Does a role model always need to be a car? Just like the Swede, Peter Bolnert in Rod's retrospective on the IMSA Audi 90 , Coen Donkers also was a fan of a certain Audi race car... As you probably have guessed by looking at the pictures, he build himself a replica of the famous Audi Sport Quattro. Coen bought the car in a damaged condition so he took the opportunity to dismantle and replace all the damaged parts with OEM ones.... Coen happend to run a Audi parts shop in Veghel, Holland. So he...

Well, our VW-Audi month has pretty much come to an end, but there's one last Volkswagen that I want to share - and I think you'll agree that it's worth the wait. Last month at a local VW event here in Central California, there was one particular car that had a constant crowd of people around it. It wasn't a tedious restoration, a traditional Cal-Looker, or a fully built race car. Nope, it was this homebuilt "Hood Ride" oval window Beetle that was drawing all the attention. The owner had driven the car up from SoCal and was super excited to show off all the crazy stuff he has done to his car....

We couldn’t possibly have a VW Group month without featuring one of the most important cars of all time, the Audi Ur-Quattro. The Ur-Quattro made its debut at the Geneva show in 1980, on sale to the European public a year later. Based on the cheaper Audi 80 coupe, visually, the Quattro had more aggressive styling with dramatic flared arches, deeper front bumper/spoiler and a taller rear deck spoiler. The ‘Original’ Quattro was the first car to feature the ‘quattro’ four...

Having been a Speedhunter follower since day one, I thought a VW feature month was an ideal opportunity to show you guys the MarkV GTI that myself and some close friends built and have been racing Dubai, UAE. After some email banter, Rod invited me to put a guest blog together tracking my racing activities, so here we are... Most, if not all of you, will have no idea who I am, let alone know that there is a pretty killer race series happening in Dubai. To kill the first question off my name is Phil...

I'll be honest and tell you straight away, I never knew that Volkswagen made a car called the Derby..... But it seems that the car in the picture is called just that. From what I can gather, VW called the saloon version of the Polo the Derby.... but they dropped the name in 1984. This car reminded me in some ways of a Japanese build car with its wide arches and wheels. The custom made diffuser and centre exhaust hint at its capacities....

We are fast approaching the end of our VW-Audi Group month on Speedhunters and before we move on, I wanted to post some photos Kevve shot of a pair of lightly modified Audi A4's. One is the white B8 chassis sedan you see up above......

Just imagine that you're a racing driver. On the weekends, you drive some of the most top notch Porsches all over the world, and at all the hottest tracks in the world. You've driven the likes of Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Spa-Francorchamps, Nürburgring, Laguna Seca, Sebring, Fuji Speedway, and Monaco in your racing career. But after a weekend of living at one hundred miles an hour, what car do you go home to? You need a car that is luxurious, smooth, classy, and has a air of high speed...

As we wind down our Volkswagen Group features I thought it would be a good idea to pay a homage to Audi's winged warriors; their modern DTM race cars The modern era of DTM was relaunched in 2000 and is comprised of some of the most extreme looking race cars on the planet. The first Audi efforts in the DTM were from the privateer team Abt Sportsline with a stretched wheelbase TT. They managed to take the 2002 Championship with Laurent Aïello driving. If you study the image closely you'll...

While browsing through Kevve's photos, one of the cars that drew some interest was this Mk5 Golf 5-door. On the outside, the car looks great. It's dropped low on an RRAS air ride system and has a set of 18" Golf 6 replica wheels that nicely fill the fenders. Besides the suspension, wheels, and a bit of light body work, the car remains a stock 1.6L Golf capable of sipping fuel on the way to work and back. There wasn't quite enough "meat" to do a full feature on this car, so we figured just sharing this one photo would do. This month we've been seeing a lot of VW's that some might label "all show and no go", so I'm curious to hear what you guys think about that. Are stock-motored cars bad? Is it OK if they don't go for the "race car" look? Or does it even matter at all? ...

Most of us have some place of work we need to be at every single day of the week. This daily ritual normally involves some kind of commute through automotive or human traffic, a life at a business with your co-workers, eating similar kinds of food at familar places and then another commute through the hordes to your chosen place of residence. For most people, this pattern is relatively unchanging from month to month, year to year. I personally find it a bit of a challenge to maintain a zest for life...

One of the most visible, if not successful touring cars of the last decade is the SEAT Leon S2000 race car. Surpassed only by the BMW 320Si, the SEAT has been the choice of many drivers and teams in National and World Touring Car Championships. The SEAT Leon Cupra is a 5 door hatchback based loosely on the Golf 'A5' platform and available in Europe and parts of South America. This is the second generation of the Leon and is regarded as one of the better hot-hatches in the European marketplace...

Can you handle four minutes of a GSXR-powered rear-drive VW Polo shredding it's little tires into oblivion? Find out by watching this video clip.

I tried to find some more video of this crazy little VW on the open road, but apparently its primary purpose is spinning donuts...

Matte colors are always a point of discussion, you like it or you do not. At Worthersee you'll find a lot of matte colored cars. I bet the owner of this Corrado has something to do with the Army. If you were wondering what the 'scoop' is doing in his front grill, if I say the car has 500hp, does that say enough? Enjoy this last part of Worthersee tour 2009! This matte black fits this A3 Sportback very well! The high gloss mirror caps gives the finishing touch! Matte black, white, green...

Is "sexy" a fitting word to describe a Volkswagen? There have been a lot of cool VW's made over the years, but the closest Volkswagen ever got to a proper sports car was when they introduced the Karmann Ghia so long ago. More recently, there's been another VW that's stood above others with it's sleek styling and potent engine choices - the Corrado. Even today, these rare coupes are loved by both VW fans and by car enthusiasts in general. I remember in my pre-driving teenage years there used to be a guy in my town who rolled around in a dropped VR6 Corrado and I thought that thing was one of the coolest looking and sounding cars around. As I dug through Kevve's photo archive looking for cars to write about this month, I spotted this early model Corrado, which is one of the most complete watercooled VW street builds I've seen yet....

There haven't been a lot of post about diorama's or model cars lately, but I feel that they are an important part of our community. So when I came across this diorama made by Wilco Machiels, I had to post them up on Speedhunters. Another nice detail is of course the VW's that are placed inside these diorama's. Like most car enthusiasts, you start to build model cars and quickly realize that you suck at it.... But there's always the exception and that is Wilco... he started at...

Worthersee is definitely the place to be when you're looking for GTI's, RS, R, VR6, G's, and other special models of Volkswagen or Audi. You can find every VAG model here, and even better, you can find every model modified! This owner made a 1000km trip to Worthersee, from the south of France.... But with this modified RS6 it went pretty fast I think. Here's the official Volkswagen stand being constructed... One of the many full parking lots at a local hotel. A common sight in Velden...

As you saw during Kevve's post yesterday, the Worthersee event is a huge one among the VW and Audi fans in Europe. In fact, it's big enough that Volkswagen itself has decided to display a pair of new concept cars at the event - the Golf GTI and Polo "Wörthersee '09" editions. It's quite a good idea really. What better place to build some hype for your cars than a big gathering of your most loyal enthusiasts?...

Since we are looking at Volkswagen this month, I figured it'd be cool to take a look back at an event I went to in the spring of 2008 - the Street VW's Jamboree in Odaiba, Tokyo. Before this show, I'd never experienced a Japanese VW event and I was excited to see what I'd find there. Since the Japanese are known for taking their automotive hobby quite seriously, it's no surprise that the show was full of high quality VW's that could easily rival those from Southern California or anywhere else in the world. ...

End of May is the time of the year for the annual VAG Worthersee event. Year after year, this event takes place in the town of Velden, Austria next to the beautifull Worthersee lake. Along with the great weather, the huge lake and loads of VAG cars make this the top gathering of the year for the VAG-lovers from all across Europe. In general, loads of people start to arrive in Velden the week before the actual event starts. Alongside the lake there are numerous places for many meet & greets for several VAG clubs and forums. ...

Hot on the heels of our Scirocco GT24 post last week, Volkswagen have announced the new 2.0i TSI 265hp 'R' version of the Scirocco for the European market. As with all Volkswagen 'R' products it is presented in their 'Racing' Blue seen on the Golf R32 and GT24 race car. Visually, the car is similar to the GT24 with deeper front bumper and larger air intakes, compared to the standard version. A new gloss black grille with 'R' Insignia sits between the aggressive headlamps...
