Our friends at WORLD Racing recently released this video of the last Global Time Attack event of 2011. Held at Sonoma, Chris Rado pushed the Team Need for Speed Scion tC2 to 1:45.320; a time good enough to set a new FWD track record.

It was only a matter of time. As the successor to the legendary AE86 - one of the cars that founded the sport of drifting - it was only right that a Scion FR-S would be on the 2012 Formula DRIFT grid. Unveiled today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, this is the car that Ken Gushi will steer in this year's FD series. The turbocharged FR-S is a collaboration with GReddy and will feature parts developed by Cosworth, KW Suspension, Sparco and RAYS. Although few details were...

The folks over at Motor Trend have an interesting scoop for those following developments on the Scion FR-S/Toyota 86. This week somebody spotted what is clearly a turbocharged FR-S doing some drifting at Laguna Seca. There's no word whether this is related to production car development, or testing for a competition drift car. On one hand the big wing says race car, but on the other it's not too often you see drift teams go to Laguna Seca for testing. Whatever it is, it's definitely promising! Head over to Motor Trend for more. -Mike Garrett...

While the main purpose for my trip to SoCal over the weekend was to cover the Mooneyes X-Mas Party in Irwindale, I thought I should also drop by Cars & Coffee while I was in the area. With a long day of Speedhunting ahead of me, I got up early on Saturday and headed down to the Mazda HQ in Irvine to take a look....

A few days ago we ran a small teaser showing the FR-S drifting and today we have our video of it in action. It's a fun, back to basics car, and in the hands of Formula DRIFT driver Ken Gushi it looks perfectly content with wagging its tail. Dino and Larry have more FR-S articles coming your way, including a detailed test drive analysis and some behind the scenes insights. I also hear filmmaker Luke Huxham is brewing up another video...

I am, by no means, new to press events. But to this day, I still find them to be a strange affair with an almost fantasy-like quality. Back in August, I had the opportunity to attend the North American debut of Pagani's newest car , the Huayra. It was rather posh event filled with free flowing champagne, fruit infused sparkling water and exquisite hors d'oeuvres whose names I'll never be able to pronounce. And in those few hours, I was in the fantasy land created by Mr. Pagani himself...

Along with the red production model , Scion also unveiled a modified version of the FR-S. Built by GReddy, this black example featured small, but significant, aftermarket additions. Although the body remained untouched, the GReddy FR-S showed a glimpse of the tuning potential of the FR-S. The Volk G12 forged wheels measured 19x8.5 +45 at the front and 19x9.5 +45 at the rear. The front brakes were fitted with four-piston GReddy calipers. We spent a fair bit of time on our hands and knees looking up...

With the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ now unveiled to the public, it was time for the Scion version to have its moment in the spotlight. Tonight, in the heart of Hollywood, California, Scion put on an invite-only event to debut the fifth car in their line up, the FR-S. And here is the final production version in the flesh. The exterior of the car looks very much the same as Toyota's offering in Japan... ...Although there are some slight differences. Compared to the JDM model that Dino sampled...

The SEMA Show is a huge event. This year is no exception. After a couple of slow years with the recession, business does seem to have picked up as the show floor is now packed with exhibits and the crowds yesterday, traditionally a quieter day, were huge. Different exhibitors use SEMA for different reasons, at one end of the scale, you have the individual who brings their prized proession to the show, all the way through to OEM Manufactures who want to show their latest cars and aftermarket products...

Why yes. Yes you do. Speedhunters readers in Sydney may have seen this giant billboard near the airport of the Toyota FT-86 II. I believe the version here is the concept that was shown earlier in the Geneva Motor Show. Anyone else getting excited? - Charles Kha

Here's some VERY promising insight for those awaiting the Toyota FT-86/Scion FR-S. Moto Miwa, a pioneer in the American AE86 scene and founder of Club4AG recently had a four-hour discussion with Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer on Toyota's rear-drive sports car project. Of course Moto isn't allowed to spill all the beans on what he's learned, but the thread he posted on Club4AG should be enough to get ANYONE excited about this car. He mentions that the car will be identical (save for...

There's a lot more to show from last weekend's Toyotafest event in Long Beach, so let's jump right back into it with part two. The Tokico Levin you see above was another one of my personal highlights of the show, looking like it just came from one of the AE86 meets at Tsukuba Circuit....

For the last 16 years, Toyota enthusiasts from all over the West Coast have gotten together at the Queen Mary in Long Beach for a massive gathering known as Toyotafest. This is the first time that we've actually covered this event on Speedhunters, as in the past it was always held on the same weekend as Formula Drift in Atlanta. This year though, it was held the following weekend and I was there to finally capture it, and what an event it was....

Going to New York for the International Auto Show was like a pilgrimmage for me. I was on top of the Empire State building in 2004 when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in photography. For this event, I tried my best to capture the essence of the show and the majestic city it is held in. I knew it was going to be a great day of Speedhunting after I bit into an authentic New York bagel. I started off my weekend with the unveiling of the Lexus LF-GH. I know some of you guys are not too keen about...

Head on over to www.ScionDimension.com to download hi-res images of the car and also to check out a release video. One more image after the jump.... With the unveiling of this Scion branded concept at the New York Auto Show, that must mean that the release of the production car is coming closer and closer. We can't wait to get our grubby little hands on one of these for a test drive already...

A week from today at the New York Auto Show, the Scion version of the FT-86 concept will debuted for the first time. Scion has released a quick teaser video for the new car, and it seems to be similar to the FT-86 II concept shown last month. The car will also be debuted live on April 20th at 1:40 pm Eastern on http://www.sciondimension.com/ . Here's hoping we also get some info on when the production version will be ready! -Mike Garrett
