Darren: There’s no smoke without fire...
Fredric: Right on the money! The Prodrift Mondello finals were definitely one for the books. I'll start where we left off in part 1 – at the very moment we lined up for the Top 16 driver introductions. The crowd was crazy loud! The Irish certainly knows how to put on a warm welcome! I stood right next to my top 16 battle opponent Mike Deane, and just like the rest of the Deanes (there's a lot of them!) he brings a great vibe. With all the anticipation in the air and Mike looking like a young Robert Redford it kind of felt like we were at the grid for a 60's Le Mans race!...

Fredric: Hello Speedhunters! Here's part one of our writeup from the Prodrift Finals at Mondello Park in Ireland. It was an absolutely incredible weekend and in all seriousness it was one of the absolutely best drifting events I have ever attended. Every time I have met my Irish friends around the world they have always put a smile on my face, but visiting them at their home turf took it to a whole new level. It was about to get crazy. Fredric: The Prodrift Finals at Mondello Park was the second...

The Team Need for Speed UK-Ireland Drift Tour is now ready to be filed into the memory banks. But before we move on to the next Speedhunting subject matter, we still have a few stories to weave about our recent trips to Northampton in the UK and County Kildare in Ireland. In two consecutive weekends I hit up the Edition 38 VAG show... ... the British Drift Championship at the Trax show in Silverstone... ... and the Japfest at Mondello Park... ...which also housed the Pro Drift finale. Along the way...

After what must have been the toughest and closest fought drift event I've ever witnessed on these shores, James Deane eventually emerged victorious in the Low Brain Drifter's PS13. The event which saw some serious upsets during qualifying came down to a final between James and our own D-Mac. However, upon initiation Darren cut the first turn slightly, damaging the sump of the Need for Speed '86. Shortly after the escaping engine oil erupted in a lick of flame before extinguishing itself...

It's not long now before the Irish leg of our little Team NFS drift tour kicks off in full effect. I really have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow! There is so much talent converging on Mondello Park that the name of the victor could be anyone's guess. In the meantime, I've packaged up a few images from today's practice session to wet your appetite. Speaking to Fredric Aasbo this evening, he seems very happy the competitiveness of the Supra. In this shot, he's following...

It really is amazing. A couple of years back - maybe 2007/8 - I watched and photographed Darren unloading his SR86 onto Irish soil for the first time since he made his name in the US. It was also here back in 2005 I believe that Darren unveiled his SR86 for the very first time. I don't think either of us could have imagined just how far things have some in the space of these short few years. This weekend at Mondello Park, we will be wrapping up the Team Need for Speed UK & Ireland tour. After...

Darren: Hello Speedhunters!! And welcome to the competition launch of the D-Mac86 on home soil (well sort of) I've been looking forward to returning to one of my old stomping grounds, Silverstone circuit in the UK for quite some time. I left the UK drift scene a good while ago after my D1GP success in Silverstone led me to Irwindale and Formula D. My initial excitement for returning to European competition was dampened by the unknowns of a new car build. It was going to be really difficult to...

Fredric Aasbo smoked his Supra to victory at Trax, beating Super Pro BDC regulars Phil Morrison and David Waterworth to the top spot of the podium. Head over to the Desktops section to pick up a selection of images of the two Team NFS Toyotas who put in guest appearances – D-Mac finished fourth in his AE86. Grey skies couldn't dampen the spirits at Silverstone, and a big crowd was pressed up against the fences to watch the fifth round of this year's British Drift Championship. Aasbo's...

As the smoke settles from Formula D Las Vegas, Fredric Aasbo and Darren McNamara must now quickly turn their attention to the next challenge at hand: competing in the British Drift Championship Silverstone @ the Trax Show on Sept 4th and Pro Drift Mondello Park @ the Jap Fest Ireland on Sept 11th. They are likely both getting ready to head back to their bases in Norway and Ireland respectively for final preparations. Darren will have a week of wrenching ahead of him, as he completes the Dmac86 for...

It was a day that couldn't make up its mind. Off track and on track at Las Vegas Motorspeedway. It was a day filled with dark moody skies, short periods of rain showers, sunshine, upsets, break downs, and of course, the excessive heat of the desert. But when all the heat, tire smoke and dust subsided, there was a person on top of the podium that hasn't seen such graces in a good while. Rhys Millen drove his heart out and stood on the top step. Darren McNamara took 2nd, and Team Need for Speed...

Darren just sent us across this video capturing some of the on-board action inside the Team Need for Speed D-Mac '86 from Awesomefest. Hit play and turn up your speakers for a bridgeported rotary aural assault.

Hello Speedhunters, it has been a while! Just over a week ago myself and the crew headed over to Mallory Park for Awesomefest with the D-Mac86. Awesomefest was to be a pretty laid back four wheeled / two wheeled / music festival so it was an ideal opportunity to do some high speed testing in a car that we still hadn't properly driven in anger. All cars would be pitted together so the fans could see them all in one place. It was nice to see some old faces from back in the day. It has been a long...

Motorsport is a tough old game. You can spend months, years even building your own personal race car and with one slight misjudgement all those hours of hard work can be undone in an instant. Most of us would probably have a little cry and call it a day. Darren McNamara however only saw fresh opportunity when faced with this exact dilemma. To really show you the whole picture of how this car evolved, I need to first take you back to October 2009. D-Mac was finishing his second season as a Formula...

Perhaps one of the first cars from Ireland to make a true impact on the international drifting stage, D-Mac can attribute everything he has achieved to date to this Corolla. When it first arrived on the scene in 2005, it was always clear that this car would make an impression. From the top of my head, the car has competed in Prodrift, D1GP, Formula D, D1GB and a host of other series' that have either changed name or have faded away and has taken many scalps along the way. The SR20 power source...

Team Need for Speed will be in full effect at select European drift events this summer and fall with Formula Drift superstars Fredric Aasbo and Darren McNamara in the spotlight. Team Need for Speed has had quite a successful 2011 season thus far in the Formula Drift Championship – the North American premier drifting series – and now that the team will be expanding its horizons to European events, more success is guaranteed to follow. 2010 Formula D Rookie of the year, Fredric Aasbo, will...

We've just received news that our own D-Mac's Team Need for Speed AE86 has made the cover of Japanese Performance magazine in the United Kingdom. The magazine, which is on shelves now, features a seven page in-depth look beneath the skin of this rotary powered monster. This is the world exclusive feature on the car, also features a Tommi Makinen Evo along with a plethora of other feature cars. The feature will be appearing here on Speedhunters soon ... - Paddy McGrath Team Need for Speed...

Round One of the 2011 Formula DRIFT Championship series taught us to expect the unexpected for the new professional drift season. Daijiro Yoshihara of team Falken took top honors last year at Atlanta. Let's see how he does with a refreshed chassis. Matt Powers, Team Need for Speed driver, is currently in 2nd place for the Championship. As always, with six rounds left anything can happen. Team Need for Speed driver, Fredric Aasbo got lucky when his control arm broke during practice. He just went...

Hello Speedhunters ! May I formally introduce the Need for Speed D-Mac86 in her almost finished glory. This is a real proud moment for me and it's amazing to have built one of my dream cars. I must say that I'm very proud of the team behind the build and how we managed to get so much done in such a short space of time. The plan was to finish the car for the Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed launch in Dublin on March 25th and we did! Rolling it onto the trailer at 6.30am that morning after...

Breaking cover for the very first time, the rotary powered Team Need for Speed D-Mac AE86 made its public debut at the Irish launch of the latest Need for Speed title, Shift2 Unleashed. To celebrate the occassion of this long-awaited moment, we've put together a series of dektop images for your viewing pleasure. I still can't quite believe how quickly this all came about. Although it is not completely finished according to D-Mac's & MCNSport's high standards, it was absolutely...
