While visiting the VW Fanatics show I wanted to focus a bit more on the cars that had full engine rebuilds. I spotted a group of cars that looked fairly similar exterior wise but all of them had something special under the hood. The cars belonged to a group of friends that are part of a team called Saugergroup . They call Osnabruck in Germany their home and have built their cars as road going hillclimb cars. I'll have a spotlight on all three cars but I wanted to start with this Volkswagen Typ53...

During my visit to the MIVW show I was invited to visit the VW Fanatics show . The setup is much smaller but the cars in attendance have a very high build quality. I selected several cars for spotlights but first it is time for a general overview of the event itself. The MKIII convertible above came all the way from France. The owner organizes the VW Days in France and is also responsible for the new Ferdinand clothing line. There was a great mix of cars that ranged from this orange MKI to... .....

Time for Part 2 of my first hillclimb coverage. In Part 1 I showed you portions of the race but now I wanted to concentrate on the road side paddocks and cars in general. The Scirocco above was one of many with this kind of extreme aero. All of these cars were purpose built and they had to drive on public roads to get from their own paddock to the start line. Some farmers opened their premises to accommodate some of the drivers and their cars. At one farm I found this cool NSU. They had an entire...

When I heard that there would be a Hillclimb race not far from where I live, I knew I had to be there. It has been on the to-do list for a while now so this was the perfect opportunity to get that one off the list. After seeing several videos from different races around Europe, I knew it would get crazy with some hardcore cars. The only thing that hampered the race throughout the day was the bad weather. I have never shot an event with so much rain, let alone a Hillclimb before. I tried my hardest...

Let's quickly start with part 2 of the coverage at the Wörthersee Tour . At the first day I was still wandering around the Shell gas station because the cars simply kept coming! This Golf V was extremely good at hardparking at the gas station. I have never seen rims going so far into the wheel well. The Bentley wheels looked gorgeous all chromed out. Again the people just showed u,p got their seats out and grabbed something to drink as they enjoyed the cars rolling by. There weren't...

Time for some Euro love with this report from EuroSunday in Belgium. Cars from different countries drove to the event to see what's hot and what's not. The Golf MKII above is definitely hot in my book. These Bentley wheels never looked better on a Audi TT. A perfect combination and flawlessly executed. Rotiform looks to be unstoppable in their quest for world domination. This Belgium Scirocco wears the Rotiform BRU with great pride. A great example of a great car. This 3 series with airbags...

I have visited the Essen Motor Show numerous times but this year had to be one of the greatest. The amount of cars was enormous and it is starting to look like the European Sema Show. A few of the biggest tuners from Germany were also present like Brabus and Techart. I will showcase their cars in two separate posts. If you haven't seen the show yet I highly recommend going there, the show lasts until 6 December. Let's quickly start with the cars that were on the show floor. One of the stars...

Now, I'm not quite sure if any watercooled Volkswagen can officially be called a "classic" yet, but if there was one model deserving of the title, it would be the first generation Scirocco. This 1979 model, owned by Tommy Vervoort of Belgium is certainly one of the cleanest examples of around....

In the midst of my recent holiday time, I ventured out to the TT Circuit in Assen for another dose of German cars to see the annual German Car Festival . I got to the track very early, just as cars were starting to roll into the venue. Inside the paddock I was greeted with these two cars from Oettinger. A Volkswagen Caddy and a Golf mk6, both of them featured the RXX wheels in a matte black finish. More on them later. This mk3 Golf was very pleasing to the eyes with a Vento front and deep blue color...

After 1500 kilometers and a total of 14 hours driving, I got home yesterday evening after attending the Tuning World Bodensee show. Nothing could prepare me at the sheer size and scale of this event. It was huge. With more than 15 halls that were filled with all sorts of cars and styling cultures it was one of the biggest events I ever attended. There was so much to look at and shoot. So I made sure that I had enough material to show you guys. Are you ready? First up is this Volkswagen Golf 4 with...

Here's some coverage from my first event of the year -the season opener in Holland. Streetpower by Automaxx is an event with a mix of activities at Zandvoort. It ranges from Gymkhana to Time Attack and off course show and shine on the paddock. I spent most of the day shooting the Time Attack cars and I was surprised to see how serious some of these machines have become over the years. Holland has made some enormous steps forward regarding car tuning. I didn't expect to see a R35 GT-R especially...

Let's continue my coverage of the Essen Motor Show with my second installment. Looking for Japanese cars on a German car show proved to be difficult. I found two S14s and this was one of them. It features what looks like a URAS bodykit and can be seen in action during the King Of Europe drifting championship. The wheels are made by Alutec, a major sponsor in drifting events throughout Germany, and go by the name Toxic. Another car I was looking for was the new Volkswagen Scirocco. But again I...

Today I had a job interview in Amsterdam and there I spotted this Scirocco with a full Rieger bodykit, it also had small sticker on the trunk saying MTM. They have a full engine package available for this car, so I hope it wasn't just stickerstuning. Seeing a Scirocco is one thing but seeing one like this in the capital of Holland really made my day. Can't wait for the Essen Motor Show at the end of this month. Last year I already saw several Scirocco's but I'm guessing there will...

Hot on the heels of our Scirocco GT24 post last week, Volkswagen have announced the new 2.0i TSI 265hp 'R' version of the Scirocco for the European market. As with all Volkswagen 'R' products it is presented in their 'Racing' Blue seen on the Golf R32 and GT24 race car. Visually, the car is similar to the GT24 with deeper front bumper and larger air intakes, compared to the standard version. A new gloss black grille with 'R' Insignia sits between the aggressive headlamps...

You can find some real gems browsing through the VWvortex forum. I just found this 1 st series Scirocco with a striking orange paintjob and perfect stance. You don't see many of them around these days, certainly not like this. -Jeroen Willemsen

In my opinion, VW's new Scirocco quite a looker straight off the showroom floor, but there is always room for improvement right? How about this Scirocco from by the German tuning company Oettinger? The car improves on the Scirocco's already wide stance with subtle aero work and a set of ultra wide 20" wheels and tires pushed out to the corners of the car. Performance-wise, the Oettinger-tuned Sciorccos offer power outputs of up to 240hp with even more aggressive engine tuning in the works. Of course upgraded brakes and adjustbable suspension help to balance out the extra power while adding to the the car's aggressive stance....

Everyone who is a frequent visitor has seen the new Scirocco pictures on Speedhunters. But like every car that is released nowadays, it has a predecessor. The car wasn't as successful as the Golf Type 1 but it sure had a strong following. Lennart Dijkstra has captured this 80's symbol in this picture. -Jeroen Willemsen Found on Hostyle's World

Check out this promotional video for the VW Scirocco GT24 that was campaigned in the 24h of Nurburgring last weekend. All three of the Scirocco entries in the race performed very well and it looks like this new car is the real deal. We aren't quite sure about the music choice in the video, but the cars sure are awesome.

Things didn't look very good for the pole sitting Manthey Racing Porsche at the green flag of the Nurburgring 24H race. As the green flag fell the car started to belch huges amount of steam and had to immediatly dive for the pits for repairs to its cooling system. Not a great way to start a 24h race. I'm quite impressed they were able to fight back to take the win. Congrats to them!...
