Recently Rod Chong tipped me off on a rather crazy drift car build that was going down in Sweden. This build story though. has a very unusal ending. We'll get to that in a moment, but first let's take a look at this wild machine....

Whilst searching through my archives for a photograph, I got sidetracked by some old Prodrift photographs from 2008. Although it has only been three years, it's amazing to see how far both of these drivers have come along. With Eric O'Sullivan now driving for Gardella Racing and Frederic being one of our own Team Need for Speed guys, I don't think either driver could have envisioned then where they are now. I wonder will we get to see a repeat of this battle during the 2011 Formula D...

Speedhunters reader Robert Larsson took this picture during a drag meet at a former military airbase in Sweden.
After being a favorite spot for illegal drag gatherings, the first legal event was held at the base back in July.
Looks quite a variety of machinery!
You can see more of Robert's photos here.

Speedhunters reader and drifter Mikael Svensson sent us this picture of his BMW E36 competing a Swedish drift event over the weekend. Mikael and his four-door Bimmer would end up finishing second in the event.
Nice work Mikael!

Euro flavour and supercar style may well be what automotive modification dreams are made of - but a 360bhp Volvo S60 for half the price? Well that's just pure final fantasy. SCREAMING around bends and ripping across high-speed sweepers are all part of the fun before wide-open throttle down The Green Hell's Antoniusbuche straight, but when an engine goes pop there's the ensuing urgency for many to get their motors 'back on track' fast. When 29-year-old Belgian Koen Lauwereys had...

This car will race in the Camaro Cup in Sweden it will replace the older Z28 that has been used since 1999. The car uses a tube frame chassis made by HOWE Racing in the US. Ohlins suspension and Michelin tires will make sure the car handles like a true racecar. It is funny to see that this real American muscle car will be raced on the other side of the ocean. Check this Wikipedia link for more info about the Camaro Cup. -Jeroen Willemsen Spotted on Vizualtech

Most of us have some place of work we need to be at every single day of the week. This daily ritual normally involves some kind of commute through automotive or human traffic, a life at a business with your co-workers, eating similar kinds of food at familar places and then another commute through the hordes to your chosen place of residence. For most people, this pattern is relatively unchanging from month to month, year to year. I personally find it a bit of a challenge to maintain a zest for life...

I don't know what it is with the Swedes and their engine transplants. I just got these pictures from an event called Bilsport Performance & Custom Show , held in Jönköping, Sweden. As you can see, the show was full of quality builds and crazy engine setups. There were many unusual and unexpected cars present, like this carbon fiber Saab. I know the Saab as a family car, but when I look at this example, I don't think it will be used as such. This thing looks out of this world...

Volvo may not be part of the VW Audi Group, but this drift-tuned 740 from Sweden was too cool not to post. The widened steel wheels match perfectly with the Volvo's boxy styling don't they?
I can only imagine how fun this car would be on a snowy Swedish road...
The world needs more Volvo drift cars like this one.

Wait, a four-door drift car project that doesn't have a Toyota or Nissan badge on it? That's right.
This E36 3-series BMW is being built by Swedish drifter Mikael Svensson for use in the Nordic Drifting Series. Mikael and the Swedrift team are hard at work finishing up the car, which is going to be powered by a 900hp turbocharged M3 engine. The four-door E36 still has a ways to go before it's track ready, but the team is planning on a "clean" exterior look that includes a set of fender flares modified from a Mk.1 VW Golf. Mikael has been building and racing BMW's for 20 years, so we can't wait to see what the finished product looks like....

Not too long ago Golf came out with a prototype called the Golf GTI W12, it featured a twelve cylinder six liter engine with 650bhp capable of 325km/h. But long before that, a Swedish tuner called Dahlback made something even more spectacular. Their basis was a Golf Mk4 which they completely stripped so they could start with a blank canvas. The car started life in 1998 and has progressed ever since. Let's start at the most obvious, the exterior. Dahlback went to VW motorsport for a complete widebody...
