On Saturday as I was walking through the parking lot at Irwindale Speedway, I spotted this Ford LTD Wagon.
At a glance it looks like just an old wagon with some big wheels, but besides the set of Cobra Rs, I also noticed Wilwood brakes, Sparco seats, and a full roll cage.
I have no doubts about the potential of these Fox platform cars after seeing several at this year's Fabulous Fords Forever show, but this might be the most extreme example yet.
It's also an amazing sleeper to boot. Anyone have more info on this beast?

In stark contrast to the immaculately detailed Chevrolet Wagon I spotlighted yesterday, here's another station wagon find from the 2011 Cruisin' Nationals.
Back in 1950 when Ford built this car, I don't think anyone could imagine it looking as sinister as this....

Another one of my finds from the 2011 Cruisin' Nationals was this wild looking 1960 Chevrolet Station Wagon.
Wagons are universally cool, and for a cruiser with loads of style - this is as good as it gets....

Is the SYMS Impreza Wagon JTCC machine not one of the coolest race cars ever? Just thought I'd post up a shot of this rare beast I came across during one of my recent Google search journeys... If there was ever a Station Wagon Hall of Fame, this car would be have to be one of the first inductees... -Mike Garrett

Building a car doesn't always have to be about some crazy cross-brand engine swap or insane power mods. The simple fact of actually working on a car is a journey in itself. Marty Mulholland, from Mighty Car Mods, needed to swap over the engine in his old Subaru wagon to a whole new fresher shell and documented the process.
Watching this video makes you want to get in the garage and wrench away at your car doesn't it? Since I watched it, the thought of turbocharging my E30 has constantly been in my thoughts...

One thing that has always baffled me about the Japanese car market is the sheer number of models available from each maker - many of them seemingly competing with each other.
Since it's Honda Month, I thought it would be interesting to go through and take a look at the vast amount of compact hatchbacks, vans, and wagons that Honda has offered in Japan over recent years....

Howard sent us this picture of his dog hauler, parts hauler, and daily driver. It's a '94 Mercedes E320 Wagon powered by a '95 C36 AMG engine with a nitrous kit for good measure.
Powerful, smooth riding, great looking, and very unique.
Good choice, Howard.

This 1988 Civic Wagon started off as a joke. It was a build which infamous tuner, Bisimoto, took quite light heartily. But as all jokes go, its all about the delivery or final punch line. In order to have that great punch line a bit of seriousness had to brought in. Last year, a print magazine held a high profile engine building challenge and invited all the big tuning houses to compete. The challenge was for those tuning houses to build an engine that can produce the most horse power per liter in...

Hamish from New Zealand sent us this photo of his Mitsubishi Libero GT.
To be honest, I wasn't too familiar with the Libero, but as you can see Hamish has essentially turned his into the early Evo Wagon that Mitsubishi never built.
Awesome car and awesome backdrop. Thanks for the photo Hamish!

Spotted this radical looking Toyota Crown Estate over on RA64Freddy's blog, and knew I had to spread this one around a bit.
Their can't be too many wagons out there that look cooler than this. Just look at it!

There's no doubt that having four doors, a trunk, all-wheel drive, and all around practicality is great for going about your daily business. It's also great when your daily looks as good as these three Subarus. If you had to pick one of these, which one would you choose? The WRX wagon, the STI, or the Legacy? Me? I'll take the more understated looking Legacy. -Linhbergh via Quan Duong's Flickr

When you think of 'speed', you tend to picture a car that's, well, sporty. A hot hatch, coupe, fastback, or perhaps a convertible. But what about the body styles that are slightly more... unconventional? You don't usually associate 'speed' with 4-door variations, wagons, pick-ups and most certainly not vans. That's because most of them are, well, rather unsporty. But are they really?...

This is another one of those cars that's been popping up all over the place lately. Who would have thought Honda's awkwardly shaped wagon from the 1980's could look so tough?
This car was actually spotted at the USDM Jam event in Japan.

Reader Michael Mendoza sent us a photo of his project car, a '98 Subaru Impreza Wagon. Originally born as an Outback model, the car was in Michael's words "a two tone horrid looking thing that a grandma or soccer mom would drive". It's now sporting a full JDM exterior conversion, as well as suspension work. Future plans include a Version 8 STI swap, and a rear wheel drive conversion.
Sounds awesome. Keep us updated, Michael!

Here's a little JDM Euro style for your Friday. This VW Golf Variant was built by a company called Emu's Engineering out of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
It's wearing an Emu's original front spoiler and side skirts, and is dropped on air suspension over a set of 19x8.5 black Work XSA-03C's.
Just another one for the "sexy wagon" list.

Thought I'd follow up the gasser Plymouth with another slightly lower wagon of the same vintage built on the other side of the world. This '64 Datsun 411SSS is Mark Arcenal's latest project, and if it's anything like his other projects it should be one hell of a car when it's done.
The vintage Datsun is under construction right now at the Bay Area's DGR Fabrication.
Check Mark's blog for a few more photos from the early stages of the build.

It's not too often that we post cars from Ebay here, but I'm going to make an exception. The other day my dad and I were checking out some of the old station wagons up for sale on the site when we came across this '65 Plymouth Belvedere Wagon gasser.
The moment I saw the car, I knew I had to share it here.
A gasser station wagon? It's hard to get any more maverick or misfit than that!...

Here's a car that fits in with our monthly theme, or a "minor" car as it would be known in Japan - a Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia Wagon.
Being a "minor", it has more one-off parts than you can shake a stick at, including the aero parts, coilovers and suspension arms. The wheels are Work Schwert SC4's 18x8 in the front and 18x9 in the rear.
Goes to show what can be had with a little hard work and some innovation....

Just a couple weeks ago I posted a photo of a previous gen Accord Wagon from Japan, pondering how cool it would be if Honda decided to bring the new Accord Tourer to North America as the TSX Wagon. Perhaps someone from Honda was reading? Acura has just announced the TSX Sport Wagon will be joining the lineup for 2011. The car most likely will look very similar to the Euro/Japanese market Accord Tourer pictured up above.
Hmmm...I wonder if it will be time to replace my daily driver come 2011?
