A few days ago, we received an email from Daryl Scott, a photographer from Seymour, Indiana correcting a recently published story on the "Steam Punked" hot rod I recently shot at SEMA. It turns out that I had incorrectly credited my favourite SEMA 2011 build, it was actually constructed by Slaughterhouse Customs and is called The Jackal. I hereby stand corrected!...

It's said that some 100 thousand people attend SEMA each year and I'll wager a guess, that the vast majority of them are not there to gawk at cars. No, most people go to SEMA to do business: to showcase new products, find new business partners and network, network, network. Sure everyone loves a well constructed customized car, but the main reason the aftermarket industry come to Vegas has more to do with business development and growing your business card collection than anything else. So...

It's likely that Henry Ford would roll over in his grave, if he could see what people were doing to his beloved Model As. It makes you wonder what people will be doing to Honda Civic shells eighty years from now. Transformed into flying cars? Recycling bins? Teleportation pods? This 1930 Model A sedan has been so severely recreated as a zombified Hot Rod, it's hard to see much of the original machine. But I think this is the appeal! It's a great example of the Steam Punk styled creativity...

At last year's SEMA Show, we saw a ratty, yet modernized Chrysler wagon known as the Derelict. The Chrysler was built by Icon (the same shop behind the Bronco posted yesterday), and this year at SEMA, they showed another Derelict - this one built out of a 1952 Chevy Business Coupe....

Some of you may recall, the recent Art of the Badge articles, fellow Speedhunter Jonathan Moore wrote on the subject of classic automotive emblems at recent Goodwood Revival. These articles had a bit of a shockwave effect on the rest of the Speedhunters team, as it made us rethink a little bit about how we approach event coverage. While we'll always give you a high level overview of an event, Jonathan reminded us that it's also refreshing to showcase specific details across a wide variety...

In just a couple days a group of Speedhunters will be converging on Las Vegas to cover one of the largest and most influential auto events of the year - the SEMA Show.
Before we make our way to Sin City, here's just a small taste of what we can expect to see in the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center next week....

Time for my final review of SEMA. I hope these reviews have given you a good insight into this huge trade show. Back to the cars. The Honda stand was simple and low budget (hey, Green carpet, we have a stand!), but had a great variety of CR-Z’s from various builders including in-house 'Honda Design' (Red CR-Z) and Honda Performance Development, better known for their ALMS racecars. This was the first time I had seen the new Honda CR-Z in the flesh and I have to admit, I was impressed...

We hope you are enjoying our extensive coverage of SEMA. This time around, I'll focus on some of the European and Exotic vehicles at the show. There is always a lack of European cars at SEMA, this year was no exception. Despite this, there were a few highlights. This always had a crowd around it. A BMW E92 Vorsteiner 'GTRS3' widebody was covered in Satin Silver Vinyl by Waptivo. This clean M3 sedan was subtle for a SEMA show........until you opened the hood. How about a G-Power supercharger...

At the SEMA show, you see lots of brand new customized vehicles, and lots of heavily modified classics from the '50s, '60s, and '70s.
What you don't see are a lot of cars from the 1990's and early 2000's. That's a big part of the reason I was drawn to this E38 BMW 7-Series. ...

As I walked around the massive SEMA Show, I kept my usual eye out for Spotlight-worthy cars. There's never a shortage of these at the show, and I happened to find a few which fit right into our current Haulers and Sedans theme.
This '52 Chrysler Town and Country known as the "Derelict" is certainly one of those....

Can I get your attention away from watching the F1 proceedings in Abu Dhabi to take another look at the RTR-X?... I know, I know I've overstating the point, but I just love this car so much!... can't... stop... blogging... about... it... send... help.... Most of the time at SEMA is was a little hard to get a clear shot of the car. There were just too many people all around the RTR-X all the time!... OK moving on... Here's a car I found to be quite intersesting. It mixes of elements of...

Are you still happily reading through our SEMA coverage? Such is the scale of SEMA, it literally takes three of us to showcase all of the possible content. I'd also say that the various Speedhunters have slightly different point of views when it comes to our vision of automobile design and car culture. So we may walk the same lines of cars and gravitate to different machines. Or we may have different things to say about the exact same cars :> I'll start out this SEMA story with some shots...

The SEMA Show is huge! In recent years, the parking lots and even delivery areas have been used for displays. In this post, I'm going to concentrate on the cars outside. The Source Interlink Group had a diverse display of project cars, located between the halls. I particularly liked this vibrant Mazda RX-4. Great contrast with the Orange and Black. Under the hood lives a 2JZ! The famous 'Project X' also reappeared this year. Since its debut in Popular Hot Rodding magazine over 40 years...

Sorry guys you haven't heard anything from me about SEMA. I'm in high production on a video game project and haven't had any time to write an article until now. So if you don't mind, my SEMA coverage will be trickling over the course of the next week or so. I thought I'd start out with a quick look at a Mercury lead sled that was sitting pretty as part of the line of cars displayed in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Regular Speedhunters readers will know that I have...

Following on from Mike Garrett’s great coverage of SEMA, I’ll follow up with the first of my general observations at the show. One of my favorite cars at the show was this 1970 Camaro by Spectre. Originally purchased on eBay from the Chicago Police(!) this car became a development workhouse for Spectre before a full rebuild recently. A new LS1 power plant was sourced. I love the bodywork changes which includes Carbon nose, hood and trunk. I could live with that! Staying with the Camaro...

Early November is always a crazy time of year - with SEMA, the VIP Festival, and Super Lap Battle all happening within a week of each other.
On that note, it's time for me to move right along and wrap up my coverage of last week's SEMA Show. Here's one last general look at the show floor....

One of the most talked about vehicles at this year's SEMA show wasn't a crazy show car or a thousand horsepower race machine - it was this understated '61 Mercedes Benz 190SL.
Displayed in the BASF booth, this 190SL packs that timeless Mercedes Benz style and modern power into one package....

Well, I just got back to Los Angeles after three calorie-burning days of walking the SEMA show.
There's a lot to cover, so I'm not going to waste any time. Here's another selection of photos from Vegas....
