I love the EK9 Civic Type R. It's one of my absolute and all-time favourite hatchbacks. There was a time here in Ireland not so long ago when the country was filled with the sound of B16B. Unfortunately, with the recession and rising insurance premiums, the first generation Civic Type R appears to be slowly vanishing from our roads. Imagine my delight when arriving at a drift practice day earlier this year to find Neil Thompson and his CTR in attendance as a spectator. Here's a quick breakdown...

The love hate relationship that we have with cars often leads us to do strange things. Take, for example, Australian enthusiast Jing, who has taken two bites of the modifying apple. This once blue Integra Type R was a worked street car but, having grown bored of it, Jing decided to sell it off. However a few years ago the itch returned, so he bought it back and embarked on transforming it into a dedicated circuit racer. When Jing bought back his old Integra, he started off by stripping it to a bare...

With Honda officially confirming that production in Japan of the K20 engine will cease, Honda enthusiasts will be wondering what the future has in store for them, particularly in terms of the venerable Type R. A glimmer of hope has come from Mugen Euro, who have unveiled a new take on the FN2 Civic Type R by stroking it to 2.2 litres. Last year 20 Mugen-tweaked CTRs were released in the UK, although no specific announcements have been made regarding this year's version which has 30% more power...

My last Honda feature for the month is once again, a Sportcar Motion time attack car. This time, it's a 1996 Civic Type R that competes in the street class and is driven by a lady, Morgan Jade. One of the most important aspects of a time attack car is its engine. And this CTR does not cut any corners with its K20 power plant. The internals have been built up with Skunk2 Stage 2 camshafts, a set of Skunk2 Pro Series valve springs, a set of Skunk2 Pro Series retainers, ACL Race bearings, a micro...

Just about a year ago, we featured the Sportcar Motion time attack Integra Type R and since then it has gone through a bit of change. Looking at the car from the front will give you a big hint at one of the many changes to the car. Hint: Front mounted Intercooler. The USDM K24 engine with a K20 head has now received a bit of boost with the help of a Kraftwerks rotrex supercharger. The previous all that motor setup produced 305 horsepower and 231 ft-lbs of torque. Now, with the supercharger, it produces...

This week I got an invitation to take a look at the Rising Sun Performance shop. They specialize in Hondas and had several vehicles in their shop. I was greeted by the DC5 Integra you see in the opening shot. For you US readers a familiar car but for us Europeans it's a bit more special. Because we never got them through the official route so all the DC5s you see in Europe are imported. When I entered the building it looked a lot bigger than the outside led me to believe. The entrance is on the...

Honda's new CR-Z has been met with mixed reactions since its release earlier this year. One one hand it's a fine reincarnation of the original fun-loving CRX, but it's eco-friendly hybrid engine doesn't quite get the enthusiast blood pumping. Apparently Honda is looking to change that. Word is that starting late next year, Honda will produce non-hybrid versions of the CR-Z powered by 1.6 liter turbocharged four cylinder engines. Autocar UK reports that two versions of the turbo CR-Z will be available, including a Type R model that makes 200 horsepower. While past Type R models were known for their high-winding NA powerplants, the idea of a turbocharged non-hybrid CR-Z is something to get excited about. What do you think? -Mike Garrett...

Tucked away close to the German - French border in a sleepy little village called Biltzheim in France is a little known racetrack called l'Anneau du Rhin. It's wild track with all sorts of sections - long straights, second, third, fourth gear corners and a tight chicane if the need arises. Speed Industries considers this pretty much their home track, and as a result chose to open up the 2010 trackday season right here. The team had gotten to the track the night before, what you see here are...

On my way back from a certain photoshoot I spotted this yellow EK Type R that has been imported either from Japan or the UK because the steering wheel was on the ‘wrong' side. It was cool to see this yellow car in between all the other dull looking cars. I didn't got a chance to shoot anymore because it's hard to handle your camera and the steering wheel at the same time, haha. -Jeroen Willemsen

Not too many of us would consider an EP3 Civic Type R as a competitive option in a Time Attack series, considering the likely opposition of Lancer Evolution's, Impreza's, Skyline GT-R's etc. With 'just' two litres of normally aspirated power going to the front wheels, the EP3 would already be at a disadvantage to the more powerful four wheel drive competitors. Unfortunately for this years Pro Class competitors in the Irish Time Attack series at Mondello Park, Stone Racing is planning...

This little rocket is the Honda Civic Type R – R3 Rally car. Based upon the European Civic hatchback, this rally version has been developed by Honda Europe’s Customer racing partner, JAS Motorsport. The project showcases JAS’ talents outside of the WTCC and Endurance Racing. The car is built to new 'R3' class regs, which allows it to compete in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Its has also had success in National Rally campaigns including the British, Dutch, Italian...

There are a lot of differences between the Euro spec Honda's and the US versions. I recognize the car in the picture as a Honda Accord, but I know that the car is called Acura TSX in the US. I also know that 'we' got the Type S in Holland but I'm not sure what version this is, if it's a Type R the owner must have imported the car from Japan. It could also just be a badge, who knows. I have always loved the clean look of the Accord especially when it's rocking green Volk TE37...

Due to the fact that it's expensive or not sold where you live, chances are you probably aren't in a position to own the Mugen Civic RR which is based on the popular FD2 Civic Type R. However, you might be able to afford this handsome new wall print that Mugen has released though. Not only does it have detailed cut-away artwork of the car, it even includes a special aluminum picture frame. Like most Mugen products, it isn't cheap at roughly $380USD. You can bet the quality is there though. It's also quite large at about 33" wide.Hey If you don't feel like buying the real painting at least you can enjoy the JPEG right?...

When I went to the Feel's track meet at Tsukuba last week, I didn't go just to cover the soukoukai alone. I also went to check out the new FD2 Civic Type R demo car built by Feel's. Having seen Feel's work in the past, I had high expectations for this car. I'm proud to say that my expectations were more than met after having an up close look at the car and seeing it put through its paces on the circuit......
