Let's go ahead now and take a second look at Wednesday's action from the Super Lap Battle event at Buttonwillow. As I said in the first post, there's nothing quite like a Time Attack event to cleanse oneself after a week at SEMA....

As you saw in our Super Lap Battle coverage, Tyler McQuarrie set a new course record at Buttonwillow Wednesday in the FXMD NSX.
Here's some in-car footage of the record braking lap, attesting to both the speed of the car - and of course Tyler's skills behind the wheel.

No sooner had I wrapped up my coverage from the SEMA Show when it was time to load up the camera gear and hit the road once more yesterday morning. This time the destination would be another early November tradition for us - the Super Lap Battle Finals at Buttonwillow Raceway....

There's something very calming about attending a time attack event. As with all other motorsport events, there's a certain rhythm to the day's proceedings. The air around the paddock area at Buttonwillow in the early morning was quiet and calm. But you can feel that there's an air of competitiveness brewing. Everyone was waiting for that last session of the day with their eyes transfixed on the FX Motorsport Development NSX and the Sierra Sierra Evo. Here's a 3rd look at Super...

There's nothing like spending a Wednesday watching some of the fastest time attack cars in the United States battle it out for bragging rights.
With this photo of the Evasive Motorsports Evo blasting through the Buttonwillow Esses, let's move on to our second look at the 2010 Super Lap Battle finale....

Turkey, football, and people lining up in the middle of the night to buy cheap electronics.
These are all November traditions for us here in the United States. For us automotive folk, another November tradition is the Super Lap Battle event at Buttonwillow Raceway. ...

2009 was a year of big developments for the American time attack scene. With both the Redline series and Super Lap Battle running events, competitors had plenty of chances to leave their marks this year on race tracks all over the country. We saw the competition get tighter, and the cars getting faster - particularity in the hardcore unlimited class.
Now, here's a quick look back at some of the highlights of 2009 American time attack season....

The 2009 American time attack season is now behind us. Following the Super Lap Battle at Buttonwillow on Wednesday, the Redline Time Attack series wrapped up their season at California Speedway over the weekend. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out to Fontana for myself, as I was up in the Bay Area for the Hellaflush meet. You can expect some Hellaflush coverage later today, but first I'm going to finish my Super Lap coverage from Buttonwillow....

Hey, I thought November was supposed to be the off-season for car events? With SEMA, the VIP Festival, and Wednesday's Super Lap Battle, it's been a busy week of Speedhunting for me - and it's not over yet. Later this afternoon I'll be hitting the road towards NorCal for tomorrow's Hella Flush meet in Milpitas. Before I leave, I thought I'd post some more Buttonwillow Super Lap coverage for you guys....

Every November for the past several years, America's (and the world's) fastest tuner cars have gathered at Buttonwillow Raceway for a one-day battle in the dusty and fragrant Central Valley of California. Upon arriving at the track, I noticed the paddock appeared a little emptier than past years. Nonetheless, all the top players in the game were present and accounted for. Teams like FX Motorsports, Sierra Sierra, Crawford, and AMS were all ready to fight in hopes of claiming the day's fastest time, and just maybe breaking the long standing track record held by NOB Taniguchi and the HKS CT230R....

For those of you who have been waiting to see more "functional" machines on Speedhunters this month, don't worry. Tomorrow is the annual Super Lap Finals at Butonwillow Raceway, and I'll be heading out bright and early to bring you guys the action.
Even better, if you live in California and can find an excuse to get out of work or school for the day, you can head to Buttonwillow tomorrow and see it for yourself!
If not, stay tuned to the site.

I can't wait for the time attack season to get going here in Japan, starting with the Tsukuba Super Lap Battle in early December. For me there is no better event on the calendar, and this year, like back in 2007, the guys from High Octane Racing in Australia will be there with their new Advan-sponsored R34 GT-R. This video shows its first ever track outing at Oran Park. The custom-dry sumped RB30 drivers all four wheels via the 6-speed Holinger transmission. Apparently, the AWD system wasn't working well on the day so it was a bit of a handful, precisely what makes this video so cool to watch.

Hey kids! Early Christmas present... You can now find Tarzan's Time Attack Impreza in our desktops section . And just because I know some of you may want them, sorry, I don't have any high res John Brooks photos of this car. Hit up John or Rod for that! Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah... (BTW I love Adam Sandler's brilliant SNL rendition of the Hannukah song... who agrees with me on this? If you don't know, google it.) -Antonio Alvendia

Team Tarzan’s Tomei Cusco Impreza was one of the highest anticipated cars for Super Street’s 2008 Super Lap Battle. The renowned pair of engine and suspension component companies teamed up to build a car capable of upsetting the lap record Nobuteru Taniguchi set in 2007 with the HKS Hypermax Evo. Although the aim was to conquer California’s Buttonwillow Raceway, the majority of the testing and tuning was all done in Japan. The traditional course configuration for the Super Lap Battle...

They say a week, in politics, is a long time. While I would hesitate to compare myself with the fools and charlatans that infest Parliament (I can only offer comments on the shower here in the UK) a week is also a long time in the SpeedHunters’ world. Today I sit here in the UK, “enjoying” the first real taste of winter with Northerly winds driving the thermometer south towards zero, while cranking out this piece. Last weekend I was at the Port of Long Beach with a flat out crazy...

Before I move on to getting you guys and gals (are there any ladies in here? hello?) a detailed, play by play report on the Red Bull Drifting event, I thought I'd better get on to writing our final wrapup from the Superlap Battle. Remember that?..... Ok let's have a look at some of the results and check out John Brooks' photo styles....

There were a ton of race cars on trailers driving through Highway 5 and the Grapevine to LA last night. It was cool seeing these cars on the back of the trailers, cruising at 70mph on the freeway... little would most people know what these cars are really capable of once they're put on a race track. From the starting grid at Buttonwillow yesterday, I spotted the M-Workz 350Z in line waiting to go out on track. I think this Z33 looks cool! Keep an eye out for an upcoming Speedhunters story on...

These are busy times for me right now... there is much happening in the business and creative world of Need for Speed I have to keep on top of, yet at the same time this Speedhunters project needs continual focus... it's like a eating monster with an endless appetite... the site always needs new stories! So with this in mind, let's get down to business, as I have around 100 emails that need to be answered... then we'll be heading down to the Long Beach docks to check out the setup, and...

This year is going by quickly isn't it? I've had the Superlap Battle on my travel calendar since the start of the year and it's always seemed like something far down the road... so I'm finding it somewhat hard to believe the event has come and gone, and now it's already time to move to our coverage of the Red Bull Drifting World Championship. But before we start to submerge ourselves in this upcoming Long Beach mega-event, we'll try and do our best to communicate to you what...
