What's better than having one Golf MKI GTI? Two of course. Tim Verbeek, who owns the white Golf we saw earlier, also has this black example in his garage. While the white Golf was more of a restoration project, this is meant to be a cool fun toy for the weekend. The exterior features deep black paint with some chrome accents. The door handles have also been polished. Instead of the red strip on the original GTI grill, Tim has replaced it with a chrome piece. But maybe even more interesting is...

The European car scene has been evolving quickly in Australia. In particular, VW enthusiasts have been coming out of the woodwork thanks to new forum communities such as VWGolf.net.au . One regular on that forum goes by the alias 10D, and this is his gorgeous black-on-black Scirocco R. There are a variety of different modifying styles within the Euro car communities. While many prefer the slammed and flush style, it wasn't 10D's cup of tea. What he wanted was something more introverted. This...

I recently asked some of my friends what they thought was the most iconic car in history, and perhaps unsurprisingly, many of them answered with the Volkswagen Golf MKI GTI. Maybe I asked the wrong people, because all of them are VW minded and drive similar cars like this one! But the Golf MKI GTI is certainly an iconic car in its own right. This car was one of the first hot hatches and is continuing to gain popularity as a project car. However, despite its large production numbers, finding an unmolested...

An important aspect of any self respecting motoring enthusiast's life should involve having your views challenged on a regular basis. After all it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing right? But it's only by having our opinions challenged that we can grow as connoisseurs of automotive culture and further expand our knowledge and taste. This is the second time I've been in the presence of this MKII Golf and truth be told, I'm still not sure of what to make of it....

One of the more peculiar aspects to working on Speedhunters is the sheer variety of stories we come across. From writing detailed stories about a specific F1 chassis and the success it enjoyed to a static show where performance is usually pretty far down the list of importance can be a bit of mind melter at times. However, it's this amount of variety that makes the job all worth while. It's very rare that two days of a Speedhunter's are the same - unless shooting a multi-day event but...

While the Artz sleepers that we've been looking at recently have somewhat tame power figures, the same cannot be said about this machine: the TH2RS, just an ordinary VW Transporter.... running 800hp and 663 pound feet of torque that is! Built by Berlin tuning firm TH Automotive, it features the drivetrain from a late model 911 complete with 9ff tuned turbo engine. Madness!
Check the video to see Porsche racing legend Walter Röhrl flogging the beast.

You may have read Ross' recent coverage from the Drift Allstars finale at Wembley but you may not have been aware that Wembley on the same day also hosted the first ever Hellaflush event in the UK. Running alongside the traditional static show that accompanies the Drift Allstars series, the inaugural Hellaflush UK event saw a relatively strong showing of cars. The influence the Hellaflush movement has had on the global modified car scene cannot be denied, regardless if you like or dislike the...

I wanted to start part two of the IAA Frankfurt Motorshow coverage with this Jaguar C-X16. I really liked the design and the lines of the car. This was definitively the car of the show for me. The wheels look like propellers from a plane and filled the arches perfectly. How can you not like a rear end like this? I wonder how much Jaguar is going to change this car before it will hit the dealers. Lamborghini had three cars on their stand and this Gallardo LP570-4 Supertrofeo Stradala was the main...

Last week I was able to get myself a new camera. After shooting with Rod's Canon 5D at the recent 24hrs GT3 events I knew I needed to upgrade. So I got myself the latest Canon 60D and I wanted to familiarize myself with it before I head off to the Frankfurt Motor Show. So yesterday I went to the Parkstad VAG Event to get my first shots with the new camera. One thing I noticed when I entered the parking lot in front of the Roda JC football club stadium where the event was held was this sticker...

I'll continue part two of the VW Fanatics show coverage with this gorgeous MKI. It belongs to Ron Huijzer and I have featured it here before but I have now had the chance to get a real close look and capture many of the details that I missed before. This Jetta belongs to Oliver Verheij who is part of the organization and also shoots for Performance VW magazine. I'll have a full spotlight on this car because it features some amazing parts inside and out. These Dual Solex intakes are part of...

During my visit to the MIVW show I was invited to visit the VW Fanatics show . The setup is much smaller but the cars in attendance have a very high build quality. I selected several cars for spotlights but first it is time for a general overview of the event itself. The MKIII convertible above came all the way from France. The owner organizes the VW Days in France and is also responsible for the new Ferdinand clothing line. There was a great mix of cars that ranged from this orange MKI to... .....

The recipe for the Meguiars BBQ was simple - Cool cars, cool people, sunshine and of course a BBQ. What better way of spending a lazy Sunday afternoon than chilling out with your mates with some stunning automotive eye candy to look at. Since my first visit to a Stanceworks meet, I have become a big fan of the ultra slammed Euro look. One of the first cars i saw was this clean MKII on air, the owner reckoned it needed to be cleaned before I took some photos ... Ehm, how clean is clean? The Golf was...

As much as the Wörthersee Tour is about the cars, the atmosphere of the event is a big drawcard for people every year. For a lot of people it is their holiday and what better way to spend it than with like-minded people. In this post I wanted to concentrate a bit more on the enthusiasts that attend the show rather than the cars. Here is a look at the main street in Reifnitz. I'm actually blocking the traffic behind me to get this shot, but no one seemed to mind as long as I was taking photos...

Time for a look at all the parked cars in Reifnitz. It was the place where the manufacturers like Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda had their own stand. Although I'm not sure if I could call it a ‘stand' because they were huge and contained almost every model they produce. I especially liked what Audi did. They had a closed off area where you could grab something to eat or drink and look at cars they rolled onto a stage. This Golf MKI was parked under the Volkswagen arch that crossed the street...

After looking through the pictures I took at the recent Wörthersee event there is only one word that springs to mind: epic! I didn't even know where to start so I thought I'll do it in a chronological way and throw in some extras. This will be my most extensive coverage of an event ever on Speedhunters so get ready for a VAG overdose in the coming days. After an 11 hour drive on the German Autobahn I crossed the border into Austria. The mountain tops were still covered in snow. The spots...

Back in part one we looked at the cool cars that were on display around the 2011 BHP show. But one of the major attractions to the show is the track. If a car is on display in the show there is a good chance you will see it taken trackside for a damn good thrashing. Lydden Hill is one of my favorite UK tracks and not just because I have moved to the area and it's now my local. It's a one mile ribbon of undulating tarmac in the Kent countryside set in a natural bowl, a challenging track for...

Every year Lydden Hill circuit hosts the BHP Show. As one of the biggest modified car shows in Kent, the show always boasts an exceptional mix of cars both on show and on the track. With such a great show held just ten minutes from my house it would be wrong not to bring you the coolest stuff this show has to offer. The BHP Show attracts visitors from all over the country so getting in can involve a bit of queuing. To avoid this I performed my normal trick of getting there at 6am to watch various...

Onto the final part of our Dubshed coverage ! I still can't get over just how big a show this was. The organisers have estimated that over 500 cars turned up (they were expecting half of that) and over 2000 spectators came through the gates. I've got to say the show was a credit to the organisers because even if they got double the expected attendance, everything was still well organised to run ahead. Above the red Leon from the first part of the story shows just why airbags are so practical...

First up in part three of our Dubshed coverage is this Seat Leon Cupra R on anthracite BBS CH wheels. The subdued colour scheme really helps the blue Forge Motorsport silicone hoses and blue air filter pop. The spec list on this car is quite impressive as are the all important numbers : 305BHP and 329 ft/lb MKIV Golf with a Bora front conversion on BBS RS. Audi A4 B7 on airbags. Decked Volkswagen Derby with dished rims sitting under some tidy arches looked very well. Damn low is right. A bit of a...

Picking up where we left off in part one, this Porsche 356 Spyder was stopping people dead in their tracks all day long. I'm unsure if it's an original or a kit car but I'll prepare a closer look at the car in a future post. Who thought brown could ever look so good? Amazing colour and finish on what was one of my favorite cars of the show. Back outside was this Seat Leon on airbags. These cars can actually come with a pretty wild styling kit from the factory so I'm not sure if this...
