When I finished shooting the BRZ STI Concept a couple of weeks ago at the STI HQ in Mitaka, I headed upstairs to the STI Gallery to see if there were any cool cars on display. It seemed I had picked the perfect day to have a wander... ...as there was a cool triplet of WRC cars on display. Next to McRae's 1998 "P14 WRC" Prodrive rally car was Petter Solberg's 2006 WR car... ...that was used in the 2007 Rallie Monte-Carlo. The STI staff let me have a nice look around the car and even...

The Autosport show was a great way to remind ourselves just how good rallying was – and still is. Despite troubles behind the scenes, the WRC has kicked off with another classic Monte Carlo rally , and rallying as a sport is still a must-see event. Forget the politics: watch the stages. The main attraction at ASI for rally fans was the British Rally Heroes Display, which showed off half a dozen classics from the last 50 years of the sport from a UK perspective. Ford Escorts continue to be a...

It seems that for many the star of the Tokyo Motor Show has been the GT300 version of the Subaru BRZ. To coincide with the launch of the new race car, Subaru has released this video clip which shows the car in action on the track.

Enjoy!

Subaru has released a couple images of the production-spec BRZ just ahead of the car's debut at this week's Tokyo Motor Show. This should hold us over while we wait for Dino's coverage from the show floor. Overall the car looks very similar to the 86, with a few changes to the front fascia separating it from the Toyota model. Curious to know your thoughts on the 86 vs BRZ choice now that you've seen this. Does this work for you? Will you wait for the STI version? -Mike Garrett...

It seems that by far the most talked about car at the LA Auto Show this year was the BRZ STI Concept in the Subaru booth. While we are just a couple weeks from the debut of the production version at the Tokyo Motor Show, this is our best look yet at the BRZ and a glimpse of what an inevitable STI version might look like....

One of the special cars that will be making an appearance today at the LA Auto Show is Subaru's BRZ Concept - STI. While Subaru are keen to stress that this is a Concept, the 2013 BRZ model is expected to be unveiled in Japan at the end of the month. The BRZ of course, is a departure from Subaru's AWD standard and will use a conventional FR layout. Last week we ran a poll asking our readers whether they preferred the FT86/FR-S or BRZ, with the votes split 60-40. Do you think these latest...

Today Subaru announced plans to campaign the BRZ in Japan's Super GT series. Using the experience gained from racing the Legacy B4 in the GT300 class, the BRZ should be ready to race for the 2012 season. Subaru didn't release any details on the new race car aside from this drawing, but they plan to show more at Tokyo Auto Salon in January. Can't wait to see what this looks like! -Mike Garrett...

As we get closer and closer to the release of the Toyota FT-86/FR-S and the Subaru BRZ, a lot of potential buyers are debating over which of the two cousins they will purchase. We'll have to wait until the final specs and pricing are released for each, but we are curious to know whether you guys are leaning towards the Toyota or Subaru version of the car at this point. As of now, which version of Toyota-Subau FR project would you be more likely to purchase?

The SEMA Show is a huge event. This year is no exception. After a couple of slow years with the recession, business does seem to have picked up as the show floor is now packed with exhibits and the crowds yesterday, traditionally a quieter day, were huge. Different exhibitors use SEMA for different reasons, at one end of the scale, you have the individual who brings their prized proession to the show, all the way through to OEM Manufactures who want to show their latest cars and aftermarket products...

Ever wondered what a Subaru WRX would be like it were powered by a 6-litre LQ4 V8? Well, the owner of the Corvette-powered Civic did, so after he finished his Honda's conversion he turned his attention to his bug-eye WRX. This guy is crazy. Subaru has shown a couple versions of its BRZ Concept, yet they both lacked something important. Bodywork. Our good friend Jon Sibal has taken it to himself to see what the 2013 BRZ might actually look like and put together this rendering. I have to say it looks quite good. Will Subaru's version look the same? I guess we'll find out soon enough. For more make sure you check out Jon's site . -Mike Garrett

Spotted this clip over on Jalopnik and figured it deserved a repost here. Watch as this BMW M5-powered GC8 Impreza slides around with the sounds of high revving V10 music exploding from its pipes. Based on the driving in the clip, the BMW V10 looks to be a natural fit for the old Impreza.

Liked.

Subaru's version of the rear-drive coupe being codeveloped with Toyota finally has a name - the BRZ. In case you were wondering, BRZ stands for "Boxer Rear-drive Zenith" and with a name like that it better be good. Subaru has started to tease the concept new model, which will appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Production is scheduled to start next spring. You can bet we are counting down the days to Frankfurt to see what Subaru has in store for us! -Mike Garrett Subaru BRZ...

The simple mention of the Isle of Man already whets the appetites of gear heads worldwide. Most of the time, we hear about the two-wheeled exploits on that historic course. This time around, it's an Isle of Man tale about four wheels, a US spec 2011 Subaru WRX STI, driven by Mark Higgins. The STI was a standard 305 HP turbocharged boxer engine with added safety mods and a louder exhaust to warn spectators of the on-coming car. The speed limiter was turned off to allow a higher maximum speed.

During Higgin's attack on the 37 mile track, he reached speeds of 162mph, averaged 115mph, and completed the course with a time of 19 minutes 37 seconds.

Now, turn up that volume and enjoy!

Most of you will be familiar with the infamous Isle of Man TT course, a 37.8 mile road course which cuts around the small island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Whilst it's more famous for its motorbike races, recently the four wheel record of the entire course was smashed by former British Rally champion Mark Higgins in a near standard Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The only modifications were the obvious safety features of a rollcage, harnesses and on-board extinguisher system. The car used the production model's engine, gearbox, clutch, brakes etc with only slight modifications to the suspension to prevent the suspension being damaged over the larger jumps on the circuit. The previous record held by the late Tony Pond was an average speed of 100MPH. Higgins managed an incredible average speed of 113MPH around the course on road legal tires.

However, the attempt wasn't without its moments as the above video shows. A sixth gear tank slapper almost lead to Higgins and his Road & Track magazine passenger redecorating someone's living room at an approximate speed of 150MPH. Cool as a breeze, Higgins catches the car, downshifts to fifth and powers on again but not before sharing a joke with his passenger.

Building a car doesn't always have to be about some crazy cross-brand engine swap or insane power mods. The simple fact of actually working on a car is a journey in itself. Marty Mulholland, from Mighty Car Mods, needed to swap over the engine in his old Subaru wagon to a whole new fresher shell and documented the process.

Watching this video makes you want to get in the garage and wrench away at your car doesn't it? Since I watched it, the thought of turbocharging my E30 has constantly been in my thoughts...
