My hometown is a strange little place. With a population of around 45,000 people it's relatively small, but the amount of car culture that is hiding just beneath the surface here is something else. It's home to a host of beautiful custom machinery that you probably never know existed. Thankfully, my friend Neil Shen, owner and creator of the fantastic Juicebox blog, has an amazing sixth sense for seeking these cars out. Take this two door zenki Toyota Levin for example. Being rebuilt from...

What's better than having one Golf MKI GTI? Two of course. Tim Verbeek, who owns the white Golf we saw earlier, also has this black example in his garage. While the white Golf was more of a restoration project, this is meant to be a cool fun toy for the weekend. The exterior features deep black paint with some chrome accents. The door handles have also been polished. Instead of the red strip on the original GTI grill, Tim has replaced it with a chrome piece. But maybe even more interesting is...

Time for a look at all the parked cars in Reifnitz. It was the place where the manufacturers like Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda had their own stand. Although I'm not sure if I could call it a ‘stand' because they were huge and contained almost every model they produce. I especially liked what Audi did. They had a closed off area where you could grab something to eat or drink and look at cars they rolled onto a stage. This Golf MKI was parked under the Volkswagen arch that crossed the street...

Here's one final spotlight from the VW Fanatics show. At a first glance, it looks like a nice clean, understated build. The Golf has good stance and wheels, but I'm sure a lot of people at the event were walking right past without noticing. The car has been sprayed in Audi Daytona gray- the only right color for this car in my opinion. Again the bumpers have been shaved together with the trunk to remove any protruding items. The trunk came from the US version of the mk3, so it has a smaller...

Since our theme this month is misfits and mavericks, I figured I'd quickly post about a car that played an important role in my teenage years - a '72 Ford Pinto. Yep, a Ford Pinto , the car that's infamous for erupting into a ball of fire with a slight tap of the rear bumper. While this hot rodded Pinto was about as shoddy as it gets, it's turbocharged engine swap also made it one of the funnest cars ever....

It's always interesting to see how passion can push people to create very unique cars, and this Miata from Italy is the perfect example. The owner and avid reader of Speedhunters, Filippo Pirini, has been working on his little Mazda for 3 years and plans to have the car ready in the next year or so. Filippo will compete in one of the Italian drift championships so has carefully chosen every modification to help him create a nice set-up for drifting. The NB was stripped down and stiffened up thanks...

While visiting Essen this year I stumbled upon this Porsche 997 Turbo on the SpeedART stand. I started taking pictures right away but was approached by friendly lady who invited me inside the roped off stand for some better pictures. But once inside stand, I found it a bit cramped and had a hard time to taking clear shots of the car. So I walked up to SpeedART's PR lady again and asked if I could visit their factory next year, you know, in order to get better photos of their tuned Porsche. The...

This fresh looking Golf MK4 was spotted at the recent Westside Show in the UK. You see a lot of rims that come from higher end cars ending up on cars in the VW community. This time the owner of this Golf got himself a set of wheels from the Porsche Turbo. It just shows that a design that has been made exclusively for a Porsche also works wonders on other cars. -Jeroen Willemsen Picture taken from Tej's flickr stream

Besides all the BMWs present during the RSG Racing Days , there were also a whole bunch of other cool machines at the event. The car above is a genuine Opel Ascona 400 of which only 268 were produced. It was cool to see the owner Robert Keil using the car for what is was intended for. This car was immaculate inside and out, as proven by this engine bay. I quickly snapped this picture when one of the mechanics popped the hood. The engine capacity is 2.4 liter and the driver has 230bhp on tap. After...

After getting a tip I logged onto the website of Heffner Performance . I didn't need to look hard before I got confronted with this Lamborghini Murcielago. But there was something different about this particular car. Yes your eyes aren't playing tricks with you, this V12 is being aided by not one but two turbo's. They just finished this car and have the boost set to 1 bar, giving the car 1100 rwhp. Check out the Dyno chart here , and for more pics and info you can log onto Heffner Performance...

Earlier this month I posted a photo of Mazda 323 GTX rally car, but there's one more AWD Mazda I wanted to acknowledge before AWD month is over - the Mazdaspeed Atenza (AKA Mazda6). With a 2.3 direct injected turbo engine and AWD, the MS Atenza was a grown up alternative to the Evo and Impreza and a direct rival to the Subaru Legacy. Unfortunately the car didn't sell all too well, and it only lasted for a couple model years. I searched around a bit looking for a good example of a tuned Mazdaspeed Atenza, but came up empty handed. The car in the photo is a tuned concept version that Mazda showed at the 2006 Tokyo Auto Salon. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Mazda's turbo AWD days. -Mike Garrett...

Being in Japan has given me the opportunity to see a lot of record-breaking tuner cars like the HRS Cyber Evo and Top Fuel S2000, but there is always something great about seeing a non-Japanese company do amazing things with a Japanese car. This NSX was built by Love Fab Motorsports in Buckley, Michigan, a company with many years of experience in custom turbo kits for all sorts of cars. On a recent trip to the dyno, this fully built turbocharged NSX put down an astonishing 921 RWHP and 641 ft. lbs of torque. I'd say there is little reason to doubt Love Fab's claim that this is the most powerful NSX in the world. ...

In the field of motoring certain technological advances become associated with a particular brand, Audi Quattro for instance or Porsche Turbo. Porsche Turbo, ah yes……… the image that springs to mind is that of a 911 as muscular as body builder and like any truly wild animal never fully domesticated. Fail to treat one of these cars without proper respect and at best it will be quick trip to the hedgerow. Where did this road going beast come from? Like most things from old school Porsche, it was born out of competition. Back in the early 70s the CSI (the FIA’s sporting arm) put out a proposal that the new breed of prototypes to replace the existing bunch would be based around a silhouette formula, so the basic shape of a road car with technical freedom under the skin....

Look at what I came across while surfing the intertubes! This has got to be one of the most stylish daily driven track weapons I've ever seen. The folks over at www.tripleZoom.com have a full feature on the car and the driver, and I must say, it's a great read. The owner, Chris Lee, has some of the rarest Miata parts on this continent. Not the least of which are those massive flares. Am I alone in loving "Dampa Chi" the little Tein mascot??? Of course, he needs those flares to fit...

As a bit of a follow up on my previous post on DTP, I want to get into a little more detail about some of the fantastic rides that I saw there. I would love to do full on features here, but at the moment, the weather in our area is not the most cooperative for photoshoots, and driving about. So I'll have to offer further teasings of what we have in our local scene. That 420z TT seems to have sparked a lot of interest. I saw people swarming around the car. The owner is a down to earth guy who...

As one of the most iconic and cost-efficient engines of all time, the Chevrolet small block has almost literally been jammed into every type of car under the sun. From BMW's to RX7's, there are few cars that haven't been packed full of bowtie-branded muscle at some point or another. While the traditional hot rod guys may love these kind of conversions, they are also viewed as sacrilegious by outspoken brand purists. But what happens when the tables are turned? "Sacrilegious"...

Fuujin Gets 7.5 second spec cage in preparation for 2008. We've just finished the work to make our Drag GTR ( and current European 4WD record holder ) even more compliant and safe to meet the rules for 7.5 second doorslammer cars. The car was previously spec'd to 8.5 second rules however late last year we started to dip into the lowe 8's with a best of 8.27 @164mph which was the milestone for the next phase of our cars development. Since the inception, the cars purpose is to run quicker...
