A nice view of the recent JDM All Stars event at Silverstone through the eye of Al Clark.

Plenty of BMW's here to stay on theme as well...

Enjoy!

Every year in the UK, Japanese car enthusiasts get together for the massive Japanese Auto Extravaganza, better known as JAE. The 2009 edition of JAE was held this weekend at Wicksteed Park in Northhampton. Photographer Rich Sams was kind enough to send us some photos from the event....

Here's another bit of cinematic action from the JDM All Stars event at Wembley Stadium - this one presented by JDM All Stars itself.

Lots of cool cars here, and I really like the use of a camera car in some of the shots.

Enjoy!

A lot of nice car films coming out lately eh? Here's a nicely done piece by Stephen Brooks from the recent JDM Allstars drift event at Wembley Stadium.

Love that big-winged Levin on Work Equips!

For my final installment from Wembley we are going behind the scenes looking at the set up and execution of the event. The build actually started on the Monday and a call from JDM Allstars inviting me down to have a look at the planned track was too good a opportunity to turn down, as its a fairly local event for me i joined the enormous car park surrounding London better known as the M25 and went down to see what was in store. Team Japspeed drivers Steve Biagioni and Shane Lynch were already on...

Bright and early Sunday morning i arrived back at JDM Wembley for the main event and if the previous days qualifying session was anything to go by this was going to be the event of the season so far. A few of the cars had sprouted new decals and appendages in preparation for the days competition, after a fantastic qualifying performance Brad (lightning) Mcqueen's new bumper sticker was still intact...for how long it would remain that way was was yet to be seen.. ..as was Peter Barbers "soft...

In 2008 JDM Allstars made history by hosting the first ever drift event in London, in 2009 they were back to do things bigger and better. Shooting a new track always makes me a little apprehensive as you never really know what to expect, however all fears disappeared as soon as i saw the venue, the round was to be held in one of Wembley's immaculate car parks so smooth grippy tarmac and a fast and flowing track all with Wembley stadium as a back drop and 50 of the best drivers in Europe, defiantly...

Santa Pod was real busy over the weekend, Ross has already brought you the latest EDC action from Saturday and I made the trek round the M25 and M1 early Sunday morning to have a look at this year's Retro Show. It was Editor Rod's idea to send me as this sort of event, get back to your car enthusiast past, he commanded. To be truthful, I wasn't sure about this or what to expect when I got there. I suspect that had he been there it would have been a very different article but the diversity...

Ah yes, as you've seen throughout the month here on Speedhunters, we are pretty excited for the new season of motorsport around the world. In keeping with that theme, we just came across these shots taken at a preseason drift practice day at England's Santa Pod Raceway thanks to James, who was there shooting trackside. From the pics, it looks like there was a nice variety of cars out there, including a few pros from the European drift scene....

When we went on the very first Speedhunters trip to the UK in April of 2008, I was excited to attend an EDC drift event. Thanks to the generosity of our hosts, EDC's own Andy Barnes and Glenn Horncastle, the European Drift Championship Round 1 event at the famous Donington Park motor racing circuit was very fun and exciting! However, there was one particular car I didn't get to see in person... and as it turns out, it was the car I wanted to see in person the most! In my opinion, Chris Parry...

Erg I seem to be in the grips of permanent jet lag. Every day this week, I've woken up at 02:00 AM on the dot...Bleck..... However, this does allow me to get some blogging done on Speedhunters, which I suppose is good for you lot, our cherished readers..... hey, so I thought I'd start out my Autosport Show coverage by talking about the journey from London to Birmingham. This was an event in itself hahaha. I travelled up to the show with Andy Barnes, one of the founders of the European Drift...

Clash production has just released an excellent hd video compilation of the Richard Clark Motorsport Impreza time attack car from the UK. You might remember that we also did our own car tour video on this 850hp monster earlier this year. The car, which is driven by Ollie Clark had a dominant season in 2008 with four wins as well as the season championship in the Pro Class of the UK TIme Attack series. Man, I would LOVE to see this car make the trip to Japan to run at Tsukuba and see how it does against Japan's best. For now, enjoy this high energy video set to the beats of some old school Chemical Brothers.

With less than a month to go until the first ever Red Bull World Drift Championship in Long Beach, the identities of the international drivers on the roster is continuing to be finalized. The latest drivers to be announced are from the European Drift Championship and include '08 series champion Ben Broke Smith in his JZX81 Toyota Chaser as well as '08 runner-up Tim Marshall in his Chevy V8-powered R33 Skyline. Both of the cars have already left the UK on their voyage to California where they will be supported and hosted by HKS USA....

The UK Time Attack series wrapped up its eventful 2008 season this past weekend at Snetterton Race Circuit and the event would determine the final season standings. In what was seemingly typical UK weather, the day got started under foggy, damp conditions but by the end the event day it appears that conditions were pretty pleasant. Lee Chung was there shooting the event and he has again allowed us to use his photos to share some of the action. Judging by this opening shot, I'd say that Snetterton looks like a pretty scenic course, and a great setting for some fall time time attack action....

The last weekend in August saw a unique event take place in the UK. Over 1000 Subaru owners took part in a massive convoy to break a world record in Honour of the World Rally Champion, the late, Colin McRae. With the full support of the McRae family and Prodrive, the convoy started in McRae's hometown, Lanark, Scotland, travelling south down to Banbury, England. The home of Prodrive. At its peak, the convoy stretched 30 miles!!! Fittingly, the convoy was led by Colin's father, Jimmy, who...

Here we have another big event from the UK, the Japanese Auto Extravaganza (JAE) which was last weekend held on the grassy fields at Mersea Island. By the way, I was just noticing that It seems like almost all car meetings in the UK are held on the grass for some reason. Maybe a lack of parking lots or "car parks"? Interesting. Anyways, the JAE event is held over the course of two days and gathers hundreds of Japanese cars of all makes and their owners for a weekend of celebrating all things four-wheeled and Japanese. Looks like there was everything from classics, to drift cars, to "tuner" style cars as well as plenty of machines from the EDC and UK Time Attack Series....

There a few things better than spending a weekend hanging out with fellow enthusiasts, talking about cars, and just enjoying the hobby in general. This is exactly what happened last weekend at the meet that was hosted by our friends at Retro Scene Magazine in the UK. The UK has a thriving classic car scene, and I must say that it looks quite different from anything I have seen in the states. In the US everyone is sort of divided into their own "scenes" and there is little interaction between them. The UK "retro" scene is much different, and at the meet you could find everything from vintage air and water-cooled VW's, to classic Japanese cars, to UK market Fords, and even classic American cars. That is the most impressive thing to me about this meet, people with all sorts of cars coming together to celebrate the love of vintage machinery....

It's time to finish up our week-long look at the cars of the various international drift series as we examine some of the cars from the European Drift Championship. Before working on Speedhunters, I had only a vague knowledge of the EDC, but I have been learning more and more about the series and its cars over the past few months and have been quite impressed with what I have seen. While you won't find quite the variety of cars that you see in the US Formula D series, the EDC has plenty of top quality cars and they seem to be getting better and better......

This weekend it was EDC time again as Europe's best drifters headed to Santa Pod Raceway in England for the fourth round of this year's series. Besides the all of the EDC regulars, the roster also included Team Orange's Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka making an appearance in their second round of EDC competition after an impressive performance last month at Silverstone. In addition, this round also saw Adam Richardson, the former champion of the D1 New Zealand series making his EDC debut in his A31 Nissan Cefiro. The makeshift course at Santa Pod makes for an interesting contrast to some of the more traditional circuits that are seen on the EDC schedule and throughout the event there would be some very exciting action with the competitor's cars getting extremely close to each other during the tandem matches. Of course the event would not be without its casualties either, as you saw by Rod's post about Paz's AE86......

There is no doubt regarding the popularity of drifting these days and there's no shortage of websites devoted to providing photographic coverage of drift events from around the world. One of our most liked and respected sites in this field is Doristars.com, a site which has been providing high quality photos of the UK drift scene since 2001. Starting with the goal of providing a photographic history of drifting in the UK and expanding the following of the sport to a larger audience, Doristars now has nearly 10,000 photos in their collection. Doristars content that spans the course of seven years and includes everything from early UK grassroots events to the latest action in the EDC and elsewhere. While looking through the Doristars galleries, you can watch the history UK drifting unfold before your eyes......
