Sometimes it's really hard to believe that the high tech R32 Skyline GT-R is now over 20 years old. The R32 is just one of several iconic Japanese cars that recently have crossed the 20-year mark. Others include the S13 Silvia and the NA chassis Mazda Roadster. Surely these cars will be the "nostalgics" of generations to come. The car in the photo is the Auto Gallery Yokohama R32, seen at Tsukuba Circuit last year. -Mike Garrett...

While we were in Imola as guests of the BMW WTCC team last month, we shot a film about former multiple Touring Car World Champion, Andy Priaulx which we'll be releasing shortly. He's also been writing a guest blog for Speedhunters about his twin BMW racing weekends at Imola and Road Atlanta, but right now he's in Australia racing at the Bathurst 1000 kms.

It's one of these marque international events that we'll need to Speedhunt one of these years. In the meantime, here's a great vintage video from Bathurst showing the R32 "Godzilla" showing the competition how it's done!

For my next post I'm going to show you a selection of AWD cars from Need for Speed SHIFT. As I know you guys get annoyed and hot-under-the-collar whenever any subject matter gets overplayed on Speedhunters, so I'll start to wrap things up with a wider selection of cars from the game. So let's look first at the R34. As you upgrade the Skyline, it first changes into a bit of a Time Attack style monster before becoming a low line JGTC style racer. Running around 500 hp, it differs from a...

Just found this cool shot of an R32, R33, R34 and last but not least an R35. My choice would be the R33 because I know that particular car. Which one would you choose? -Jeroen Willemsen

Sticking the "GT-R" badge on a car that is not an authentic GT-R will earn you nothing but disrespect. It's just something you don't do, unless your name happens to be Nagata-san! Back in 2005, tired of waiting for Nissan to come up with a replacement for the discontinued R34 GT-R, Smoky from Top Secret took things into his own hands and decided to build his own new-generation GT-R. Between 2002 and 2007 Japanese magazines like Best Car and Holiday Auto were coming up with futuristic...

Mark Berry and Russell Newman are the two-man team that has dominated Australia’s time attack scene. You’ve already seen glimpses of their insane Hi-Octane Racing R34 GT-R weapon in previous posts, and courtesy of Auto Salon Magazine here is a closer look at what it’s packing. Previously campaigning an R32 GT-R, Mark Berry and Russell Newman have conquered numerous racing events all over Australia. The R34 GT-R started off as a standard road going version which Mark Berry purchased...

Would you be willing to part with your car and send it to a shop on the other side of the world? The story gets even better, because the owner of this R34 had never even met the car builder, he only knew him by reputation.... but after some phone conversations, a deal was struck and this R34 was to be shipped across the planet for some very special modifications. The British owner imported the car back in 2003 from Japan and had it shipped to the UK. After some exterior modifications, he wanted to...

The night after the RX-7 annual meeting last week I found myself returning to Daikoku PA for yet another gathering. This time it was something closer to heart as I met up with a few friends of mine, most of them GT-R owners, as well as others with cool and interesting cars. For years now a bunch of us "foreigners" have been religiously meeting up on the second Wednesday of every month, setting up our meetings via the UK GT-R Register forum at GTR.co.uk. Unfortunately being the summer holidays...

I was happy to see that the Garage Saurus GT-R went down well, it is indeed one of the best R's in existence. I've prepared a wallpaper for you guys to enjoy. You know where to go to grab it. - Dino Dalle Carbonare

Following on from my post on the Mine's R35, I thought it would be worth going back in history a little and featuring a slightly older GT-R. The BNR32 is what put Nissan on the supercar map back in 1989, and pretty much fueled the tuning boom in Japan during the 90's. Garage Saurus have been around since the beginning, building some of the most extreme cars the streets of Japan have ever seen. Garage Saurus has proven to be one of the strongest contenders in the drag scene, but at the same...

When Nissan first introduced the original Hakosuka Skyline GT-R in the late '60s , the only body style available was a four-door sedan. Shortly after, the GT-R would be moved the two-door Skyline platform and it would be quite some time (40 years to be exact) until a Skyline GT-R sedan would appear again. In 1998 Autech released a limited production four-door R33 Skyline GT-R, which paid homage to the original Hakosuka sedan. The Autech car featured all of the high tech GT-R items including the ATTESA E-TS AWD system (man, that's a lot of letters) , the RB26 engine, and widened GT-R style body work. Today they are very rare to see, so I was surprised to find this all-original example in Tokyo earlier this year. Until we see the oft-rumored R35 sedan, GT-R nuts with families to haul will have to stick with this... -Mike Garrett...

Well, here's my first blog post for Speedhunters, I should really have started with an introduction but I haven't got around to scanning some of the old photos I want to use for that so I'll start here instead. So in short, my name is Bryn Alban, I'm a keen amateur drifter from Wales, UK and I've been following the drift scene for around 5 years now. My day job is a 3D Vehicle Artist which is how I've gotten to know Rod. I'm currently working at Slightly Mad Studios on...

The first time I ever saw Japanese drifting in person, was at an event called GT Battle, held at Rockingham Circuit, UK in the summer of 2005. After watching a lot of JDM Options and reading any Japanese magazine I could get my hands on, I was pretty excited to see two D1GP icons on European soil. The event was held in preparation for the D1GP that would kick off later that year at Silverstone on the 2 nd of October 2005. In the morning we headed out to the circuit and there I saw the Kei Office...

If you pick up the April issue of the ‘ Classic & Sports Car' magazine in the UK you'll find this 1971 Nissan Skyline KPGC10 that has found its home in the UK -- London, to be precise. It was imported back in 2006, and has been fully restored and rebuilt as a circuit racer with period-correct details. I first encountered this car on the GTR forum in the UK back in 2006. This evening I saw it again but this time on the Japanese Nostalgic Car forum and was amazed again at how good...

We've been looking at Kiwi the Kiwi scene a lot over the past days, and this latest NZ material comes from photographer Joseph Curphey, who sent us some shots from a recent D2NZ practice day Waikaraka Park. D2NZ is basically the amateur arm of the D1NZ series, hosting small practice events complete with instructors for those looking to improve their driving. It seems very similar to Drift Association and Just Drift events held in the US....

As I continue to go through my photos from last Sunday's JCCA New Year Meeting, I'm finding it quite difficult to choose what I want to post. There's just so much good stuff to choose from. Anyways, I'll open with this shot of a GC210 Japan Skyline parked alongside some mini-bikes. Looks like it could be ripped right from the pages of Champ Road, the monthly Japanese magazine dedicated to two and and four-wheeled kyusha and the lifestyle that surrounds them. This reminds me that I should do a Champ Road feature for you guys sometime......

Nissan had a lot going for them at Tokyo Auto Salon this year with all the hype surrounding the Fairlady Z34 and the continued interest in the R35 GT-R. The Skyline has taken a backseat to those new models in attention, but there were still some nice examples carrying the torch for fans of the "original" Skyline GT-R's ,as well as the rear-drive Skyline models....

Tokyo Auto Salon isn't really known a great place to see classic cars. If vintage is your goal, you'd be better off waiting a couple weeks and going to the JCCA New Year Meeting in Odaiba instead. Nonetheless, there are always a handful of modified vintage machines at TAS, and this year's offerings were pretty remarkable. This year's classic car presence was lead primarily by G-Works Magazine, who had several examples in their booth. Let's take a look at some of the vintage machines from Tokyo Auto Salon 2009....
