During my time as a Speedhunter I've learnt one thing: that the people from Scandinavia are truly mental when it comes to building cars. Take this Golf project for example, which is not only mind-blowing, but also executed flawlessly. First you take a discarded Golf MKIII and start tearing it apart. When you're left with a bare shell it's time to test fit some of the parts. The owner opted to go wide-body. Then it's time to start fabricating. As you can see there is not much left...

In light of our look at street cars and sleepers this month, Speedhunters reader Marcus Norberg sent us a tip on a rather unique Volvo C70 he found on Garaget.org....

Some cars have that X-Factor. They carry an aura of excitement that sets the heart racing and the blood pumping on sight or sound. Others have the impact of a beige curtain, Functional but far from exciting. The Volvo 340 falls into this latter category. The baby of Volvo's 80s line up was always a car bought by your grandmother. Something nice and safe to get to the shops in. On closer inspection though, you find the Volvo 340 is quite a clever little car. For one it's rear-wheel drive,...

Carrying on our sleeper theme I wanted to quickly showcase Peter Björck's 2JZ powered 1975 Volvo 245 wagon. Madness!

I wanted to start part two of the IAA Frankfurt Motorshow coverage with this Jaguar C-X16. I really liked the design and the lines of the car. This was definitively the car of the show for me. The wheels look like propellers from a plane and filled the arches perfectly. How can you not like a rear end like this? I wonder how much Jaguar is going to change this car before it will hit the dealers. Lamborghini had three cars on their stand and this Gallardo LP570-4 Supertrofeo Stradala was the main...

Was just sent this random snap from keen eyed reader Matthew Andrew from Panda Design Photography of a Volvo 240 Coupe. He spotted the Swedish 2-door at Phillip Island Raceway in Victoria, Australia, and having never seen one in person grabbed a shot. It's always nice to see rare cars like this kept so well, but most importantly of all used. -Dino Dalle Carbonare

After a year out of actually driving and building cars, I bought a 1972 Datsun 240z for $500. It was a rolling chassis, and been sitting since 1991. The guy that i bought it from said that it would take too much money to actually get this car to be street worthy, but I knew otherwise. ...

Spotted this awesome little video clip over on Jalopnik showing a Volvo 242 sliding its wheels off at Mantorp Park in Sweden.

When it comes to grinning behind the wheel, I don't think it can get much better than this.

The amount of Porsches that were present during the Touristenfahrt on Friday was astounding. Especially the 997 model which was very popular both in GT3 and GT2 form. A view at the parking lot shows it was pretty packed. It was all about checking your tire pressures and meeting up with friends. One of my favorite cars was this green Porsche 964. Not sure if it was a real Carrera RS but it looked perfect. The green and the gold from the BBS split rims are a perfect combination. It looked so right...

The SCCA World Challenge series has one of the most diverse grids in motorsports, with everything from Aston Martins and Vipers, to Civics and Scions competing in the series' three different classes. Without a doubt, two of the most unique cars in the series are a pair of Volvo S60 AWD's campaigned by K-Pax Racing....

Here's something a bit different from the usual RX7's, Silvias, and Imprezas we've been seeing - a hopped up Volvo 240 Turbo owned by reader Rasmus Pettinen of Finland. He didn't leave much info about the car, aside from the fact that it's in the process of being rebuilt. Thanks for the photo, Rasmus. -Mike Garrett...

Euro flavour and supercar style may well be what automotive modification dreams are made of - but a 360bhp Volvo S60 for half the price? Well that's just pure final fantasy. SCREAMING around bends and ripping across high-speed sweepers are all part of the fun before wide-open throttle down The Green Hell's Antoniusbuche straight, but when an engine goes pop there's the ensuing urgency for many to get their motors 'back on track' fast. When 29-year-old Belgian Koen Lauwereys had...

I don't know what it is with the Swedes and their engine transplants. I just got these pictures from an event called Bilsport Performance & Custom Show , held in Jönköping, Sweden. As you can see, the show was full of quality builds and crazy engine setups. There were many unusual and unexpected cars present, like this carbon fiber Saab. I know the Saab as a family car, but when I look at this example, I don't think it will be used as such. This thing looks out of this world...

Volvo may not be part of the VW Audi Group, but this drift-tuned 740 from Sweden was too cool not to post. The widened steel wheels match perfectly with the Volvo's boxy styling don't they? I can only imagine how fun this car would be on a snowy Swedish road... The world needs more Volvo drift cars like this one. Found on the Drift Works Forum -Mike Garrett...

In the second of our two part retrospective, we look at the second half of the 1990's in the British Touring Car Championship. If you missed the first part, then you can catch it here . With the help of images from BTCC.net and Peter Still Photographic, we rejoin the action from '96 season. BMW, Renault, Vauxhall, Ford and Honda were joined by Audi for the '96 Season. Audi Sport UK would dominated the series, thanks to their four wheel drive A4 quattro. The extra traction gave them more...

For tuning enthusiasts in Scandinavia, there are few events bigger than the Gatebil track gatherings. Arild Andersen was at the recent Gatebil event at Vålerbanen Circuit in Norway and snapped some great photos of both the drifting at time attack events that were going on there. I think both Rod and I are in agreement that these Scandinavian events bring one of the most diverse mixes of cars seen anywhere. It's so cool how you see wild-looking Euro cars like the Audi pictured above running...
