I've been shooting time attack events in California for a while now, and at each event I always find myself gravitating towards the cars built by Evasive Motorsports. Part of it is the fact they are usually at the top of their class, but another was their perfect resemblance to the Japanese time attack cars we love.
Needless to say, when Evasive main man Mike Chang asked me to come out and have a look at the shop, I couldn't turn him down....

It's been too long! I miss you guys... sniff sniff. Life has been busy, lets just say that. However, I DID finally get some major progress done on the car in Jan/Feb. Back in January after I finished most of the prep on the body shell, my buddy Colin Jensan came by my shop and schooled me on the ways of MIG welding. I haven't done any welding since high school, and even then, my experience is very limited. Armed with a small Lincoln Weldpak MIG machine I went to town on the chassis stitch...

If you are a follower of the Time attack series, you cannot have failed to notice the be-winged Lotus Elise of Steve Guglielmi. In amongst the myriad of Japanese machinery, the little British sports car has proved more than a match for the huge horsepower Japanese saloons. Winning by a massive 1.5 seconds at Brands Hatch and being no more than a fraction of a second off the top step of the podium in every other round of 2009. Steve was kind enough to give me a few hours of his time and give the low...

Pretty close to being done the cage and all the chassis prep! Took this pic last weekend. I'll post up some real pictures soon, lost my camera charger so this iPhone picture will have to do... - Carl Jarrett

When I recently found out that the owner of this dedicated track S15 Silvia manages to lap Tsukuba in 55-sec I knew I had to dedicate a small post to this incredible car. Suzuki-san, the owner, had his time attack project built by Scorch Racing and Ennepetal with a goal of achieving the fastest possible amateur time around the small Ibaraki-ken circuit. For a privateer to achieve times dedicated tuning shops employing professional drivers would boast about, is simply mind-boggling. And the base of...

After the great feedback I got from the Battle Evome coverage a few weeks back I just knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to head to Tsukuba circuit again. This time the event was organized by Omega Oil, which holds free practice sessions at the little circuit in Ibaraki-ken throughout the year. Omega customers are invited to bring their cars out for the day for some fun and practice but I didn't realize how cool this day would turn out to be until I drove into the paddock and saw just...

We can talk all day about numbers and sub-minute laps around Tsukuba. But actually seeing how fast a fast lap looks like from the driver's seat really puts things into perspective. This is Hiro behind the wheel of his Exceed Moat 07B S14 at Tsukuba managing a 58"540 lap and hitting a top speed of 212 km/h on the back straight. Check out the cool Racepack IQ3 data logger display, I'm pretty sure I saw 1.7 G in one of the corners!

Some of you were wondering why a lot of the cars/drivers from the Battle Evome time attack events don't participate in the yearly Tsukuba Super Lap Battle. Seeing the times a lot of these cars managed to post had me asking myself the exact same thing, the best example being Suzuki-san, owner of the Scorch S15 above who has lapped in a best time of 55.5 seconds. Like he has announced on his blog he is now shooting for that extra half a second to break the 54-second barrier! That is Cyber Evo/Tarzan...

We cover a lot of grassroots drift events here on Speedhuntres.com but what about those that prefer to grip around a track? Well don't worry because a couple of weeks ago I attended a BE-Circuit event at Tsukuba Circuit where I got to see, after quite a long time, some proper time attack action. There is nothing amateur about the cars and drivers that participate at this event. Sure most of them are simple owners out to have some fun, but their competitive nature has pushed them to create some...

I cover the Irish Time Attack series for the Irish car magazine Modified Motors, so I thought I would introduce SpeedHunters readers to the drivers and cars of this very competitive championship. After a couple of sporadic efforts in previous years, Time Attack really got going in Ireland in 2008, when the Mondello Park race circuit took over the running of series, providing a formal class structure, technical regulations and a full six-round calendar. The series developed quickly through 2008, had a great year in 2009 and is now gearing up for its third season....

The 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon left me feeling very positive, as the tuning industry seems to be slowly making a recovery after a troubled period. The show however, much like last year, was missing one of the biggest players in the Japanese tuning world, HKS. They had a tiny stand showcasing a few of their latest exhaust systems, but nothing like what we have been used to seeing at TAS from them. There is a reason behind this, and it took me all of ten minutes to realize why yesterday as I strolled through...

My friend Derrick down in Pheonix sent this to me the other day, Tony Szirka - Evo owner, driver, and founder of UMS Tuning in Mesa AZ is no stranger to DSM tuning. And his experience and passion has culminated in this potent time attack weapon. Keep an eye out for a detailed feature from Derrick as he plans on taking a closer look in between track days as well as a feature on UMS Tuning down in Pheonix. Special thanks to Charles Siritho for this awesome shot! - Carl Jarrett

My friend Derrick down in Pheonix wrote to me a couple months ago and said I had to feature this car here on SpeedHunters, and I have to admit, at first I was a bit skeptical, I'm not a huge FF fan, but I am a big fan of hardcore track biased cars, especially ones with a good personal story attached to them, and this is definitely one of those. The car started out as a JDM street car, a CX model, which had what, 70hp stock? Phil Robles, the owner of the car had been a race fan for a long time...

If you live in Australia, or happen to be planning a trip there next year, mark your calendars for May 21st and May 22nd, 2010. That's when the World Time Attack Challenge will be held at Eastern Creek International Raceway in Sydney, organized by the creators of the Australian Superlap events and sponsored by Yokohama Tire. The competitor list already includes some of Japan's best time attack cars, and it will surely grow as the event draws closer.
So, which cars can you expect to see?...

2009 was a year of big developments for the American time attack scene. With both the Redline series and Super Lap Battle running events, competitors had plenty of chances to leave their marks this year on race tracks all over the country. We saw the competition get tighter, and the cars getting faster - particularity in the hardcore unlimited class.
Now, here's a quick look back at some of the highlights of 2009 American time attack season....

1.9? Why 1.9? Well I haven't got as much done as I'd like to have, but am still making progress, and am making progress in the planning stages as well. I've been busy prepping the car for a LOT of work in the coming months. Its pretty boring stuff at this stage, so don't say I didn't warn you. I spent almost 2 days crouched inside this beast removing that damn sound deadening. I used chunks of dry ice for the first pass (looked like an old high-school dance in my shop with the...

OK time now to wrap up the coverage from the 2009 Tsukuba Super Lap Battle by taking another look through the paddock and some of the cars that help make the event what it is. There is no doubting that Time Attack is the epitome of the tuning industry, it helps push manufacturers and shops to advance parts and car development to extremes, creating wild machines like the Cyber Evo above. Like I mentioned in Part 1 back in the mid nineties if your car managed to lap Tsukuba in under a minute you had...

I'm really surprised that a proper Super Lap Battle championship has yet to be organized in Japan. An effort was made back in the day with the T1-GP but it never really took off. I've been thinking about this for a while as I'm a little sad that we all have to wait one year to see our favorite cars blast around Tsukuba, because there is no doubt about it, this is one of the best events of the year. A national series would not only see teams participate at different tracks, like the new...

I have probably never covered as much drifting as over this past year. It has been a real blast seeing pro drivers battle it out in D1-GP or up and coming young stars shine at more grassroots events like MSC, not to mention the craziness that is the Drift Matsuri, but I have well and truly missed more conventional kinds of motorsport. I am of course talking about grip. I'm not going to deny it, this is where my passion lies, so you can understand why I have been eagerly awaiting for what is in...

Should I even add words? This amazing all carbon Revolution FD has been seen doing some laps at the recent RE-Wars round 4 at Tsukuba. I can't wait for Dino's coverage of the Super Lap Battle at the same circuit. Will this FD take the crown or will some of the other contenders like the Mspeed R34 (my favorite) be faster? -Jeroen Willemsen
