During my time as a Speedhunter I've learnt one thing: that the people from Scandinavia are truly mental when it comes to building cars. Take this Golf project for example, which is not only mind-blowing, but also executed flawlessly. First you take a discarded Golf MKIII and start tearing it apart. When you're left with a bare shell it's time to test fit some of the parts. The owner opted to go wide-body. Then it's time to start fabricating. As you can see there is not much left...

Before I started my job as a full time Speedhunter, I was a regular reader of the site. Looking back, I was pretty ignorant towards many of the varying aspects of car culture. I would often just skip past things without any consideration, searching only for those stories that appealed to me and my tastes. Since coming on-board though, I've had every one of my opinions and viewpoints challenged on a daily basis. I've attended shows and events I never would have even considered previously and...

For his first video of 2012, Mr. Brooks has put together a short video feature of Jamie McToldridge's opinion splitting 'Zero-Lip' Golf. We spotlighted the G60 powered car last year at the Players Show in Essex, UK. Afterwards, you had a lot to say about the car but have any of your opinions changed since?

After our look at the Tuners and the Race & Drift cars at the Essen Motor Show, let's turn our attention to the street cars. The show always has a great mix of cars, from the good, to the bad. There really is something for everyone! OZ Razing had some cool wheels on display including this Leggenda Racing model. It comes in 17" and you can order it in this matte black finish with white lettering or with a matte white finish with red lettering. Besides the replica Renault 5 Turbo race...

What's better than having one Golf MKI GTI? Two of course. Tim Verbeek, who owns the white Golf we saw earlier, also has this black example in his garage. While the white Golf was more of a restoration project, this is meant to be a cool fun toy for the weekend. The exterior features deep black paint with some chrome accents. The door handles have also been polished. Instead of the red strip on the original GTI grill, Tim has replaced it with a chrome piece. But maybe even more interesting is...

I recently asked some of my friends what they thought was the most iconic car in history, and perhaps unsurprisingly, many of them answered with the Volkswagen Golf MKI GTI. Maybe I asked the wrong people, because all of them are VW minded and drive similar cars like this one! But the Golf MKI GTI is certainly an iconic car in its own right. This car was one of the first hot hatches and is continuing to gain popularity as a project car. However, despite its large production numbers, finding an unmolested...

I thought I would get our Street Cars and Sleepers theme kicked off with a quick trip into the memory banks to find a car which was my own first introduction to the "Sleeper" concept, many decades ago. Built in the late 70s by the Hanover based tuning company, Nordstadt, the Golf 928 took a fully functioning, shortened Porsche chassis and clothed it with a bespoke Golf body. Details are a little sketchy on how many of these cars were produced -I've read that anywhere from 2 to 20 were...

Last week I was able to get myself a new camera. After shooting with Rod's Canon 5D at the recent 24hrs GT3 events I knew I needed to upgrade. So I got myself the latest Canon 60D and I wanted to familiarize myself with it before I head off to the Frankfurt Motor Show. So yesterday I went to the Parkstad VAG Event to get my first shots with the new camera. One thing I noticed when I entered the parking lot in front of the Roda JC football club stadium where the event was held was this sticker...

Besides offering a much more affordable way to own your favorite cars, scale models can allow you to build stuff that might not be feasible in real life. Take this scale Evo X for example, which has been outfitted with the front end (and rear end) from a Golf 5 GTI. This custom creation comes from the same talented builder that did the EK9 Civic I posted a few months ago. If someone were to build this in real life it would spark plenty of heated "discussion". Is the same true for its scale counterpart? -Mike Garrett...

I'll continue part two of the VW Fanatics show coverage with this gorgeous MKI. It belongs to Ron Huijzer and I have featured it here before but I have now had the chance to get a real close look and capture many of the details that I missed before. This Jetta belongs to Oliver Verheij who is part of the organization and also shoots for Performance VW magazine. I'll have a full spotlight on this car because it features some amazing parts inside and out. These Dual Solex intakes are part of...

During my visit to the MIVW show I was invited to visit the VW Fanatics show . The setup is much smaller but the cars in attendance have a very high build quality. I selected several cars for spotlights but first it is time for a general overview of the event itself. The MKIII convertible above came all the way from France. The owner organizes the VW Days in France and is also responsible for the new Ferdinand clothing line. There was a great mix of cars that ranged from this orange MKI to... .....

Time for Part 2 of my first hillclimb coverage. In Part 1 I showed you portions of the race but now I wanted to concentrate on the road side paddocks and cars in general. The Scirocco above was one of many with this kind of extreme aero. All of these cars were purpose built and they had to drive on public roads to get from their own paddock to the start line. Some farmers opened their premises to accommodate some of the drivers and their cars. At one farm I found this cool NSU. They had an entire...

This was one of those cars that I sadly missed at the Wörthersee Tour . So at M.I.V.W. I finally got to see why there was so much buzz surrounding this car. You might not see it at a first glance but there is a reason why all those people are surrounding it. It just so happens that the entire car has been covered in carbon. The owner came all the way from Hungary to showcase his car. A true testament to the international nature of the M.I.V.W. show. But a car made out of carbon isn't enough...

Time for my final report on the M.I.V.W. show after part one and part two. Don't worry I still have some spotlights coming and at the end of the month there will another major VW show that I will be attending. This purple MKIII looked very clean on a set of BBS mesh wheels. In the back you can see the podium and the off ramp. During the day all sorts of cars would get their minute of fame whilst the audience watched. I saw a lot of people commenting on the fact that there weren't any track...

This is one of those cars that I've always wanted to see in real life. I have seen so many shots of it before but now it was time to have a closer look. What we are looking at is a MK4 Golf R32 from 2003 that has been built by G-werks . A shop that offer parts for most of the VAG range with some of the world's leading brands available. They even have a small workshop to work on cars and carry out modifications. It seems that they churn out some really outstanding cars that really have a massive...

Here we go with part two of the M.I.V.W. coverage . I was surprised seeing so many older generation Sciroccos at the event. Some of them were in pristine condition like the red one at the front on a set of BBS RF wheels. A nice Golf MKII on OZ Futuras with golden centers. The MKII is still a very popular platform especially considering that prices keep dropping but finding a good example to start with seems a bit more difficult. But if you have the means and aren't afraid to get dirty you can...

One weekend you are shooting GT3 race cars on one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world and the next weekend you a doing a leisurely stroll in between the best Volkswagens in Europe. I guess that is the life a Speedhunter lives. But you won't hear me complaining, not at all. I really had to adjust to the pace after a race filled weekend in Belgium. Once I got to meet some of my motoring friends it was time to get the camera out. M.I.V.W is the event to go to in Holland when you have...

On Monday we asked you guys what kind of Speedhunting activities you had done through our Twitter channel . Shortly after that I got an email from Ronald Veth who paid a visit to the Volksdub event here in Holland. After looking at some of the pictures it seemed that the event itself wasn't very big but the quality of the cars was very high. Like the Golf MKIV above. You don't see many Golf's in this red color but it really makes the car standout especially with those split Porsche rims...

When I got a message through Facebook from somebody who I have met a few times before in the Dutch show scene saying he had some new material, I was curious. Then my mailbox got flooded with a bunch of pictures from a event in Denmark called DHB. After seeing all the photos I'm convinced that the guys in Denmark invented the word ‘Hooning'. You could witness some high powered Toyotas doing a quarter mile run. See some interesting show cars. Like this Golf equipped with an airbag system...

Like I mentioned in my first Wörthersee Tour story I arrived real early on the Monday before the event. I already knew that a friend had arrived on Saturday so when I got their I texted him saying I arrived. But because my hotel room wasn't finished I told him to meet me at the Shell gas station . I got there first and immediately pulled my camera out and started shooting. One of the first cars I saw was this white on pink Golf from Austria. I got to talk to the owner, Benjamin Gemperli...
