These past few days, I've been digging through the year's photo archives and I've enjoyed the trip down memory lane. As great as that nostalgic trip was, I found myself feeling a bit bad as I've forgotten some of the photo shoots I've been on. When you're in the grind of going to shoot after shoot, often the photographic events start to blur and blend into one another. But if there was one shoot that stood out as memorable and unique, it was when I spent a morning with Vaughn...

Where to start? That was the question that lingered in my mind when it came time to write up the feature on Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s Team NFS RTR-X. Unlike a lot of the cars we feature here on Speedhunters, the RTR-X is something that many of you are already familiar with - whether you followed Vaughn's build posts, saw the car at an event, or even drove it virtually in an NFS game. ...

Need for Speed The Run starts hitting shelves today - the European launch is this Friday - and there's some aspects to the game that we thought you'd find interesting. The Run features actors Sean Faris and Christina Hendricks (yes, of Mad Men fame), so it made sense for actual cars to be included too. Rod, Carl, Andy and I were entrusted with coming up with a short list of real-world cars that would gel with The Run's cross-crountry street racing theme. And I think we came up with a...

What up Speedhunters! Just before SEMA, the Hot Rod Magazine team came out to shoot the Mustang RTR-X and I had to break editor Mike Finnegan into drifting properly. Mike is damn cool, obviously a car nut, and he also races insane jet boats. Like many, he was one of those guys that has seen drifting and likes watching it, but didn’t really “get it”. It was my job to represent and let him see why we love the sport so much. Back to back 100mph+ entries in the Team Need for Speed RTR-X and my Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang was just what he needed to fall in love, mission accomplished! Check out this video the Hot Rod team made and see how much fun we had out at El Toro!

During SEMA we got our hands on the first prototypes of the Megabloks Need for Speed Ford Mustang RTR-X. The 1:38 RTR-X toy includes interchangeable glow-in-the-dark rims and elongated velocity stacks, Coincidentally, the '69 Mustang contains 69 parts! It's quite amazing to see the RTR-X in toy form. It wasn't too long ago that you, our Speedhunters readers, were involved in turning this from an idea into an actual car. The Megabloks RTR-X is part of a Need for Speed collaboration, which...

No doubt you followed the build of the Team Need for Speed RTR-X, which was a monumental project for not only Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Speedhunters, but also the many dedicated people who brought it to fruition. Team Need for Speed has just released this video by Will Roegge which provides some insight into how the RTR-X project came about.

After almost exactly a year from its conception, I was able to take the RTR-X on a maiden voyage. Willow Springs was the location we chose for the flogging to commence. There has been a ton of work by an incredible team to get the car to this point and I simply could not wait to get behind the wheel of our creation. While the following pictures show that the RTR-X is obviously not a "trailer queen", it did roll up in my new hauler. She does enjoy getting her beauty rest on the lower deck...

As many of you already know, the RTR-X hit the dyno last week at and put down solid numbers: 401 horses and 378 FT/LBS of torque. The Ford 5.0L V8 and those numbers were designed to do one thing, to burn through a set of tires as quickly as possible. Yesterday, at Willow Springs International Raceway, Vaughn Gittin Jr. did exactly that. JR along with the guys from Twins Turbo Motorsports had their first test session with the car. As you can see, in these photos, the test session went quite well....

After one year, a lot of hard work by some amazing people, and a few curveballs, the Team Need for Speed RTR-X is officially ALIVE!!! The Twins Turbo crew buttoned up all of the tedious final assembly, MoTeC put some finishing touches on the engine wiring side of things, and Shane T. came and worked his tuning magic to take control of this Ford 5.0L Boss 302 motor, controlling all four cams individually with the MoTeC M800 and getting it to rev so clean and sound like the beast you hear in the video! I am very impressed with the 401 HP and 378 FT/LBS TQ to the rear wheels he was able to make safe enough for my foot on 91 octane fuel. It should be amazing to drive as it is, and pretty insane with race fuel/E85 and a set of cams (in the future).

I will be testing the car for the first time at the end of the month and needless to say, I can't wait! I am looking forward to sharing the results with everyone. Huge thanks to everyone that worked so hard to make this dream build come to reality, and thanks to everyone for being so involved from the beginning, especially the Speedhunters readers.

At the beginning of March, we hinted at a special surprise for this month, which was an exclusive meet to coincide with the launch of SHIFT2 UNLEASHED. So for those in the SoCal area, be sure to clear your schedules on March 26th! NFS and Speedhunters have collaborated with Modified Magazine, Super Street, Import Tuner and eurotuner and will be holding the meet at their HQ in El Segundo. You'll also get the chance to experience SHIFT2 UNLEASHED before the game's release on two D-Box driving...

As some of you may know, I was very involved in the original Need For Speed SHIFT and this year I had the amazing opportunity to increase my involvement for the release of SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED. I'm a frequent Sim player, and I truly believe that having a proper virtual driving experience translates to a shorter learning curve when the opportunity arrives to hit the track in real life. When I first played a beta of the original SHIFT game, I had a few sheets of notes and changes that I felt needed...

Since my last update, the entire crew over at Twins Turbo have been working real hard transforming the Team Need For Speed RTR-X from looking the part at SEMA to being ready to hit the track\street. We are now coming down the home stretch and it is almost time to take the RTR-X out on it's maiden voyage! I plan to break it in the right way; there will be no 6000 RPM clutch-kicks, absolutely no yanks on the E-brake, I will never mash the right pedal to the floor, and I promise it will never touch...

I know it's been a while since I last updated everyone on the progress of the RTR-X and I would love to blame it on a long vacation in the Carribean, but unfortunately that's not the case! ;) Sad truth is I finally am just getting my head above water from the insanity and aftermath of winning the Formula Drift Championship and SEMA fun, amongst many other fun things going on. It has been flattering getting messages and emails with interest to see more updates. The love for the RTR-X that...

The nature of my day-to-day job here at Electronic Arts means I don’t get to as many events as other members of the team, but I’ve been very fortunate in the events I did attend. Highlight of the year for me was my trip to Le Mans, to support John Brooks in our extensive coverage of the race. We managed to publish 20 articles on the event, which is quite an achievement. So, onto my small selection. Above : Tom Kristensen, Drivers Parade, Le Mans Town centre, France I’m a big sports...

Most of the time at SEMA is was a little hard to get a clear shot of the car. There were just too many people all around the RTR-X all the time!... OK moving on... Are you still happily reading through our SEMA coverage? Such is the scale of SEMA, it literally takes three of us to showcase all of the possible content. I'd also say that the various Speedhunters have slightly different point of views when it comes to our vision of automobile design and car culture. So we may walk the same lines of cars and gravitate to different machines. Or we may have different things to say about the exact same cars :> I'll start out this SEMA story with some shots...

What a long day it's been. I left my house in LA this morning at 430am, bound for day one of the 2010 SEMA Show. After a slight delay, (thanks Nevada Highway Patrol!), I arrived at the Las Vegas Convention Center just in time to pick up my badge and head to the Ford booth, where Vaughn Gittin Jr. would be debuting the RTR-X Mustang....

As you are reading this, the Mustang RTR-X has just debuted at the Ford booth during the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Since we know most of you can't be at the Las Vegas Convention Center to see the car in person, we've done the next best thing and uploaded a desktop wallpaper for you. I snapped this photo yesterday morning, minutes before the car was loaded up for transport to Vegas. Head to the Desktops section right now for widescreen and standard versions! Much more to come on the RTR-X and the SEMA Show. -Mike Garrett...

A little bit more to show on the Exclusive Teaser for today, including the controversial(!) overfenders and the wheels. Linhbergh captured this on Friday morning at 6am, before the front lip spoiler was fitted. Since then the build has come along way and will be on show on the Ford stand at SEMA, which runs Tuesday-Friday. The car will be be unveiled on the Ford Stand on Tuesday at 10.50am. - Andy Blackmore Speedhunters' RTR-X Build Progress

Hope you are having a good weekend. Here is the second Teaser image of the Team Need for Speed Mustang RTR-X. With the assistance of BASF and the Auto-Explosion paint shop we have achived a very strong 'Team Need for Speed' graphic on the hood, all in paint. The easy option would have been to lay Green and Satin Grey Vinyl on the hood….but we have higher standards than that. The RTR-X will be launched on Tuesday, at 10.50AM on the Ford stand, at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. If you are...
