New Zealand once again delivers the goods. This shot was taken by Joseph Curphey at a recent Hampton Downs drift day.

After seeing a widebody JZA80 at Fuji Speedway last month for the HKS Premium Day I was instantly reminded of this Abflug - Curve Supra I shot a few years back. To this day it is one of the most extreme body conversions I have seen, along with another mega-wide Abflug JZA80 I snapped years ago. You can always count on the guys at Abflug to shock and come up with unique designs with this particular GT-05 kit taking inspiration from the Supras that used to race in the JGTC championship, now known as...

I'm not quite sure why, but I felt strangely drawn to this KP6 Toyota Starlet during the recent Omega Oil track day in Tsukuba. How can you not like its 70s/80s old-school feel, enhanced with body modifications that include massive N2-like overfenders and a set of vintage wheels. The interior was kept pretty simple to start off with so the owner obviously didn't feel the need to go crazy and remove too much trim... ...the stock dash and instrument binnacle remaining, but sporting a custom...

Reader Anthony Magat from the Philippines sent us a couple photos of his two classic JDM machines for Readers Month. Retro Japanese cars, and Toyotas in general are huge in the Phillipines. In fact, it seems like the place might be home to the largest population of of old school Toyota heads in the world....

Hi there Speedhunters! I found this car on my last trip to Japan. I haven’t seen many tuned Soarers on Speedhunters in a while so hopefully you will appreciate this one......

Hello Speedhunters. James here, a 25 year old ordinary dude who is engineer from Sydney. I first purchased this car for roughly 2 years now heading into 3 years. As many may know it is Toyota JZX100 Mark II Tourer V. It is my JDM car of choice in this era we live in....

I’ve been apart of Chicago’s car culture for around five years now. I do my part of staffing local drift days and putting together meets. The one thing the city is rich with is car crews. Crews like the famous Risky Devil to the forefathers of Chicago drifting, the Grip Gamblers, but this article is about a few members from two younger crews… Tipsy Turtle and Ooo Dang....

This project began to take shape back in 2005 when Pedro Carvalho, who always had a soft spot for the old Corolla TwinCam, bought an old red hachiroku. The car was now on its 7th owner... ...It was looking tired and had been poorly maintained with some evidence of a front collision. He didn’t drive the car a lot, in fact disassembly began the day he bought it. The body was fixed and straightened and in 2007 it was finally painted in Toyota’s Super White. In 2008 the now absolutely mint...

Hi Speedhunters! My name is Ying and this is the tale of my 1990 Toyota Starlet GT EP82 from Melbourne, Australia.
My story begins late one night in 2004 on an almost empty freeway. I saw some headlights approaching incredibly fast. As it flew by, I caught a glimpse of the two letters that would shape the next few years of my life. A glowing “GT” badge fixed in the middle of the tailgate. I drove back home intrigued. What the hell was that?
A few hours later, I discovered this little car was called a Starlet GT. The car weighed 830kg and was powered by a 1.3 litre turbo engine. Huh, starlets come in turbo models?
Whilst there is a small turbo starlet community in Australia they aren’t a common sight on Melbourne roads.
Having never driven one, sat in one, or known anyone that had owned one, I decided to buy one....

Hi Speedhunters! My name is Steven Yankeh and I live in Maple Valley, Washington. First of all, I just wanted to give my compliments to the Speedhunters team for putting together what is definitely one of the freshest car culture sites on the web. After seeing all of the Silvias being posted as of late, I got to wondering when we'd be seeing some TE27 posts. I know there aren't nearly as many TE27's around as there are Silvia's, but given that fact I felt that it would make a post...

Hi Speedhunters, and thank you for giving me a chance to talk about my beloved Celica on your website. I am French, my name is Nicolas and I am 26 years old. I fell in love with the Celica ST205 as a young boy playing Sega Rally in arcade game centers, and later on my Sega Saturn! My first car was an AT200 Celica, cheap and affordable as a first daily driver, but I always yearned an ST205!...

Natural progression or a fluke? You can't open a ‘pic of the day thread' on a random forum without getting confronted with cars that have a killer stance. Normally you would see cars like a Impreza or Evo and of course the S-chassis cars. But we can't forget the little guys, like this Toyota Yaris or Vitz as it is known in other countries. This particular car has its roots in Indonesia and is rolling round town on a set of 20" Weds Kranze Bazreia wheels. There isn't a lot...

Time to shift our TAS coverage to Toyota, one manufacturer that has won back the respect of car enthusiasts since the announcement of the FT-86 in fall last year. To everyone's surprise Toyota's new tuning outfit, G's, created a turbocharged version of the new hachiroku , leaving most stunned at just how damn hot this car can look dressed up with some tasty carbon parts. The G Sports Concept gets a more chiseled front bumper with a carbon fiber contoured central air damn to help convey...

At the end of TAS on friday I quickly headed to the Sun-eishobo stand, the publishers of Option magazine, as well as tons of other motoring related titles. I had to pick up a Hyper Rev book/catalogue for an Impreza-crazy friend back home in Italy and as I went to pay I noticed these two postcards on the counter. They are ads for a new magazine that will be launched at the end of the month called Hachiroku Damashii which in English would translate as "The Soul of Hachiroku." The illustration...

After spending some time in Ebisu circuit the other day shooting some drift cars I realized the lack of drift events in this "off-season" is getting to me. I always complain I cover too much drifting during the year but I'm experiencing some rubber-smoke withdrawal symptoms. So I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the other GX71 I spotted a Nikko at the end of November. This old-school Chaser was parked next to the Cresta in the paddock and simply looked sensational slammed...

If you've ever read Hot Rod Magazine in recent years, you'll know there aren't too many Toyotas to be found in its pages. However, a few years ago Hot Rod featured this wild Toyota Corona as part of its "Dare to be Different" theme. For the magazine to feature a Toyota means it must be something special, and indeed this car is.
Built by Mitch Allread of Newhall, California, what was once a basic '68 Corona sedan is now a street-going circle track racer that also happens to stay true to its Toyota roots....

At the beginning of each year, Super GT teams flock to Malaysia to undertake harsh preseason testing at the Sepang Circuit. This, however, is not one of these cars. I hope you’re seated ladies and gentlemen, because what you’re looking at is actually a Malaysian street car, dramatically modified in homage to the steroid-fed racers of Super GT....

Australia would probably be the last place you’d expect to stumble across a Super GT race car, but thanks to some persistent negotiations, Toyota Australia was able to bring over a piece of automotive history: TRD’s infamous GT500 Supra. When I caught wind of it being in the country, the first thing I thought was that it was probably a rolling shell; a ‘dummy’ replica with no running gear used for promotional exercises. I was wrong though, and credit to Toyota Australia for managing to wrestle the Chassis 534N #26 from the grasps of its protective Japanese engineers....

The collapse of the global auto market has not been good for motorsport around the world - and Japan took a particular hard hit with Honda and Toyota dropping out of F1 and Subaru stopping its WRC program. Nonetheless, when it comes to Japan's domestic motorsports scene, the Super GT Series had a very strong season in 2009. With new car debuts, tight competition, and new champions, '09 was a big year for Super GT.
Let's take a quick look at the season shall we?...
