I'm currently sitting in a tiny hotel room in London, UK trying to stay awake long enough to type up this blog post. It was only yesterday that I left Dubai, but already the experience of London-town is moving front and center in my mind. So I'd better get this post done while the memories of Dubai are still relatively fresh. ...

This is going to be a busy few days on Speedhunters.com. John Brooks is already in Birmingham, UK getting set for the Autosport show, Dino is gearing up for the Tokyo Auto Salon and a group of us have converged on Dubai to film and photograph the Dubai 24 hour race. Some of you will remember last year we had a Porsche entered in the race which took fifth overall. We're back with the car again this year, and this time we'll be will be producing a film of our experiences at the event. Arriving...

If you were wondering what video I was talking about in my Retrospective about Taniguchi, this is it, shot by a couple of friends of his that really struggled to keep up with him!

It was hard to pick a second D1 driver to do a small retrospective on, following the post on Ueo's career as a professional drifter. There are just so many great drivers in Japan to choose from, but after much deliberation it just had to be Nobuteru Taniguchi. Taniguchi is one driver I have great respect for, having managed to build a racing career with his own two hands, starting off in small one make racing sereis making it all the way to Super GT. In fact as I write this he is preparing to...

As you have been seeing with all of our Sebring coverage over the past few days, this past weekend was a big one for motorsport. While the ALMS season launched stateside, across the pacific the 2009 Super GT season also kicked off with a rain-soaked race at Okayama International Circuit. The big story last year in Super GT was of course the dominance of the GT-R in the GT500 class, and a lot of the diehard Nissan fans were anxious to see how the GT-R's would do in their second year of competition....

If you were looking for HKS at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, you may have been disappointed to find that the company didn't have much of a presence this year. Like a lot of companies, HKS was forced to cut back on their TAS showing due to the economic turndown in Japan and around the world. They might not have had a proper booth at TAS 2009,but a few of HKS cars did manage to find their way into the show. For example, on display outside of the Makuhari Messe near the makeshift D1 course, was this rather unassuming white HKS-built Lancer Evolution X....

As I write this, I'm sitting on the floor of my furniture-less apartment taking a short break from the hustle and bustle of moving out. My posts this week will be a bit less frequent than usual, but I thought you might like this high res desktop wallpaper of the HKS JZS161 Aristo plus a few other HKS cars making cameo appearances in the background. Widescreen and standard versions are available now in the Desktops section. Stay tuned for more interesting stories from my HKS visit soon. OK, back to moving... -Mike Garrett...

Less than a week from now I'll be back home in California eating at my favorite burger joint for first time in nearly a year and a half, but right now I can't think about that stuff too much as I'm trying to focus on keeping the posts coming while at the same time helping the wife with moving preparations and last minute packing. For this post, I want to quickly share with you something I spotted last week when I was visiting HKS. As Saitou-san was showing me around the place, we walked by one the company's many R&D garages where I caught a peak of this red S15 Silvia sitting within. ...

As you probably gathered from the teaser photo I posted the other day, I recently took a trip to the famous headquarters and factory of HKS, which is located near the base of Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. Japan's clogged highways made for a long drive out to Shizuoka from Tsukuba, but It was more than worth it to experience the home of what's probably Japan's biggest tuning company. I'll be posting more about my visit to the HQ itself later on, but right now I want talk about the the JZS161 Toyota Aristo drift car which was designed for HKS's favorite racing driver, Nobuteru Taniguchi....

NOB Taniguchi and Manabu Orido have jobs that most of us would kill for - getting paid to drive some of the coolest race cars and tuner cars in the world. So what do they drive home after a long day at the track? For Taniguchi it's a plush Nissan Elgrand van with Vertex aero parts and Advan wheels, while Orido usually rolls in his JZS161 Aristo or blinged out Hummer H2. Last month I spotted both their vehicles in the paddock at Fuji Speedway and thought it would make a cool picture. And now a quick trivia question. Does anyone know what Tarzan Yamada's daily driver is? I think the answer will surprise you....

All this week, I've been carefully packing up all my belongings into big boxes because I'm moving at the end of this month. While everybody else on the team is busy Speedhunting, I've been busy house-hunting as well, and let me tell you... Speedhunting is definitely 100x more fun! I can't seem to find a place central to LA that can accomodate the Cipher Garage Collection of cars, good offset wheels, rare steering wheels, horn buttons, transmissions, engine parts, LSDs, die casts,...

I'm concentrating on "D to D: Drift & Driving Entertainment Magazine" in this post. I've found that there is a great deal of technical depth in D to D. What would likely be a paragraph blurb on a new intercooler from Greddy/Trust becomes a 2 page spread with temperature graphs by RPM, etc. The very first thing I noticed about these JDM mags is that even though we in North America think we run a lot of advertising in our print media... We got NOTHIN on japan. With a car culture...
