The Slovakiaring's paddock was teeming with car-spotting opportunities over the weekend of the FIA GT3 races, with a packed supercar parking area adjacent to the pits plus the attractions at numerous displays around the track. And what a supercar display there was! Each GT round has been playing a game of who's-got-the-sauciest-cars – Silverstone's Lamborghini Aventador and Paul Ricard's Aston One-77 (and US muscle) for instance, but Slovakia provided that and more. The rarest...

Time for a look at all the parked cars in Reifnitz. It was the place where the manufacturers like Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda had their own stand. Although I'm not sure if I could call it a ‘stand' because they were huge and contained almost every model they produce. I especially liked what Audi did. They had a closed off area where you could grab something to eat or drink and look at cars they rolled onto a stage. This Golf MKI was parked under the Volkswagen arch that crossed the street...

Onto the final part of our Dubshed coverage ! I still can't get over just how big a show this was. The organisers have estimated that over 500 cars turned up (they were expecting half of that) and over 2000 spectators came through the gates. I've got to say the show was a credit to the organisers because even if they got double the expected attendance, everything was still well organised to run ahead. Above the red Leon from the first part of the story shows just why airbags are so practical...

First up in part three of our Dubshed coverage is this Seat Leon Cupra R on anthracite BBS CH wheels. The subdued colour scheme really helps the blue Forge Motorsport silicone hoses and blue air filter pop. The spec list on this car is quite impressive as are the all important numbers : 305BHP and 329 ft/lb MKIV Golf with a Bora front conversion on BBS RS. Audi A4 B7 on airbags. Decked Volkswagen Derby with dished rims sitting under some tidy arches looked very well. Damn low is right. A bit of a...

Picking up where we left off in part one, this Porsche 356 Spyder was stopping people dead in their tracks all day long. I'm unsure if it's an original or a kit car but I'll prepare a closer look at the car in a future post. Who thought brown could ever look so good? Amazing colour and finish on what was one of my favorite cars of the show. Back outside was this Seat Leon on airbags. These cars can actually come with a pretty wild styling kit from the factory so I'm not sure if this...

I never really got the whole Volkswagen / Euro scene for quite some many years. Raised in a family where I was taught the principle of form follows function, these low and slow cars never made a whole lot of sense to me. It was actually during my first visit to a VW orientated show last year (Edition38) that I had my eyes opened for the very first time. It seems pretty obvious now but at the time, I just couldn't grasp the concept of airbags, oversized wheels and hugely expensive interior rebuilds...

Regular Speedhunters will be aware from our preview last week that the Intercontinental Rally Challenge started its season last week with the Monte Carlo Rally. It was a dominant and quite surprising win from Mikko Hirvonen in the all new Ford Fiesta S2000. Hirvonen led from the start from Skoda’s Juho Hanninen. Peugeot followed closely with last year’s winner, Sebastien Ogier (above!) and Stephane Sarrazin and Kris Meeke in hot pursuit. One of the favourites, Jan Kopecky had a dire start...

The legendary Monte Carlo Rally starts today, with a prologue stage in the French Riviera, en-route to Monte Carlo. The ‘Monte’ is one of the longest running motorsport events, dating back to 1911, and is normally part of the World Rally Championship. Due to the ridiculous FIA rule that rally venues need to rotate in and out of the World Championship, the premier class this year is the popular Intercontinental Rally Championship. The 'IRC' started in 2006 with the assistance of...

This is the Škoda Fabia ‘Super 2000’ Rally car. Running to similar regulations to the World and British Touring Cars, the new Super2000 Rally class allows for some variations including wider bodykit and four wheel drive. This regulations will form the basis of the new World Rally Championship from 2011. As Škoda is part of Volkswagen Group (Its not called VAG anymore), legendary rally driver, VW’s Carols Sainz has helped with development. The Škoda team have...
