It was a fun job to do, putting my best photos in 1 post even though my contribution isn't as big as some of the other Speedhunters. Many of the cars I shot where diesels, and you guys didn't always like this but this a dominant scenario in the Benelux scene. And the showcasing of car scenes from around the world is what Speedhunters makes so special. ...

"...there was a moment of infidelity. I cheated on you. I met a camera that was a bit older, more mature, and had much more experience under its belt. I was drawn to it...." I woke up suddenly. Drenched. Cold sweat enveloped my body as I shivered uncontrollably. I kept telling myself that it was all just a dream but the words still echoed in my mind; repeating itself over and over. It was just a dream, Linhbergh. ...

BMW Show RWYB, Santa Pod – September The handy thing about a sportwagon is that there's more space for spare tyres. There's something fantastically gladiatorial about the 'Run What Ya Brung' sessions at Santa Pod drag strip, home to the big car club shows in the UK. You want the applause of the crowd? Light 'em up in the burn-out area. Jap Show RWYB, Santa Pod – June It's all so easy when you sign up to take a run down the quarter mile: it's damn cheap and...

FIA GT3 Silverstone – May For me racing should equal excitement and danger: preferably with plenty of fire - at the back of the car, I hasten to add. There's something primal about over-running cars as they brake into corners: exhausts popping and spitting flame. Some cars do it more than others, depending on engine config, and you know that those are the ones to keep an eye on. All the Aston Martins in the GT3 race at Silverstone in May spat flame as they reached the apex of the Abbey...

How's everyone doing? Enjoying the holiday time? Hiding away from the festive season? Taking time to recharge your batteries? Personally speaking, I've had one foot on the brake pedal for the past few days as I attempt to get some much needed rest. 2010 will be kicking off with a bang next week so I'm aggressively doing as little as possible for the next few days.... So why am I working on a Speedhunters article then! Ridiculaaas... Oh well... Let's take one last look back at my 2009...

British Touring Cars Race 3, Brands Hatch – April Touring cars are back in business in the UK. Crowd numbers are back up to the glory days of the Super Tourers of the '90s, the drivers have proper charisma (okay, maybe it is a bit pantomime occasionally) and although the cars might not seem outwardly that impressive the racing is what makes the series. I've been lucky to live near Brands Hatch in the south-east of England all my life, but I've never tired of watching cars tumble...

Dearest Camera, We've only known each other for a little less than a year now, but what a time together it has been, no? In those few months we've both had our fair share of getting blasted by tire shards, tire smoke, and countless beautiful sunrises and sunsets. And I have to be honest with you; there have been others before you and you're not my first light collecting device I've been with. The others were mere flings. You on the other hand, are more than just a fling. We have traveled the country, learned so much about each other, and our emotional roots for each other have dug deep. We may have had a fantastic time this year, but there is so much more growing to be done in the coming year.......

Are we really just two weeks from the start of 2010? It may not feel like it, but indeed it's time to cross another year off the list. Over the past few days I've started putting together the my rough 2010 schedule, and it should be another awesome year. But before we move into 2010 we've got to finish our look back at 2009. Here's my final batch of '09 Photos of the Year. ...

Nurburgring 24 Hours, Nurburgring, Germany Carpe Diem or more fully Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero, should be the guiding principle for all photographers. For those of you who paid as little attention to Latin lessons as I did all those years ago, I will translate, "Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future." What is he on about now, I hear you say? Well you only get fleeting opportunities to make what one of my writer colleagues, Marcus Schurig, calls magic....

Most of the time I'm so busy traveling around shooting events and writing posts, that I forget just how many incredible things I've been able to see while working as a Speedhunter. That's why I love these Photos of the Year posts, not only do you guys get to see the highlights of the year, but WE also get the chance to look back and reflect on a year automotive life from around the world. OK, let's get on with my second set of 2009's greatest hits......

Aston Martin DB4GT Shoot, Goodwood, UK Sometimes you just have to stop and look at the details to really get a clear picture. This knock off wheel nut on a fantastic car with tons of history and heritage. It wears the scuffs and scars of the years with pride as a battle honour. This is a real SpeedHunters' moment. Festival of Speed, Goodwood House, Goodwood, UK This was one of the cool things that I got involved in this past year, a run or two at speed up the Goodwood Hill in a C8 Spyker. I'll...

Le Mans 24 Hours, Le Mans, France One of the best things about long distance races is that you get the chance to stretch your legs, photographically speaking. You can try all manner of strange stuff, sometimes it works, sometimes not, it is largely subjective whether you or anyone else like the results or not. At least it is trying to capture the essence of the moments that have just been witnessed. Anything rather than endless stream of head on shots with long lens on P for Professional mode, Auto...

When Rod asked me to put together my best photos from 2009 i really didn't know where to start. With thousands of images to choose from i decided to keep it simple and choose shots that may not be technically perfect but mean something to me and remind me of some of the great times throughout 2009. 2009 has been quite a year for me - one that's included a move overseas, a few new cars, and then a move from California's Central Valley to the car culture epicenter that is Los Angeles. After spending the first couple months of the year in Japan, I packed up my things and returned stateside just in time for the start of the '09 season. There are times when I miss Japan greatly, but I've had an absolute blast Speedhunting here in the good old US of A. For the first my part of my photos of the year, here are some shots I've taken on both sides of the Pacific this year....

Ok let's continue our tour of the best 2009 photos from your's truly. Although I really don't consider myself a photographer by trade, I've really enjoyed the challenge of picking up "the camera" this year. When Speedhunters was being planned out as a creative project, I wasn't signed up to shoot photos, but it makes sense as i do have a particular view of automotive culture that needs to be communicated on these pages. What better way to do this than to take photos...

2009 has been a difficult year. Graduating from college to enter a world where no work is available has been tough. Watching others struggle on in the same vein, was quite disheartening. I'm sure a lot of you guys will share similar experiences but I hope that when you look back, like me, those everyday niggles cannot compare with hanging out with your mates, bearing the burden together. It might be financially tough, but once the craic is had, it's always worth it. I wouldn't change...

John Brooks has already started the proceedings for our photographic review of 2009 so I thought I'd also do my part and start rummaging through my own snaps from the past 12 months. You'll need to remember I've only been shooting photos for just over one year now and am rather inexperienced a photographer compared to some of my fellow Speedhunters. That said, I've shot a lot of video in my time, so part of the exercise for the year has been to learn how to translate my own personal...

Le Mans 24 Hours, Le Mans, France Whatever the reverse of altitude sickness is, (the Bends?) then these three musketeers must have had it bad on the podium at this year's Les Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans. TK, in particular, is more accustomed to the dizzy heights of the top spot having graced that exclusive piece of turf an incredible EIGHT times. So third place was something of a come down. How else do you explain why he would spend his time pointing out an old photographer in the pen that the...
