There is just no denying that many top Japanese tuners have fully turned their attention to ECO cars. The Honda Insight and Toyota Prius are gaining in popularity so the tuners have been quick to hop on this trend. Aimgain has set out to personalize the Toyota Prius with a full workout including the exterior, interior, wheels and suspension. Aimgain went the familiar VIP route for which they are famous for. The car has been dropped using a complete adjustable suspension system and not with the familiar...

On my way up to the Drift Matsuri on Friday I stopped over at Nikko circuit as I heard there was a drift track-day going on, organized in collaboration with T&E. I'm so glad I did take the little detour as I got to see some fantastic cars, total grassroots stuff being driven hard around the track. One car that grabbed my attention was this unmolested GX71 Cresta Super Lucent slammed onto some sexy vintage JDM wheels. The whole body has been left stock, the 80's looks enough to make this...

I've posted quite a few Honda compacts and vans over the past couple weeks, so I figured it was time to show some Toyota love. In this case we have a JDM Toyota Vitz (aka Yaris) modified in a European style. This Euro style seems to getting more popular in Japan, with owners applying VW and Audi style modifications to their domestic cars. In this case the Vitz has some subtle body mods and is dropped on 17x8 and 17x8.5 RH ZW1 wheels with 195/40/17 tires.
The result is a unique combination of Japanese and European automotive tastes.

Some of you had a ‘problem' with the amount of camber on my latest feature . So here is another take on a similar level, this time on a JZX100. The car is just as low but doesn't have the camber. The wheels seems to be a set of Vienna's Noble in black; the contrast works very well with the red exterior. -Jeroen Willemsen

I can remember way back, I always followed a website called Teamrice.org after it was featured in a edition of the HCI magazine. They always showcased amazing looking cars and had a video that accompanied each feature. I always loved that site until it went offline. But thankfully this was followed up by an affiliate site called DOHCresearch.com and after checking it again not too long ago I came across some fine automobiles from Hawaii. I'm still amazed at the quality of the builds they have...

If you were wondering what video I was talking about in my Retrospective about Taniguchi, this is it, shot by a couple of friends of his that really struggled to keep up with him!

As you are reading this I'll likely be making my way up to Monterey for the weekend's American LeMans race at Laguna Seca. In the meantime - here's some more JCCS photos to enjoy! Up above we can see a few of the Hakosuka Skylines at the event, including a two-door wearing US military tags from Okinawa (evidenced by the "Y" on the number plate). What better souvenir to bring back from your time in Japan than a certified legend on wheels?...

Alright let's jump right into more coverage from the the Fifth Annual Japanese Classic Car Show in Irvine. Up above, you can catch a glimpse of a small sampling of the Datsun 510's that made it out. Whether you are into period correct restos, or more contemporary tuning, there were enough "five and dimes" at JCCS to to fit any taste....

After so many rumors I think our prayers have been heard, at least at the design studio of Toyota in France. They designed this successor of the Corolla AE86 that will be debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show. Luckily for us Dino will be covering this show so I'm sure he will get us all the details surrounding this car. I do know that it will be powered by a 2.0 liter boxer engine that has been developed by Subaru and that it will be rear wheel driven. The engine has been placed as far back as possible...

Before 2005, there wasn't much of "Japanese classic car scene" in the United States. Sure there were Datsun and Toyota owners groups, plus the few vintage cars that showed up to events like HIN or the Nisei Showoff, but there wasn't a gathering point for fans of classic Japanese machines. It wasn't until the folks at Katy's Nest decided it was time for an event dedicated only to vintage Japanese cars that the J-classics got their rightful place in the spotlight. That first JCCS at the Queen Mary in Long Beach turned out to be a huge success, and in the five years since, the event has become a Southern California tradition....

The fifth annual Japanese Classic Car Show is now in the books, and what a show it was. I thought I'd throw up a few teaser shots to hold you guys over until I can organize all my photos from today's show (there are a lot of them this time!)....

The other day we got an email from our buddy Ernie Manasala at NOS Energy Drink. Seeing how it's BMW month, Ernie wanted to share a couple photos of some BMW's built by his older brother Mike at E-Shift Performance in New Jersey. As you'll note from the opening shot, these aren't quite your typical "Euro" Bimmers......

Every year in the UK, Japanese car enthusiasts get together for the massive Japanese Auto Extravaganza, better known as JAE. The 2009 edition of JAE was held this weekend at Wicksteed Park in Northhampton.
Photographer Rich Sams was kind enough to send us some photos from the event....

Here's another 1JZ-powered E36, this one built by several years ago by Impact Magic in Osaka, Japan. It's not as extreme as some of the builds out there today, but I remember being blown away when I saw this car in Option Magazine back then. With a twin turbo inline six, I guess you can consider it a homebuilt predecessor to the current 335i.
Besides this Toyota-powered 318is, you might also remember the black E36 that these guys built with a Honda F20C under the hood.

We've covered the hidden gem that is the Caribbean motorsports scene a couple times here on Speedhunters, and each time we're even more impressed with the crazy machines people are running down there. This latest batch of photos was shot by Jason Joaquin at the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship held on August 30th at Bushy Park in Barbados....

A lot of people have asked me about the history and story about this car. To some, it’s just an old Corolla that’s not worth more than a few hundred dollars. To those that know and are fans of the Hachi Roku, they understand and appreciate the efforts that go into resurrecting them, building them and most importantly – driving them. Some have speculated that this car was “too showy”, but it was truly designed and meant to be driven. It has seen it’s fair share...

Let's start with my contribution to the official AE86 day celebration. I wasn't really into Toyota but after working together with Antonio that has changed. So for this feature I knew I had to cover the best AE86 that I could find. Luckily for me I found one and it gets better, because this car was located in Holland. After I saw the owner, Mike Nieuwstraten, posting on the Driftworks forum telling he wanted to refurbish his Hayashi's I contacted him immediately and soon after that a...

So another year comes and goes and still the magic 10 minute barrier at Pikes Peak remains. Nobuhiro Tajima in his 884 bhp, 2.7-litre turbo V6 powered Suzuki SX4 set a time of 10 min 15 seconds to take overall victory this past weekend, but fell short of his 2007 record time of 10:01.408. Although you need perfect weather conditions to break records at Pikes Peak, Tajima now seems to be his own best competition, and hasn't been able to replicate his previous year's performances. Although...

I have no idea who made this, but it's an impressive mash-up of vintage Japanese wheels (many of which I can't even identify).
How cool would it be to have something like this in wall size for your garage, house, or apartment?
Spotted in the always poppin' "Dope Sh*tzzz!" thread on Clubroadster.net.

I was just flipping through Youtube, to find something interesting to post about the Goodwood Festival of speed, and found this crazy video from the 2007 event. It's of Rod Millen's 1000 bhp Toyota Tacoma Pikes Peak special flying up the hill climb... sheesh.... this car is insane!...
