Some of you might remember that when I moved back to the US from Japan last spring, one of the first things I did was pick up a '97 Mazda Miata as weekend toy. I did a few little things to it, like installing a set of SSR MkIII's, but in the end the car ended up spending most of its life gathering dust at my house....

As an old saying goes, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. I'm not sure who coined the phrase, but in a day of twin turbo sports cars and muscle cars that can reach felony-like speeds in a matter of seconds, those words have never sounded better.Although fast cars are great, there's something wonderful about a car built for the fun of driving above all else. The 2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of those cars. ...

With fall fast approaching, that means it's time to once again start looking towards the auto show season and the concept cars that come with it. One of the concepts that's already been revealed is the Mazda MX-5 superlight concept for the Frankfurt Show. As it's name suggests, this car takes the standard MX-5 and strips away "excess" weight , doing away with things like a windshield or top. The resulting car is a unique creation that's one my favorite concept cars in recent memory - the raw spirit of the MX-5 turned up to eleven. Hopefully it comes with a pair of leather driving gloves and some goggles... -Mike Garrett...

Last night after waiting in line for an hour at The Boiling Crab in Alhambra CA (extremely worth the wait, BTW), I decided to meet up with my friends to check out this Miata meet in the City of Industry. My friend Paul from OC (the owner of a super cool white Miata with excellent stance) told me I should go, as there were all sorts of people talking on the Miata forum about how they'd be slamming their cars super low just for this meet. Low cars? I'm in. After all, it's Mazda Month.....

Look at what I came across while surfing the intertubes! This has got to be one of the most stylish daily driven track weapons I've ever seen. The folks over at www.tripleZoom.com have a full feature on the car and the driver, and I must say, it's a great read. The owner, Chris Lee, has some of the rarest Miata parts on this continent. Not the least of which are those massive flares. Am I alone in loving "Dampa Chi" the little Tein mascot??? Of course, he needs those flares to fit...
