Today we got word of a new motorsport event that will go down this summer near Virginia City, Nevada. The Spectre 341 Challenge is a hillclimb event being put on Spectre Performance in the spirit of the old Virginia City Hillclimb. This no-holds barred run down a closed mountain road is open to everything from pro-touring muscle cars to tuner cars. They must, however, be street-registered vehicles. More details are on the way, but it's sounding like quite the event and we are planning on making the trip up to Nevada to check it out. For now, you can find more, including the rules and entry info on the official event website. -Mike Garrett...

Some more big news for Formula Drift today. Falken Tire has just announced the latest addition to their drift team for 2010 - Justin Pawlak. Justin will be driving an ASD-prepped 2010 Ford Mustang similar to Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s - making for two Mustangs on the Falken team. This is huge news for Team Falken, and a big move for JTP, who impressed last season in the Bergenholtz RX8. The 2010 season just keeps sounding better and better... Winter is finished and hibernation is over, whatever Punxatwany Phil has to say on the subject. At least in my world that is. This week down in Spain the Grand Prix Circus set out their stall for 2010. In Florida the Rolex 24 has been and gone, next up is the beginning of the NASCAR season. Best of all is the news in from the city some 120 miles West of Paris, Le Mans. This week they have announced those lucky devils who have been invited to the 2010 edition of the French classic. Andy B posted a...

Some very sad news out of Japan today. Veteran D1 driver Atsushi Kuroi has passed away after injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Kuroi was popular not just in Japan, but in all the countries where he drove. Anyone who's seen him drive knows the kind of talent this man had behind the wheel of his Nissan One-Via. Besides being known as a great driver, he also made a name for himself with his River Side tuning shop in the Osaka area. I feel very fortunate having the opportunity to see him in both the US and Japan. Our thoughts are with his family and his friends. -Mike Garrett...

At the end of TAS on friday I quickly headed to the Sun-eishobo stand, the publishers of Option magazine, as well as tons of other motoring related titles. I had to pick up a Hyper Rev book/catalogue for an Impreza-crazy friend back home in Italy and as I went to pay I noticed these two postcards on the counter. They are ads for a new magazine that will be launched at the end of the month called Hachiroku Damashii which in English would translate as "The Soul of Hachiroku." The illustration...

Word on the street is that Schumacher is definitely coming back to F1 next year at the wheel of the new Mercedes team. Several news sites are now reporting that the deal has been signed and will be announced shortly. It's worth remembering that Michael used to be a member of the factory Mercedes Sports car team in 1990-91 so there is some history between these two entities. ...

Honda just released this picture of their 2010 SuperGT entry. The Honda HSV-10 GT will replace the Honda NSX and is powered by a 3.4 liter V8 with more than 500bhp. It will debut at the SuperGT opener on the 20 th of March, but I'm sure there will be more info released by Honda before that. This shot already looks promising, and I'm just glad Honda continues their efforts in the SuperGT Series. Man, how hardcore does this car look... -Jeroen Willemsen Spotted on Autoblog

If you live in Australia, or happen to be planning a trip there next year, mark your calendars for May 21st and May 22nd, 2010. That's when the World Time Attack Challenge will be held at Eastern Creek International Raceway in Sydney, organized by the creators of the Australian Superlap events and sponsored by Yokohama Tire. The competitor list already includes some of Japan's best time attack cars, and it will surely grow as the event draws closer. So, which cars can you expect to see?...

It has been a painful year for many people and companies at every level. Many companies have seen massive restructing, administration, closeures and bail outs. Unfortunately there have been many casualties and many people will be having a torrid Christmas out of work. So spare a though for anyone affected by this whole mess. Sadly, another casualty was announced today. GM has announced, Svenska Aeroplan AB, otherwise known as ‘Saab’ will be no more. Despite a number of buy-out discussions...

Over the weekend we heard unconfirmed rumors that Chris Rado had driven his Scion tC into the 6's at Pomona, making it the first front-drive drag car ever to do so. There has been a little discrepancy regarding the time, but I just got off the phone with Chris who gave me the the quick rundown of what happened. With the car running faster than ever, and a solid coating of rubber on the track Chris laid down an astonishing 6.97 second ET during eliminations. Unfortunately the incredible traction that the car had off the line caused the timing beams to misread the 60-foot time, technically making the ET "unofficial". Nonetheless, the complete 1/4 mile time is still legit by all accounts. The drag racing was just part of Rado's wild week, which included record breaking time attack runs at both Buttonwillow and Fontana. He'll be posting a blog here soon with the story in his own words. -Mike Garrett...

Even though Formula D has come to an end for the year and is a huge relief for many, the next five days are full of suspense, insanity and excitement for me, as I get ready to introduce my dream that will become a reality in a big way at SEMA. A new generation of Mustang will be introduced to the world - the Mustang RTR which will be a dealer-installed performance and appearance package available at select dealers in 2010. Official introduction to be posted here next Tuesday. If you will be at SEMA...

Just a couple weeks ago I posted a photo of a previous gen Accord Wagon from Japan, pondering how cool it would be if Honda decided to bring the new Accord Tourer to North America as the TSX Wagon. Perhaps someone from Honda was reading? Acura has just announced the TSX Sport Wagon will be joining the lineup for 2011. The car most likely will look very similar to the Euro/Japanese market Accord Tourer pictured up above. Hmmm...I wonder if it will be time to replace my daily driver come 2011? -Mike Garrett...
