Working as a Speedhunter may be the best gig on the face of the earth, but I certainly wouldn't call it an easy job. There's the travel, the long days, and the rigors of shooting in all types of weather - just to name a few of the challenges. Then of course comes the many additional hours of photo editing and preparing the stories themselves.
For me, yesterday was probably the longest and most exhausting 24 hours in my Speedhunting career, yet it was also one of the absolute best. This is all thanks to the Osaka's vibrant car scene, and more importantly - the hospitality of its people....

Seeing a show as big as the Tokyo Auto Salon materialize in front of your very eyes is an indescribable experience. As armies of contracted workers erect complex booths, the year's most anticipated demo cars are driven into the vast Makuhari Messe exhibition center. For me nothing beats the few hours I spend every year roaming though the various halls as everyone rushes to set up. Seeing all those new cars for the first time, the latest parts unboxed and of course catching up with so many people...

There are a few things you could do in 30 hours. You could complete a 5000 piece puzzle of "the last supper" or in my case, you could visit the land of the rising sun. Scion wanted to give a few members of the media (twelve to be exact) a sneak preview of their up and coming sports coupe, and I was lucky enough to be one of them. They also brought along Ken Gushi, a Scion Racing pro drifter. This is my fourth time to Japan. I've always gone in the winter time so I am used to seeing...

I am, by no means, new to press events. But to this day, I still find them to be a strange affair with an almost fantasy-like quality. Back in August, I had the opportunity to attend the North American debut of Pagani's newest car , the Huayra. It was rather posh event filled with free flowing champagne, fruit infused sparkling water and exquisite hors d'oeuvres whose names I'll never be able to pronounce. And in those few hours, I was in the fantasy land created by Mr. Pagani himself...

Most of you will know of Carl Jarrett and I through our Speedhunters contributions, however our day jobs are as part of Need for Speed's car team. Carl is NFS's Vehicle Art Director while I'm the Vehicle Styling Director and, together with our talented team, we take real world cars and transform them into virtual replicas. If you've ever wondered how cars are modeled into games, read on....

It's said that some 100 thousand people attend SEMA each year and I'll wager a guess, that the vast majority of them are not there to gawk at cars. No, most people go to SEMA to do business: to showcase new products, find new business partners and network, network, network. Sure everyone loves a well constructed customized car, but the main reason the aftermarket industry come to Vegas has more to do with business development and growing your business card collection than anything else. So...

When you think of a major professional drift event, the first things that come to mind are the drivers, the cars and their respective teams. In essence however, they are mere cogs in a much bigger machine. Behind the scenes, events like Formula D take months of planning, a fully dedicated staff and, of course, the famous last minute dash to the finish line. In the lead up to the final round at Irwindale, we decided to take a peek at how it all gets put together. This is what Irwindale Speedway looks...

I felt so privileged to have the chance to follow Team USA around at World Drift Series China in Hang Zhou. Even though our drivers are given unfavorable conditions and unfavorable odds, they still seem to make the best out of it. Vaughn Gittin Jr's crew chief, Ian Stewart, of Auto Sport Dynamics, told me that he loves competing in China. He mentioned that it brings everyone back to the roots of drifting. The teams don't have fancy rigs and spare parts are very limited. Drifting in China...

The first round of World Drift Series China was a big success for Team Need for Speed. Vaughn Gittin Jr. finished first and Matt Powers finished second. The event was held in the industrial and smoggy city of Tianjin. The second and final round of the series was held in the beautiful city of Hang Zhou. Five members of the media came along for the Asian adventure. Three of which, including me, were Speedhunters. Midway through our fourteen-hour flight to China, I decided to check on the boys of team...

My job is to follow these hardened souls known as race car drivers. They have to be emotionless. It is all too easy to make a mistake driving on the edge. And when they win, emotions pour out freely. That is when I come in to capture that faint moment in time. I treated the Formula Drift finals at Irwindale like the I was shooting the Olympic games or an inauguration of a new world leader. I wanted to be the first to bring that style of photo journalism to the sport of drifting. It may not be important...

For this ‘Behind the scenes' post I wanted to share some of ‘the secrets' we have as photographers. I still don't consider myself as a professional photographer but with the right equipment and help of my fellow Speedhunters I'm getting there. At the recent GT3 event on the Zandvoort circuit I tagged along with Jonathan Moore to see how he approaches the race as a photographer. I asked him if he could reveal his camera settings and which equipment he used. I'll will...

Our final day in China started off with a big bang. The cars started to arrive around 3 AM local Beijing time. The last car to arrive was Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s Mustang, which showed up at 6 AM. All night the cars were pulled out of the containers along with all the spare parts and tires needed to keep these machines running. This is Todd Ho. He actually grew up in California but he moved to China recently for work. Todd was the very first driver to swap in a LS motor in his FC RX-7 and drove it...

I had a feeling it would not be a normal day as we touched down in Beijing at 8:30 AM local time. How often can you say you were stuck in the middle of a Chinese freeway during rush hour? I was traveling with six mechanics, five drivers, four members of the media (including me) and one judge. We were all headed to World Drift Series China in the city of Tianjin. In China, everyone seemed to have switched on tourist mode. Everyone, including Justin Shreeve and Joe Ayala, from "Tandem of die,"...

As it sit in my hotel room, which is not too far from the Road Atlanta race track where the 13th running of the Petit Le Mans is about to happen, I thought I'd take time to look back at my time at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the six hour race, which can be considered as a warm up to the ten hour race at Road Atlanta. I had the opportunity to once again follow the Falken Tire team as they went about their weekend. The Falken Tire team has had a great season so far. They won two races with the...

The Paddock. Formula 1's inner sanctum. With perimeter fencing and security tight enough to rival an airport, this part of F1 is rarely seen. It is here that the F1 drivers, teams, media and VIP celebrities mingle. If you've ever wanted to know what goes on inside the Paddock, hopefully you'll enjoy this behind the scenes look at the Singapore Grand Prix. There's quite a procedure to get into the Paddock and access is strictly regulated. You first pass a checkpoint where an official...

Shooting a film of any scale, or of any budget, requires a few key things to be successfully executed. One of those is a well organized and well planned pre-production phase. This includes figuring things out like the location, a shot list, on-screen talents and even the food that will be eaten during the duration of the filming. I was lucky enough to spend a day with Will Roegge and his cohort, DC Chavez, as they were on location, at the now empty El Toro Air Force base in Irvine, California, filming...

It's been over two weeks now since the Revival and to be honest, I've still not been able to process it. The effect the meeting has on you - which for all intents and purposes is time travelling - is a profound one. I've spent some time reading through some of Jonathan's marvellous stories from the event in an attempt to better comprehend what I've experience ... ... which in-turn would allow me to better convey the event to you, the reader. But in all honesty, how often do you...

There isn't a whole lot to say about the Goodwood Revival that hasn't been said before. However, what has been said needs to be constantly repeated until every motoring enthusiast on this planet knows just how important and impressive the Revival meeting is. It may seem a little bit unpalatable from the outside, but with the vast, vast majority of visitors to the Revival dressed in period correct clothing, it does so much to enhance the atmosphere and overall feel of the event. I know Jonathan...

It's not long now before the Irish leg of our little Team NFS drift tour kicks off in full effect. I really have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow! There is so much talent converging on Mondello Park that the name of the victor could be anyone's guess. In the meantime, I've packaged up a few images from today's practice session to wet your appetite. Speaking to Fredric Aasbo this evening, he seems very happy the competitiveness of the Supra. In this shot, he's following...

It really is amazing. A couple of years back - maybe 2007/8 - I watched and photographed Darren unloading his SR86 onto Irish soil for the first time since he made his name in the US. It was also here back in 2005 I believe that Darren unveiled his SR86 for the very first time. I don't think either of us could have imagined just how far things have some in the space of these short few years. This weekend at Mondello Park, we will be wrapping up the Team Need for Speed UK & Ireland tour. After...
