Before I started my job as a full time Speedhunter, I was a regular reader of the site. Looking back, I was pretty ignorant towards many of the varying aspects of car culture. I would often just skip past things without any consideration, searching only for those stories that appealed to me and my tastes. Since coming on-board though, I've had every one of my opinions and viewpoints challenged on a daily basis. I've attended shows and events I never would have even considered previously and...

For his first video of 2012, Mr. Brooks has put together a short video feature of Jamie McToldridge's opinion splitting 'Zero-Lip' Golf. We spotlighted the G60 powered car last year at the Players Show in Essex, UK. Afterwards, you had a lot to say about the car but have any of your opinions changed since?

Thus far we've shown you AP's carbon-bodied turbo Lotus along with his 650hp Golf sleeper . Judging by those two rather extreme street cars, it's not surprising that his family runaround has an equally twisted personality. Gone is its 1.4 litre motor and front-wheel drive transmission; in its place is a turbo six-cylinder and AWD. AP's Golf wagon started life as a front-wheel drive 1.4L TSI, the type of car that's perfect for ferrying the family around. All of the original badging...

What's better than having one Golf MKI GTI? Two of course. Tim Verbeek, who owns the white Golf we saw earlier, also has this black example in his garage. While the white Golf was more of a restoration project, this is meant to be a cool fun toy for the weekend. The exterior features deep black paint with some chrome accents. The door handles have also been polished. Instead of the red strip on the original GTI grill, Tim has replaced it with a chrome piece. But maybe even more interesting is...

I recently asked some of my friends what they thought was the most iconic car in history, and perhaps unsurprisingly, many of them answered with the Volkswagen Golf MKI GTI. Maybe I asked the wrong people, because all of them are VW minded and drive similar cars like this one! But the Golf MKI GTI is certainly an iconic car in its own right. This car was one of the first hot hatches and is continuing to gain popularity as a project car. However, despite its large production numbers, finding an unmolested...

Yawn. Not another Golf right? Indeed, looking at the car above I'd understand if you felt it lacked the shock value to be on Speedhunters. So I'll let the facts do the talking. 650HP. 3.6litre conversion. All-wheel drive. 0-100 in 3.2 seconds. A 10.8 quarter mile.
Do I have your attention now? ...

The VW scene is known for its style and exuberant culture which surrounds it. We all know of the odd sleeper which lurks amongst them but up until this year's Edition38, I'd never really seen a heavily performance orientated example. Thanks to J-Tech Automotive, I need to search no more as their rather impeccable MKII Golf was more than I could have ever asked for. I still love the style aspect of the VW scene but it is refreshing to see a really well built and dedicated track car based on...

An important aspect of any self respecting motoring enthusiast's life should involve having your views challenged on a regular basis. After all it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing right? But it's only by having our opinions challenged that we can grow as connoisseurs of automotive culture and further expand our knowledge and taste. This is the second time I've been in the presence of this MKII Golf and truth be told, I'm still not sure of what to make of it....

You may have read Ross' recent coverage from the Drift Allstars finale at Wembley but you may not have been aware that Wembley on the same day also hosted the first ever Hellaflush event in the UK. Running alongside the traditional static show that accompanies the Drift Allstars series, the inaugural Hellaflush UK event saw a relatively strong showing of cars. The influence the Hellaflush movement has had on the global modified car scene cannot be denied, regardless if you like or dislike the...

Since we are taking a look at sleepers this month, I thought I'd go ahead and post this clip of a 500hp Porsche 993-powered Volkswagen Bus running laps at Spa Francorchamps.
When it comes to sleepers, I don't think it gets better than passing Porsche GT3s and Aston Martins in a 1962 VW Bus.

Over the weekend I got an email from Rod Chong with a link showing some cool Volksrod builds out of New England. The only difference between these and normal Volksrods is that these aren't real cars, but 1/10 scale RC creations....

While visiting the VW Fanatics show I wanted to focus a bit more on the cars that had full engine rebuilds. I spotted a group of cars that looked fairly similar exterior wise but all of them had something special under the hood. The cars belonged to a group of friends that are part of a team called Saugergroup . They call Osnabruck in Germany their home and have built their cars as road going hillclimb cars. I'll have a spotlight on all three cars but I wanted to start with this Volkswagen Typ53...

I've spotlighted some pretty exotic machinery from my time in Monterey, but here's something a little different. I came across this customized Volkswagen Type 147 at the Concours d'LeMons and thought you guys might get a kick out of this rare VW....

One weekend you are shooting GT3 race cars on one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world and the next weekend you a doing a leisurely stroll in between the best Volkswagens in Europe. I guess that is the life a Speedhunter lives. But you won't hear me complaining, not at all. I really had to adjust to the pace after a race filled weekend in Belgium. Once I got to meet some of my motoring friends it was time to get the camera out. M.I.V.W is the event to go to in Holland when you have...

Here is our last look at the show we know as the Wörthersee Tour before we start showing you some of the Spotlights from the event. I'll start with this VW Polo that has been built in a typical German fashion. A flashy color, low ride height, small wheels and a chromed engine bay. How about this Audi 50 that greatly resembles the VW Polo. They were even made on the same assembly line as the Polo. I really liked the overall appearance and polished moon discs. I loved the Corvette wheels on...

After a good night's rest at the hotel, I headed to Reifnitz, a small town located on the other side of the Wörthersee lake. This is where the actual event is held. The village has several access roads and one main street. The streets are quickly filled with almost every thinkable model Volkswagen has ever produced. After I found a parking spot I got my camera out and started shooting. In this part I'll concentrate on the cars that roamed the streets, while the next will focus on the...

Let's quickly start with part 2 of the coverage at the Wörthersee Tour . At the first day I was still wandering around the Shell gas station because the cars simply kept coming! This Golf V was extremely good at hardparking at the gas station. I have never seen rims going so far into the wheel well. The Bentley wheels looked gorgeous all chromed out. Again the people just showed u,p got their seats out and grabbed something to drink as they enjoyed the cars rolling by. There weren't...

There's not a lot more that can be said about Stephen Brooks' work that hasn't been said before. I've always been and remain to be a huge fan of his work. He has recently started putting together these short videos which serve as a sort of mini-feature on whatever car has the fortune to be in front of his lens. These two Beetles are part of the Low N' Slow Club in the United Kingdom and have been static dropped. You just have to respect that sort of commitment when lowering a car to such an extent without the option to raise it up at the flick of a switch.

I know I've been harping on alot recently about how sometimes style over function is okay and how it's nice to relax the presence of a bunch of good looking cars and appreciate the aesthetics. But of course I'm going to completely contradict myself now by showing you this rather cool and performance orientated Volkswagen Vento. Sitting in a shaved engine bay lies this R32 (Golf not Skyline) sourced 3.2 litre twenty four valve engine with individual throttle bodies. Stripped interior with...

Before I catch up with a couple of spotlights from Time Attack Series, Modified Live and this Early Edition event, I'm going to take one last look at the Edition38 arranged event. However for this final piece of event coverage I'm going to take a look at the overflow area of the Early Edition show. The beauty of this overflow area is these were just regular attendees of the show, parking up their every day road cars before walking to the show. I'm sure that this immaculate 3 Series made...
