After appearing in the '08 Red Bull Drift Championship, and last year's Formula D closer at Irwindale, Norwegian driver Fredric Aasbo is set to return to US competition at FD Long Beach 2010. Fredric will run with the support of a SoCal-based outfit called FSR Motorsports Creations. There's no word on whether he'll be running the full FD schedule this year, but we're looking forward to seeing his smoke monster Supra again in the LBC next month. -Mike Garrett...

After seeing a widebody JZA80 at Fuji Speedway last month for the HKS Premium Day I was instantly reminded of this Abflug - Curve Supra I shot a few years back. To this day it is one of the most extreme body conversions I have seen, along with another mega-wide Abflug JZA80 I snapped years ago. You can always count on the guys at Abflug to shock and come up with unique designs with this particular GT-05 kit taking inspiration from the Supras that used to race in the JGTC championship, now known as...

Uniqueness is sometimes the cause for confusion, and this particular car being built by Auto Bahn out in Ibaraki-ken is the perfect example. I spotted it inside their workshop the other month when I stopped over to check another of their cars out. I thought it looked pretty cool with that nice carbon front diffuser and canards on each side of the bumper. Covering tons of grassroots drift events throughout the year means I have cultivated quite the attraction towards older JDM rides like the JZZ20...

At the beginning of each year, Super GT teams flock to Malaysia to undertake harsh preseason testing at the Sepang Circuit. This, however, is not one of these cars. I hope you’re seated ladies and gentlemen, because what you’re looking at is actually a Malaysian street car, dramatically modified in homage to the steroid-fed racers of Super GT....

Australia would probably be the last place you’d expect to stumble across a Super GT race car, but thanks to some persistent negotiations, Toyota Australia was able to bring over a piece of automotive history: TRD’s infamous GT500 Supra. When I caught wind of it being in the country, the first thing I thought was that it was probably a rolling shell; a ‘dummy’ replica with no running gear used for promotional exercises. I was wrong though, and credit to Toyota Australia for managing to wrestle the Chassis 534N #26 from the grasps of its protective Japanese engineers....

I'll finish up blogging about my recent trip to California with a quick story about the journey from the hotel to the airport this past Monday. The plan was to drop off the NFS Terlingua off at Shelby's LA HQ and take a cab to LAX, but this isn't exactly how things turned out. So here we are parking up the Mustang for another sad good bye. The giant SUV belongs to everyone's favourite Scion stalwart, Chris Rado. Some of you may remember we featured this supercharged 600 hp truck exactly...

Next month's Formula Drift season finale at Irwindale Speedway is shaping up to be quite the event. Besides the chase for the championship, the FD finale will also host overseas drivers like Fredric Aasbo - the Scandinavian star who competed at the Redbull Drift Championship wlast year. Fredric just officially announced his entry for Irwindale, and he'll be back behind the wheel of the Team Japan Auto Supra. Tire and pit support will again come from Falken Tire. Fredric had a nice showing last fall in Long Beach, hopefully he'll be able to do the same at the House of Drift. -Mike Garrett...

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Kazuhiko “Smoky” Nagata for many years now. Nagata-san is of course the founder of the legendary tuning shop, Top Secret. Going beyond that, he is also a bit of a worldwide motorsports celebrity, in fact he is a rather unique example of a motorsports star. Not many people can claim celebrity driver status while having no professional motorsports affiliation as a driver. To understand the mysterious Nagata-san it may be a bit easier after some background....

I've really been enjoying my fellow Speedhunters work from the Bonneville Salt Flats. I would love to go there at least once in my life, but in the meantime I can enjoy all these pictures which we recently got from our friends at Super Street magazine. You may have read yesterday's story about the Dandy team with their Mazda FC -this is the most recent Japanese built car to have hit the salt flats... but it's JUN Auto which probably has built the most Japanese Bonneville cars. Subtlety is something I'm a great fan of. I have always been in the " less is more" school of thought and appreciate any car that follows simple guidelines. Substance is far more important I always say, and the car I have for you here is an example that fits both bills perfectly. Mizota-san of Revolfe has over the years created some of the most powerful machines to hit the wangan and with our theme for this month being Speed, this is one car that deserved to be shown. Built for a customer...

Despite the loss of several major manufacturers, the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show is shaping up to be an interesting one. This is thanks in large part to Toyota, who should have auto journalists swarming over the cars in their booth. Besides the production Lexus LF-A and a possible version of the 086A project, there's word that Toyota will be showing the 2011 Supra at this year's show. According to 7-Tune, the new Supra will likely be a 3.5L V6 mated to a hybrid system like the one used on the new Toyota Crown. Total power is estimated to be around 400hp. As far as the exterior, the car is expected to share looks with the FT-HS Hybrid that was shown at the last Tokyo Motor Show. There hasn't been any info on pricing yet, but it's been said that the car could reach production in 2011. There's even a rumor that there will be a more affordable, non-hybrid version of the car available with less power....

A few hours after I got back to Long Beach, from Pomona and the SO-CAL Speed Shop, I went out with Marc and Eric from Twins Turbo Motorsport to taste some fine local cuisine at their favourite Korean restaurant. The Twins are rather clever, politically minded people, and the conversation is always quite spirited and interesting... So unless you have some debating skills in your arsenal, it's perhaps best to keep the subject on cars! I couldn't help myself though, and got into a lengthy discussion...

Andy at Powervehicles often picks up some pretty crazy looking cars at auctions, or via tuning shops he deals with. This JZA80 Supra is no exception, especially the wild BN Sports Blister kit it has been fitted with. The in your face drift look seems to suit the big Supra quite well, just take a look at how the front and rear fenders have been blistered out. A rear brake cooling ducts have been worked into the rear fenders, but whether these are functional or not is not quite clear. The view from...

If you've been following the global drifting scene, then you should be familiar with Norwegian drifting star Fredric Aasbo, who appeared at last year's Red Bull World Drift Championship in his JZA80 Toyota Supra. Fredric and the Japan Auto team actually liked the American drifting experience so much that they decided to leave the Supra in SoCal for future use, and that meant they needed to put a new car together for use back home in Northern Europe....

I just found these videos on YouTube of the Twins Turbo street Supra build and I had to share. I've been a fan of Twins Turbo ever since they built the fastest FR Time Attack car in North America last year with their RX7 build. Recently they showed off their new Super Unlimited Supra build which also looks to be a ringer, I just can't get enough of these guys' projects!

Here are parts 2 thru 4:

Check out their website at: http://www.twinsturbo.com for more pictures and videos. Maybe buy yourself a dry sump system for your 2JZ while you're there.

You wanted to be the coolest kid on campus --at least for a day. Before our Toyota themed celebrations are finished, I wanted to share these Supras which I handpicked, together with my Speedhunter buddies. The cars are not shown in any particular order, but I do have my personal favorites. One of them is the Ridox build Supra driven by Manubu Orido. Antonio wasn't real pleased with my choice, but hey, what can I do about that!...

Some ideas look really good on paper, it's the real world that causes the problems. Back in 1995 Toyota decided to make a car for the GT500 class of the Japanese GT Championship. They took the JZA80 as the starting point, threw out the stock block twin turbo and installed a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder that had been developed by All American Racing for IMSA. It was much lighter and needed little or no money to be spent. So far so good but then some bright spark said "Let's go to Le Mans!"...
