popular BMW models. As usual for Santa Pod shows, there were three main areas to discover over the weekend. The car clubs turned...

Hahaha... forget triple drift... in this video Ben Broke-smith, Phil Morrison, Martin Ffrench, Peter Barber and Brett Castle from the Need for Speed European Drift Championship come together, to make a five car drift train, at last weekend's event at Santa Pod... I'm not sure who made the video but it has some pretty good colour grading happening too...

Going along the events like the Retro Show you get to meet enthusiasts, folks who spend their own time and money on things that go faster. It is completely different from the mindset of professional sport encountered at places like Le Mans and none the worse for that. We all started as petrol heads even though some of us are lucky enough to scrape a living from this frivolous activity. So as I strolled round the paddock area I thought it would be appropriate to make notes and tell the stories of...

Santa Pod was real busy over the weekend, Ross has already brought you the latest EDC action from Saturday and I made the trek round the M25 and M1 early Sunday morning to have a look at this year's Retro Show. It was Editor Rod's idea to send me as this sort of event, get back to your car enthusiast past, he commanded. To be truthful, I wasn't sure about this or what to expect when I got there. I suspect that had he been there it would have been a very different article but the diversity...

There is a corner of Santa Pod that is forever Japan. It just seemed right to see the hordes of Japanese car clubs packing out the hard stand that runs alongside the drag strip: from the biggest, meanest supra-cars to more modest town hatchbacks via the cleanest classics this side of Tokyo. From the moment I arrived on-site it was clear just how popular the event is: the parking field was packed and the camping areas full of tents. The quarter mile provided the focus for the weekend - particularly...

Ah yes, as you've seen throughout the month here on Speedhunters, we are pretty excited for the new season of motorsport around the world. In keeping with that theme, we just came across these shots taken at a preseason drift practice day at England's Santa Pod Raceway thanks to James, who was there shooting trackside. From the pics, it looks like there was a nice variety of cars out there, including a few pros from the European drift scene....

There was an impressive turn-out for the GTI Spring Festival, the first big VW event of 2009 - and also my first posting for Speedhunters. Even the British weather (which threw hail down the day before) smiled on us, with the rain holding off and the odd ray of sun burning through the clouds. Warmer than Japan, for sure...
Santa Pod was crammed with thousands of pristine examples of GTIs, and rocked to the sounds of booming bass and shredding tyres. ...

This weekend it was EDC time again as Europe's best drifters headed to Santa Pod Raceway in England for the fourth round of this year's series. Besides the all of the EDC regulars, the roster also included Team Orange's Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka making an appearance in their second round of EDC competition after an impressive performance last month at Silverstone. In addition, this round also saw Adam Richardson, the former champion of the D1 New Zealand series making his EDC debut in his A31 Nissan Cefiro. The makeshift course at Santa Pod makes for an interesting contrast to some of the more traditional circuits that are seen on the EDC schedule and throughout the event there would be some very exciting action with the competitor's cars getting extremely close to each other during the tandem matches. Of course the event would not be without its casualties either, as you saw by Rod's post about Paz's AE86......

For fans of JDM tuning who live in the UK, the "Jap Show" events are the place to be. The most recent event was held at Santa Pod Raceway alongside the HKS drag series and Racer86 was there to snap some photos for those of us who weren't there......
