For the last of our Drift Union car features, we have the most well known car of the trio - Logan Noel's 1993 Subaru Legacy. In addition to being one the most unique grassroots drift cars in North America, Logan's Legacy also happened to be voted by you guys as the 2010 Speedhunters Street Drift Car of the Year....

There's no doubt that having four doors, a trunk, all-wheel drive, and all around practicality is great for going about your daily business. It's also great when your daily looks as good as these three Subarus. If you had to pick one of these, which one would you choose? The WRX wagon, the STI, or the Legacy? Me? I'll take the more understated looking Legacy. -Linhbergh via Quan Duong's Flickr

With the recent release of the sedan version of the Impreza WRX STi, Subaru and its tuning arm Subaru Tecnica International, are definitely creating the sort of cars enthusiasts expect from them. This said however, STi are once again up to their old tricks of keeping the best they come up with for the home market . Back in June I was invited by the folks at STi to sample a car that not many people know about outside of Japan, the Legacy tS, where "tS" is a new moniker that stands for "tuned...

When I dropped by Subaru Tecnica International the other week to pick up the Impreza R205 I finally got to see the new STi gallery that has recently been built right outside the Subaru factory gates. I was very impressed with the whole set-up, which is part of the much larger Car Do Subaru Mitaka dealership. Here customers can drop by to order their new cars and at the same time take a stroll through the gallery space on the second floor to check out what cars are currently on display. On top of...

Time to wrap up the 2010 Hyper Meeting coverage with this final look at more action and some of the most powerful all-wheels-drive machinery in Japan, starting with the mighty AVO Impreza demo car, now sporting a lighter curb weight and even more power. As Ross explained they managed to shave off close to 60 kg by using lightweight materials and fitting paper-thin lexan glass to the doors and rear windscreen. Under the hood the car is running the trusty 2.5L Cosworth motor, that in four years of...

One of the biggest attraction of the Hyper Meeting is always the race cars and you can't get more aggressive than this GT300 Cusco Impreza, a car that was never particularly successful in Super GT but one that always grabbed the heart of enthusiasts. This is now replaced by the Legacy in the GT300 class. It is yet unknown if Zero Sport will create another open class Impreza to participate in the Super Lap Battle. If they do I'd really like to see this 4-door STi be used, a car that they built...

Time to dive into the world of all-wheel-drive cars with a more detailed look at some of the action and at some of the rides on display from the 2010 Hyper Meeting. Like every year this is the first event that I get my first serious sunburn of the season, and the sun sure didn't spare my poor sensitive skin this time round either! Despite this I hanged out on track during the biggest events, and was glad I finally saw the Japan-only R205 in action. I have to say, that after a few years, I'm...

After spending last weekend down in Nagoya it was back to the Ibaraki-ken countryside today for what has for many years been one of the biggest track events of the year, the Hyper Meeting. As I made my way through the paddock this morning I was very impressed with the turnout of cars, which seemed to span as far as the eye could see, and the number of people that had turned up to check out the various track events was simply outstanding. If you think Tokyo Auto Salon gets buys, you should check out...

Last week at the SEMA Show parked amongst all the WRX's in the Subaru booth was this 2010 "VIP" Legacy Sedan. Now you can argue for days about what makes a true VIP car, but the people putting this Legacy together certainly did their research. Even the official info Subaru provided about the car says "VIP style is known for a clean, yet heavily reworked luxury theme with an emphasis on impossibly-low ride height and aggressive wheels."...

The LEGACY B4 GT300 made its racing debut at Fuji Speedway a few weeks back in Round 7 of the 2009 SUPER GT series, marking a new direction for STi with their first fully-backed GT programme getting underway at the legendary circuit. Subaru is, of course, no stranger to SUPER GT, having given factory support, in particular during the 2008 season, to the CUSCO-backed Impreza that had been campaigned for many years in Japan’s top motorsport category. It hardly needs to be said, but Subaru is...

Right now the finishing touches are being put on the new Subaru Legacy B4 race car that will run in the GT300 class of the Super GT series. The new car is being built by R&D Sport in Kanagawa Prefecture and should be debuting at Super GT Rd.6 next month in Suzuka. The boxer-powered Legacy will be driven by Tetsuya Yamano (who drove the GT300 Impreza) and Shogo Mitsuyama. Can't wait to see what the finished product looks like next month! Thanks to Super GT man Len Clarke for the tip. More on Subaru's press release here. -Mike Garrett...

You know, Subarus aren't all about rally jumping and hot lapping. This Legacy B4 sedan is a demo car for Liberal Aero, a company in Japan that specializes in classy looking body parts for Subaru vehicles. The European touch is obvious here, with a clear inspiration from high end BMW and Audi sports sedans. You couldn't do much better for a daily driver than this well-balanced and comfy sedan with that famous boxer punch. Liberal -Mike Garrett...

Subaru will always be known first and foremost for its Impreza, but in Japan the Impreza's bigger brother the Legacy is just as popular. Although they are generally favored as street cars, tuned Legacy's do show up to the track pretty often. I spotted this fully built second gen Legacy Wagon at an HKS track day at Tsukuba last year. I recall it being one of the fastest cars of the day, and that's not hard to imagine when you look at what's been to this thing. In the photo you can spot the full cage, Endless brakes, Advan wheels, and a fat front mount intercooler along with that aggressive aero kit. And that's just on the outside... Do you guys want to see some more Legacy love this month? -Mike Garrett...

It wasn't all about turbocharged fury at the Hyper Meeting this year. Smaller cars like the TM-Square ZC31S Suzuki Swift above captivated the minds of those looking for more affordable cars to tune. The entry-level rally-car image the Swift has gives it quite a following in Japan and I have to say I quite like them too! TryForce, who specialize on smaller cars like the Suzuki Jimny and Daihatsu Copen brought their Swift demo car sporting a very aggressive body kit with massive canards fitted...

If there is something I really like about the Hyper Meeting it has to be the mix of race cars the organizers throw into the event. As an opening shot I chose this action snap of the Super Taikyu (ST) Team Endless EvoX, flying past me just before the main in-field hairpin. ST regulations dictate that the cars need to stay in a pretty "stock" state of tune, so it's all about fine tuning. The Evo's chassis is stiffened up with a beefy looking roll-cage, while the interior is all stripped...

There's always been something that appeals to me about the Subaru Legacy, the "grown up" sibling to the Impreza. My time in Japan sold me on the Legacy even more, as it's one of the most popular tuning platforms there in both wagon and sedan form. In fact, there are a couple magazines in Japan dedicated just to Legacy tuning. The current Legacy has been around for nearly six years, so that means it's time for Subaru to bring out an all-new version of this unique sport sedan. The all new 2010 Legacy will be appearing at the New York Auto Show this month and Subaru has just released some official photos and info on the new car....

My father was a bit of a car nut. He introduced me to the term "kicking the tires" at the local dealerships. We weren't a particularly brand loyal family either. Dad cycled through Chevy V8's and even an '86 Corolla (At the time this was the new hotness!). (The image is from a Toyota brochure circa 1980's, and isn't the exact car that he had) My first car was the epitome of reliably bland. A 1990 Toyota Tercel (Thank wikipedia for the image of exactly what my lump of...
