Though it didn't win the Pokka GT Summer Special at Suzuka, the Dunlop-shod HSV-010 led a good part of the race (on three separate occasions). It was the first time the tyre maker's been out front all season. Qualifying wasn't kind to the CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R, the blue machine would start 11th after having its fourth engine of the season installed over the course of the weekend. Meanwhile, coming off of their first ever win, the Real Racing Honda HSV-010 GT of Kodai Tsukakoshi and Toshihiro...

The weekend of the 700-km event at Suzuka, the "Pokka GT Summer Special" got underway in blistering heat and unrelenting levels of humidity. Clear favourites to win this, the longest race of the season, the ARTA Honda guys were looking for better fortunes than on the season-opener. Having won this race last year, there was confidence at the team of showing well. The pairing (Oshima/Ishiura) were also victorious at Round 3, the Fuji 400km event in May, and other long race on the calendar...

Not sure if you fellow Speedhunters have seen this image before, but it's one of my favourites. After many laps of trying, Andre Lotterer is about to make his move stick on rival Richard Lyons at Round 2 of last year's SUPER GT at Suzuka. In identical cars (save for team preparation), it is fascinating to see the lengths to which these pilots will go to get past. Obviously Lyons is no slouch, and was never going to make it easy for the 2006 (and current) GT500 champ. Lap after lap they circulated...

The much-anticipated arrival of Honda's new challenger at the start of the season - to replace the iconic NSX GT, was as eagerly awaited in SUPER GT as Nissan's GT-R two years before. In pre-season testing at Suzuka the car showed remarkable pace, particularly in the 'twisty bits,' though was conspicuously slower than its rivals on the long main straight (reported to be between 20 and 30km/h off the Nissan and Lexus entries) The five examples of the car scheduled to compete in GTs...

Here's a couple video clips that "Sassy", the owner of the IMSA-styled SA22C RX7 sent to us.
Besides the sights and sounds of the RX7, you can also catch a glimpse of many other Japanese classics running on the famous Suzuka Circuit.
Thanks a lot, Sassy!

Well, we are already halfway through April and the racing season is in full swing no matter which form of motorsport suits your fancy. While we were in Long Beach covering the ALMS race, the Japanese Super GT series took to the track at Suzuka Circuit for it's second race of the 2009 season....

My friends and I just got back from a drive to Mitsuwa, my favorite Japanese market in Torrance CA... While I was there, I began thinking about Japan and how much I miss being there, even though I was just there about four months ago. This being said, I began looking through one of my hard drives, and spotted this photo of RE Amemiya's D1 Street Legal FD3S RX7. This car is a lot more "normal" than the Amemiya D1GP competition FD that's always in magazines and videos. D1 Street Legal...

It's a beautiful sunny day in Tokyo right now - the rain has finally stopped (for a few hours, according to the weather report) but instead of going out to my favorite places in the city, I'm sitting in this dark cubicle in an internet cafe, because I know you all have been waiting to see my Super GT photos. Hopefully you guys like them - I'm doing this for YOU guys, Speedhunters readers! I'll be very honest. Going to a big race event like Super GT while you're in Japan is super...

Had to fill the current lull in Super GT activity with a shot of the GT300 Yunker Power Taisan Porsche. I love this car! This particular shot was taken at this year's Super GT opener at Suzuka. The next Super GT race will be held in a little over two weeks time at Sepang Circuit in Malaysia......

If you are somewhat familiar with Japan, you might know that this time of year is considered the "rainy season". It's not that cold, but sometimes days will pass before the sun comes out. The rain was falling hard at Suzuka Circuit this weekend where the third round of this year's D1 Grand Prix was being held. Of course, a little wetness wouldn't stop the top D1 drivers from pushing their cars to the limit and beyond. One my Flickr friends in Japan, scivi, braved the ugly weather...

In Japan, race queens are much more than just eye candy for race goers. They are a whole phenomena in themselves. There are magazines and photo books dedicated just to these trackside beauties, and there are even race queen figurines that are a perfect match for your scale model car collection. As I have mentioned before, there plenty of photographers who go to events for the sole purpose of covering the race queens. As a result of this, there are fine sites like RaceQueen Photogallery, which as...
