Many of you will be familiar with Easton Chang, the automotive photographer whose work regularly graces magazine covers and manufacturer advertisements. However, what few realise is the fact that Easton is self-taught and self-made. Through years of hard work and dedication to his art, Easton has gone from a nobody to one of the established photographers, and has claimed a staggering number of awards along the way. I first worked with Easton some eight years ago when I was the Editor of ASM, and...

There's a saying in racing that if there's one person you must beat, it's your team-mate. In FD Florida, Team Need for Speed had a glimpse of that when Matt Powers and Fredric Aasbo were paired against each other in the top 32. It was an incredible, no-holds-barred battle between the two team-mates. And while both drivers are known for being aggressive on the track, what are they like off it? To find out, Speedhunters stuck a voice recorder between them to see what really goes on in the TNFS pits. What ensued was a rather candid discussion...

You don't need to be a Honda fanatic to know the name Stephan Papadakis. It's a name that is synonymous with the sport compact scene, with Stephan being one of the key pioneers in cementing this new culture in the automotive world. For my generation of enthusiasts at least, Stephan Papadakis has been - and still is - one of the most influential people that have led to the scene that we have today. For many years, Stephan Papadakis was considered untouchable on the drag strip, steering a 'wrong...

Nobody out there better represents what the Japanese Honda scene is all about than Tatsuru Ichishima. Even before Spoon Sports was established back in 1988 he was actively involved in preparing Hondas for racing series that he himself participated in. Having worked for Honda as a test driver at the beginning of his career, Ichishima-san decided to devote his expertise and engineering skill in a way that would allow enthusiasts to make their Hondas faster... ...following the simple principle that...

We've all heard the rumors that have spread through the internet recently regarding the split between D1 and its two biggest personalities, Daijiro Inada and the great Keiichi Tsuchiya. D1 and these two guys go hand in hand like drifting and tire-smoke, or so that is what everyone thought until last month. Rumors started spreading through the Tsukuba paddock at the Rev Speed Lap Battle, most people shocked at the news that hinted Yokohama had also pulled out, leaving 12 or so drivers without...

A few weeks ago we had a rare opportunity to sit down with an absolute legend of Drag Racing: Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. His Hot Wheels and Army funny cars are likely some of the most famous machines to ever thunder down the quarter mile, so it was quite an honour to spend time with him. Speedhunters: Thought we would start talking about very early days, your name is synonymous with drag racing, but for you, when did you first hear about drag racing, two cars racing each other. Don Prudhomme...

Speedhunters: You are a man that usually needs no introduction in the automotive world. But for those that don't know who you are, just who the heck are you? Tanner: I'm a car enthusiast who has been lucky enough to make driving my profession. Speedhunters: Can you talk about how you got involved with all your latest ventures this year? Tanner: Over the last seven years of drifting I've worked hard to spread the news about the sport that I owe so much to and to promote the idea that drivers...

Sometimes, on a day like today, I look back and reflect, that all things considered, I have had a fortunate life. Auditing, Accounting, Advertising, Design and Motorsport have paid the bills somehow. They have largely kept me out of mischief and taken me to some far flung places and events that I would otherwise have missed More importantly these occupations have introduced me to some pretty strange and interesting people along the way, some were scoundrels and wastrels but there was never a dull...

How many of you consider Speedhunters to be an American website? Quite a lot I would imagine? Perhaps you'd be surprised to know that Speedhunters HQ is in fact based in Vancouver, Canada. This misconception of nationality might be based on the fact that we don't really feature a lot of our local West Coast, Canadian scene on Speedhunters. I suppose we should really try and be more supportive of local happenings, but unfortunately the time between Speedhunting trips is normally taken up with...

At the beginning of the month Rod asked me if I knew somebody to interview. The first name that popped into my head was that of Elliott Roberts, the editor at Performance VW . This is the magazine that keeps me coming back to the bookstore to see if the latest issue is already on the bookshelf. The layout and the writing together with the photos are top notch. I met Elliott at the latest M.I.V.W event . It was very cool to see an editor that is in the middle of the scene. If anybody knows how the...

What Kumakubo has done for drifting, goes beyond the duties of a simple driver. He was right there when the scene got started and his fascination with the art of going sideways drove him to create what everyone refers to as Drift Heaven, Ebisu Circuit. On my last visit up to the town of Nihonmatsu in Fukushima-ken where the circuit is located, I stopped by Kumakubo's tuning shop, K Style, to take a look at a car that the whole drift community is anxiously waiting to see, the new Team Orange Nissan...

Luke Fink caused quite a stir in the UK drifting scene this by quite literally overnight becoming the man to beat. After driving non-stop from Madrid to Manchester, some 1300 miles, to make practice of the first JDM Allstars round this year, Luke managed a handful of practice laps before qualifying first in an event that featured the recognised talent of Mark Luney, Dan Chapman, Phil Morrisson, Martin Ffrench and many others. This shows probably two of Luke's finest attributes: His dedication...

As we start to wrap up Interview Month, we wanted to get in touch with Mark Arcenal to get his thoughts on car life, the stance movement, and his own inspirations.
If you aren't familiar with Mark, he's the father of Fatlace, Hellaflush, and was already a mover and shaker in the car world when I was still in high school. He also has one of the coolest car collections ever......

Drag racing is intrinsically woven into Australia's car culture. Like many Aussie car addicts, I've grown up with drag racing constantly in my periphery. While it was a sport once dominated by Australia's V8 scene, people like Ray Box opened it up to the late-model sport compact enthusiasts. As the founder of Jamboree, the internationally recognized drag racing event, Ray Box introduced an entire new generation to the world of the quarter mile. Celebrating Jamboree's 20th anniversary...

This has got be be the meatiest interview we've done yet. Pour yourself a drink, sit down, and enjoy this fantastic conversation between pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr.and Patrick Soderlund, the EA executive and co-driver of the Team NFS BMW Z4.
This conversation happened back in the spring when Vaughn traveled to the UK to get his first taste of FIA GT racing....

Once I found out our monthly theme for September would be interviews, I knew Mad Mike Whiddett would be the perfect candidate.
As he heads towards the end of his first season as a Formula D competitor, Mike tells us about his experiences drifting in the US, Japan, and New Zealand, his take on car style, and much more....

Interview month... When Rod announced this would be Septembers theme I did quake a little in my boots. I have not done any formal interviews before so I'm a little unsure where to start. So for the first of my planned interviews I thought I would start with a larger than life presence with in UK drifting that likes to talk ... Steve (Stiggy) Evans. Famed for piloting 'the mighty starlet' Steve is a crowd favorite at every event he competes at. I met up with him at his workshop as he was...

It's been a pretty hectic few weeks here at the Speedhunters Ireland office. It seems I'm just starting to recover from one event before plunging both feet into the next. When travelling around I'm fortunate to have a lot of time to myself to think things out and plan ahead. For interview month, I just knew there was one man I needed to get in touch with. Since he joined the drifting scene several years ago, Shane Lynch has arguably been one of the most talked about competitors both on...
