The World Time Attack Challenge winner's trophy is once again headed back to Japan, with Tarzan Yamada's 1:28.8510 flyer enough to clinch the win. Congratulations to Tarzan Yamada, Takizawa-san, Unlimited Works and Voltex for their impressive performance. There was tension in the pitlane as the last Pro Class session got under way, but SSE weren't able to improve on their 1:29.024 laptime. They finished in second place by the narrowest of margins. Taking the last step on the podium is...

Tarzan Yamada and the Cyber Evo/Unlimited Works team have finished Friday's practice in top spot by setting a very quick 1'30"369 time. That's slightly faster than last year's lap of 1'30"587 which yielded them the 2010 victory. It isn't over yet however, Revolution is right behind them in second spot with a 1'30"616 and the Sierra Sierra guys, after an impressively quick diff fix, managed to set the third fastest time of the day, a 1'30"749. This...

It looks like all may not be lost for the D1 Grand Prix drift championship for 2011. Following the controversial split between D1 and its key judges and of course founders, Daijiro Inada and Keiichi Tsuchiya, drift fans the world over were wondering who would could ever be worthy replacements. Well it looks like we know now! For 2011 D1 drivers will be judged by (from left to right) JDM superstar Eiiji "Tarzan" Yamada, Drift Tengoku editor Ryusuke Kawasaki, D1 assistant judge Hisashi Kamimoto...

オーストラリア、シドニー最高!! Sydney Australia was the BEST!! Wednesday Media Day ダウンタウンは初めてでちょっと感動。でもねむかった。 The first event of the trip, right in downtown Sydney. But I am really sleepy today. 自分のウェブサイトの写真をとってます。 I thought I’d just take a photo for my own website. Hi all... well I'm back in New Zealand now after a whirlwind seven days in and around the Sydney area of Australia. The highlight of the trip was of course the Time Attack World Challenge and we were treated to an epic battle between the likes of the Sierra Sierra Evo, the Tomei Cusco Voltex Impreza and the Cyber Evo. I personally feel quite grateful to have been in a position to attend this groundbreaking and ambitious event. But before I get into the details of my time at Eastern Creek Raceway...

Have any of you read "The Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi? He's the world's most famous historical Samurai warrior, who expounded the sword fighting technique of "the single blow" ... Meaning that you kill your opponent with one sword strike. Draw Sword, Strike, Kill. Well, I'm sure that Tarzan Yamada must have some real samurai fighting spirit inside him as he completely decimated the competition this morning! During the first session at the final day of the...

Here's another nicely done clip from Motive DVD featuring the Tomei/Cusco Impreza as it ran at the '08 Buttonwillow Super Lap.
This car of course is one of the machines scheduled to compete in the World Time Attack Challenge this year.

A couple weeks ago I headed down to beautiful Oceanside, California to visit what might be the best known Subaru tuning shop in North America - Crawford Performance. Not only is Crawford big among Subaru enthusiasts around the world, but millions of people have been exposed to their car building work following the Ken Block Gymkhana videos. The story behind the company and what they do is an interesting one, but I'll save that for the next post. For now let's focus on Crawford's unlimited class time attack car. Known as "Tony the Tiger" because of its orange and black livery, this 2008 STI is said to be the fastest new body style Impreza in the world. ...

Sit onboard with Tarzan Yamada as he pilots the Cyber Evo to a 1:42.3 lap time during a testing session at Fuji Speedway back in March. No special effects or music needed...

Since this is the start of an awesome AWD themed month, I figure we would start off with a desktop of Tarzan Yamada driving the Crawford Perfomance STI down the main straight of Buttonwillow Raceway at the first round of this year's Redline Time Attack series. Head to the desktops section to grab your choice of wide screen or standard versions! -Linhbergh Nguyen

A post made by Ben Schaffer on his blog regarding the aero on the Super GT 350Z, got me thinking about the Cyber Evo. I agree both cars are totally different but they are made with the same intention: to go as fast possible. Nowadays, it's not only a matter of pure power but maybe more so about downforce and handling. I wanted to highlight the aero aspect on the Cyber Evo. In the above picture, we can see the Cyber Evo getting ready for the Revspeed Tsukuba Super Battle. The car has undergone...

Hey kids! Early Christmas present... You can now find Tarzan's Time Attack Impreza in our desktops section . And just because I know some of you may want them, sorry, I don't have any high res John Brooks photos of this car. Hit up John or Rod for that! Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah... (BTW I love Adam Sandler's brilliant SNL rendition of the Hannukah song... who agrees with me on this? If you don't know, google it.) -Antonio Alvendia

Team Tarzan’s Tomei Cusco Impreza was one of the highest anticipated cars for Super Street’s 2008 Super Lap Battle. The renowned pair of engine and suspension component companies teamed up to build a car capable of upsetting the lap record Nobuteru Taniguchi set in 2007 with the HKS Hypermax Evo. Although the aim was to conquer California’s Buttonwillow Raceway, the majority of the testing and tuning was all done in Japan. The traditional course configuration for the Super Lap Battle...

This year is going by quickly isn't it? I've had the Superlap Battle on my travel calendar since the start of the year and it's always seemed like something far down the road... so I'm finding it somewhat hard to believe the event has come and gone, and now it's already time to move to our coverage of the Red Bull Drifting World Championship. But before we start to submerge ourselves in this upcoming Long Beach mega-event, we'll try and do our best to communicate to you what...

The crew at Spoon Sports has been really busying getting their new NSX-R race car ready for next month's Macau Grand Prix. After first bringing the car out to the I Heart Honda!! event at Tsukuba Circuit last month, they continued their preparations by taking the NSX to Sportsland Sugo in Miyagi Prefecture yesterday for some testing. Yoshi at Spoon has been keeping me updated on the progress of the car and he sent me some photos taken yesterday during the testing session....

After his success with the Sun Auto's Cyber Evo, 'Tarzan' Yamada has commissioned Cusco to build him a new Time Attack car. This time it's different because now he will campaign this car as Team Tarzan, and he will drive the car himself in the various Time Attack series. Cusco has brought in heavyweights like Tomei and Voltex to help build the car......

Everybody has seen the crazy aero canards on the DTM cars especially in the rear. The only car that comes close in the Japanese Time Attack grid is this Cyber Evo driven by Tarzan Yamada. The canards are made by Voltex, they even test the durability and function in a windtunnel. So these aren't their for show but they actually work and help Tarzan to drive his car to the limit. -Jeroen Willemsen Voltex

June was special, for the first time ever Time Attack legend Eiji 'Tarzan' Yamada visited the UK for the first time to check out Time Attack at Silverstone. I first met him at a Redline Time Attack event in 2006 and earlier this year I managed to get him to agree to visit the UK and check out the scene and cars as part of the Time Attack Series promo efforts. Mr Ito of Do-Luck is a good mate of Yamada so we managed to get him on a plane and over, not only that but we also managed to hook...

The Zero Sports Impreza driven by Tarzan Yamada chases down a CMG Porsche during the 2006 Time Attack/Super Lap final at Buttonwillow. There's something so cool about watching Japanese tuner machines battle it out with Europe's finest sports cars. -Mike Garrett
