Hello Speedhunters and welcome to my Vegas Blog. Life is pretty busy at the moment with the Need for Speed D-Mac 86 taking up all my time back home. These FD events seem to come around pretty quickly. But, what better stress relief after 12 hours on a plane than sitting into a 800hp drift car and ripping up some Azenis 615K’s! The Saturn Sky looked great as usual! Its a credit to the guys at ASD its like they re-paint it between events. It never ceases to amaze me how much work these guys do...

Between Seattle and Vegas, I teamed up with V-LEDs to create a surprise new look with the RX8 for the EA Games crew. The red and blues are themed to coincide with “Hot Pursuit.” There was no better place to debut them than after sun set and long into the night at Las Vegas. The heat and sun can make you a little delirious, it’s important to stay hydrated in the desert. I had also been up late the last few nights. Vegas was the test run, not only for the new lights, but for my new...

There really isn't any place that Matt Powers' car is more at home than at the Las Vegas stop of the Formula D season. The bright neon lights of Sin City really compliment the ready-for-a-night-on-the-town neon and animal print S14. So, point your mouse on over to the desktops section for some Sin City flavor for your desktops! -Linhbergh Speedhunters FD Las Vegas coverage

It was quite the cultural shock driving straight from the remote alien planet of Bonneville to the bright lights of Sin City, Las Vegas, while breathing in tire smoke. Shocking, but worth every last rubbery booger that comes out at the end of the event.... Head on over to the desktops section to grab these two shots from last nights qualifting session. Be sure to tune into the DriftStream to watch today's 32 competition! -Linhbergh

Well... here it is as promised! The first picture of the RTR-X off of the chassis plate on the ground and rolling (with the help of a little man-power). As per my last update, most everything had been fabbed up and there were just a few things that needed to be buttoned up, reinforced, and final welds applied. As you can see the crew at Steen Chassis once again pulled through as promised with exceptional quality. Here you can see the Wilwood hubs are on and allowing our mockup wheels to roll. The...

"Speedhunting, is a verb" - the act of hunting speed. Have you ever wondered who is responsible for the photography, reporting and creativity behind Speedhunters? What its like to be in the action of an FIA GT race? Or a jersey barrier away from Vaughn Gittin JR drifting in Formula Drift? I've turned the lens on the speedhunters that bring you global car culture on the daily. This is a behind the scenes look......

Here's a quick little video clip of the World Racing/Team NFS AWD tC undergoing some testing at Road Atlanta.
What a beast. Can't wait to see it in person again.

The RTR-X build is full-steam ahead. Gary and his son Jayson at Steen Chassis have been working long nights and weekends to keep us on schedule, which at this point is helping us buy some time for the final stretch before SEMA. We need all the extra reserve time we can get for any unforseen issues. At this point, every single day until load-in for SEMA is alloted to complete the car so it can be ready to drive into SEMA. As you can see from this picture a lot of progress has been made on the the...

It is my absolute pleasure to be able to announce the Team Need for Speed D-Mac 86 . This car has consumed my life for the past couple of months and i'm delighted to be finally able to share it with all you Speedhunters on AE86 day. This will be the worlds wildest AE86 and will be and will not only aim to uphold our excellent drift record but also double as a grip machine, but how did all this get started ? Well most of you will know me from wearing the Blue and Teal of Falken Tire... But it's...

Unlimited Class Racing ... what image springs to mind when I mention these words? Older people in the Speedhunters audience will likely think back to the glorious Can Am era; a fearsome class of racing cars from the 60s and early 70s which saw the fastest race cars on the planet governed by next-to-no rules. Can Am has long since been regulated to history, and it's rather unlikely that a race series of the sort will ever surface again. Economic, health and safety considerations have put a halt...

What a crazy couple weeks! For my driver's blog this time, I decided to alter the form a little bit from my recent ones. I liked Rod's recent work with the grip vs. drift blogs. They've made me think about the drift world I came from, what’s going through my head now and where I’m headed. So, I wanted to put out a more subjective piece where I open up a bit more. Here we go! First it was All Star Bash. I’ve driven at all the big annual All Star Bashes, so I guess I’m...

Team Need For Speed - Drift is comprised of Formula Drift drivers: Mad Mike Whiddett and Matt Powers. The two drivers bring a unique perspective on professional drifting and equally unique drift machines. Mike's performance at the Red Bull World Drifting Championships caught my attention as a filmmaker; the note of the quad rotor Mad Bull Mazda FD RX7 is one I won't soon forget. Matt's fourth place finish at Formula D Irwindale 2009 also comes to mind - as I watched him transform from...

Hello again to all the Speedhunters and Need For Speed fans ! After a lot of fighting we have now have achieved our best weekend in FIA GT3 so far. In Paul Ricard we got things more together and finally took a step into the fight for podium finishes. It was a really awesome feeling and I will now tell you the story behind the weekend. When the balaclava goes on it's time to focus, focus. The weekend was hot. Over 30 degrees celsius all the time and that makes your preperations even more important...

A couple weeks ago I headed out to California for a "meeting of the minds" of sorts. Since the build of the car is moving so rapidly from concept to reality, we had to regroup and make sure we were all on the same page. Most importantly, we had to land on a direction of the metal-work details on the body such as trim, drip rails, the custom metal work on the rear, as well as window-mounting options. This proved to be one of the most important meetings yet; the RTR-X plan really evolved...

Twenty odd rather angry GT1 accelerated directly towards me, all fighting for the same piece of tarmac... All that stood between me and them was a waist high piece of armco. So what did I do? I grinned and pressed the trigger on my camera. The result is the above image.... So let's continue on with my comparison of International GT Racing and Professional Drifting... (and yes I know that the term Grip is not used in traditional circuit racing circles) Now there is nothing like a full on race...

I do wonder sometimes if human beings are really wired to deal with the modern convenience of international airline travel. The past 2 weeks has seen me drop in and out of London, Marseille, Vancouver and Seattle as easy as going round to the shops. And when I look back on this whirlwind, transcontinental tour, the whole trip seems like one big impossible dream. However there is photographic evidence to show otherwise. I was indeed shooting at Paul Ricard Circuit two weeks ago, and immediately followed...

I'm back today with another desktop pack from Paul Ricard, this time featuring the two Team Need for Speed cars. Head over to the desktop section to grab the high resolution versions of the above. This one of the #77 car tackling the chicane on the Mistral straight. There is also this shot of the two cars doing battle albeit with a pesky Porsche in the middle. Alongside these is the above of the #76 car during practice ... ... or this one of Edward heading out for another practice session late...

Heat, humidity and our dearest star's warm rays are strange occurrences in the Pacific Northwest. But it's not as strange as seeing Mad Mike's BadBull RX-8 sans-GT wing. The rear wing was giving the car too much grip on the Evergreen Speedway Formula D course, so it was removed. The team also added more rear camber to take anyway a little more grip (which also made the rear wheels fit insanely flush!). The result? A happy, wide-open-throttle'd, smoking Mad Mike and an RX-8 that looks...

Having spent Thursday and Friday becoming accustomed with the the circuit and etiquette at the event, Saturday was my main opportunity to shoot trackside as I was planning on shooting the pits on Sunday. Armed with the Speedhunters canon of doom (aka the Canon 400mm F2.8 L IS USM) and a 1.4x extender I boarded a media shuttle and begin the task of searching the circuit for good photo spots during the GT3 qualifying session. I started with the chicane on the mile long Mistral straight. The blue concept...

I consider myself a pretty lucky guy. I have my dream job where I get to travel and shoot some of the finest motorsport man has to offer. Even in my first few months as a Speedhunter I've been fortunate enough to shoot rallying, drifting, time attack, touring cars, static shows, endurance racing along with getting to visit some very special places. Back in May I got to experience the twenty fours of Nurburgring. Even as I sit in the press centre typing this, the sound of automotive bliss is reverberating...
