Some of you guys may have heard the news today that Shaun Carlson passed away over the weekend. Shaun was the owner of NuFormz Racing and was a pioneer in both drag racing and later in drifting while working with Samuel Hubinette. Shaun will be sorely missed by everyone in the community and it won't be the same having Formula D events without him. Here's sending our best to wishes to all of Shaun's family and friends from everyone at Speedhunters. -Mike Garrett...

Just got this note in from the Twins Turbo crew:

"Guys, just a quick note. The Viper project we have been working on for the last year is up and running. Shane Tecklenburg has been on the DynaPack with the car all day and we are looking good to go. Results so far are 950 WHP and 806 TQ at 4 psi of boost."

We'll be following the car's progress at the Silver State Classic (they are entering the 1 mile event) with interest!

Hubinette: " Heyyy... what's up guys! So... you got an extra racing suit that fits me? " It's been a while since people have seen me post up here on Speedhunters; I've been on a much needed vacation - traveling, relaxing, and working on other projects. Anyway, I received a shocking phone call this evening from one of the guys I do business with at Mopar. Apparently, due to unfavorable financial issues, Mopar has been forced to withdraw from their sponsorship and support of Samuel...

This is one of those car videos that you just have to watch - a GT3 Viper and a GT3 997 dodging traffic as they battle their way around the Nürburgring. I imagine it'd be pretty scaring cruising down the ring in your mild-mannered Euro hatch when you see these two coming up behind you...

Thanks to the Twins Turbo guys for the link!

Twins Turbo Motorsports builds bad ass stuff day in and day out and this Dodge Viper is no exception. This car, when it is finished, will be beyond bad ass. The owner of this car has owned nine other Vipers before this one in every imaginable configuration. When Twins Turbo was tasked to build this car, they were told to dream up the meanest, baddest street Viper imaginable --and to get it done. This Viper is getting a complete redo from head to toe for the fact that the Twins Turbo built V10 will...

The 2008 SEMA show is fast approaching, and as the big show draws closer, builders are starting to show off this year's project cars. The new Dodge Challenger will certainly be one of the most popular platforms at this year's show and a number of tuners have already shown their SEMA Challengers. The latest player is Chrysler itself who just unveiled their Dodge Challenger SRT10 Concept. As the name suggests, the Challenger has been outfitted with the 600hp 8.4L V10 from the Dodge Viper and becomes that latest in a long line of Mopars to be stuffed with the big ten-banger over the years....

With most people's attention focused on the rivalry between the Corvette and the GT-R over which can lap the Nurburgring faster, it kind of comes as a surprise to see Chrysler jumping right into it with the new Viper ACR. According to Motor Trend, the ACR has lapped the track in a record braking 7:22.1. As expected, the barely-street legal ACR is certainly not the most refined car around, but the sheer brutality seen in the video makes even the Corvette ZR1 look cushy. Nothing high tech, just the spectacle of man harnessing brute power to do battle with the most challenging race track in the world.

The 24Hours of Spa-Francorchamps was just insane. Our resident sports car pro, John Brooks , will be posting up a more complete event report very soon, but for now I just thought you guys might like to see this moment I captured on pit lane. The Spa 24H was such an awesome experience. Prior to attending this race, I admittedly wasn't the biggest fan of this type of racing - after all, drifting changed my life. Don't get me wrong... I always thought these 24 hour races like LeMans and Spa...

Right now, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Frankfurt Germany, with the air conditioning turned up so cold I think my laptop might have icicles forming on it soon - just the way I like it! Walking through the airport in Frankfurt, I saw quite a few people who sort of look like Samuel Hubinette! After all, he looks very European (obviously - he's from Sweden!), even though the car he drives in Formula D competition is straight up American muscle. So to keep within the theme of all the drifting...

By now you must have seen my fellow Speedhunter Mike Garrett's posting on " The Cars of the D1 Grand Prix ." I thought I'd continue this theme, with photos of the cars in the Formula Drift Championship series. Here are the Top 16 cars (in order, based on the rankings on the Formula D website) in Formula Drift, as well as some other cars that I just thought were interesting! Starting with car number one, we can't forget Tanner Foust and his AEM/Rockstar Z33 350Z (above). He won...

Samuel Hubinette is back in front of our cameras showing us around his 2008 Formula Drift competition machine: a supercharged 748bhp Dodge Viper SRT10. This is a continuation of our ongoing exploration of the convergence of drifting culture and American muscle cars....
