Hello Speedhunters! I hope you’ve had a good holiday season and are looking forward to the new racing year. I've just returned from the Dubai 24 hours and have written up this driver's blog of my time in the UAE. One thing new for this year is that I arrived in Dubai as the reigning champion of the 24 Hours. I knew we had a good chance to repeat the result. The most important thing with Dubai is the strategy to navigate the Balance of Performance (BOP) rules. As a driver it feels a...

Hello fellow Speedhunters! A couple of weeks ago, I woke up in the sleepy little lakeside town of Skreia in Norway. This is home for me, although I've only been here for about 30 days this year. So where have I been the rest of the year? It all started with a kickoff at Electronic Arts' Vancouver headquarters back in February. I became a Team Need for Speed driver this year - my dream had become reality and I was going to drive the full Formula Drift season! And from then on, I've pretty...

Sup Speedhunters, we just kicked off the 2011/12 drift season here in New Zealand and for me, it couldn’t have started any better. Really. Having won the 2011 NZDRIFT Nationals it was great to follow it up with this D1NZ win at Manfield Raceway. This season I’m full of determination and confidence after the generation 5 rebuild of the MADBUL 4rotor FD RX7. The car feels insane and it’s a total blast to drive. Could this be my first Full D1NZ Championship showing? The only NZ drift...

Hello Speedhunters! I know there are many blogs coming from me right now, but please bear with me.... I will go slightly more technical than before as I take you through round 6 of the 2011 Formula Drift series: After Dark at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Thanks to amazing help from my spotter Steffen and FSR Motorsport Creations, I was lucky enough to get to drive the Las Vegas round last year. Unfortunately, I returned the favor by shortening the Supra by a couple of feet after hitting the second outer...

Darren: There’s no smoke without fire... Fredric: Right on the money! The Prodrift Mondello finals were definitely one for the books. Fredric: I'll start where we left off in part 1 – at the very moment we lined up for the Top 16 driver introductions. Fredric: The crowd was crazy loud! The Irish certainly knows how to put on a warm welcome! I stood right next to my top 16 battle opponent Mike Deane, and just like the rest of the Deanes (there's a lot of them!) he brings a great...

Fredric: Hello Speedhunters! Here's part one of our writeup from the Prodrift Finals at Mondello Park in Ireland. It was an absolutely incredible weekend and in all seriousness it was one of the absolutely best drifting events I have ever attended. Every time I have met my Irish friends around the world they have always put a smile on my face, but visiting them at their home turf took it to a whole new level. It was about to get crazy. Fredric: The Prodrift Finals at Mondello Park was the second...

What's up Speedhunters! I'd like to make a toast. How about that ride out? I can see why they call it sin city... I wanted to drive real aggressive this round. The season is almost over! Vegas is a really good track for a big entry and I wanted to demonstrate my style and a commitment over the other drivers in these aspects. I also needed to finish off my rear bumper from the Washington abuse it got, which was quite easy to do it on this main entry wall if you wanted to. We showed up to Vegas...

Fredric: By the time top 16 started, the track was completely dry, the sun was shining and the photographers were out in front of the several thousand spectators. The BDC field is an impressive one, with several high profile sponsors involved, for instance with Cosworth supporting the SATS Supra. Drum roll! Darren: It's dry, its dry, its dry, its dry. I felt like doing a dance. I knew we had no hope in the wet but i was confident we could make something work in the dry. I needed this badly. Fredric...

Darren: Hello Speedhunters!! And welcome to the competition launch of the D-Mac86 on home soil (well sort of) I've been looking forward to returning to one of my old stomping grounds, Silverstone circuit in the UK for quite some time. I left the UK drift scene a good while ago after my D1GP success in Silverstone led me to Irwindale and Formula D. My initial excitement for returning to European competition was dampened by the unknowns of a new car build. It was going to be really difficult to...

Yo Sup Speedhunters! After our team shakedown test with the rebuilt MADBUL I’m now stoked to bring you this blog from my experience at the 2011 WTAC at Eastern Creek in Sydney, Australia. Firstly, I want to say a MASSIVE thanks to all my supporters in Australia that managed to make their way to the event. I had no idea and was shocked to see how many supporters I have in Oz. It was great to have the 4rotor there. Mazda Rotangs have a huge following in both New Zealand and Australia and both...

Hello again Speedhunters fans. After being totally dehydrated and pushed to my limits of human endurance, I’m now back in shape and will tell you the story behind the Spa 24 hours. It takes place at most magical and lovely Grand Prix track you can find: Spa Francorchamps. The landscape is beautiful and the corners are awesome – I don’t think you can find something more exciting. Maybe if you just have the chance to try the Nordschleife, but it’s not an ordinary GP track, right...

This past weekend I had a chance to follow the antics of Christian Rado as he continued his quest of setting lap records all across the United States. It amazes me everytime when I see the process the World Racing team has to go through just to produce one fast lap. It is warranted because in the sport of Time Attack, one lap is all that matters. Chris explains in detail what it takes to get that one fast lap. Chris Rado: For our team one of the key factors in securing a good lap is making sure that...

Hello Speedhunters, it has been a while! Just over a week ago myself and the crew headed over to Mallory Park for Awesomefest with the D-Mac86. Awesomefest was to be a pretty laid back four wheeled / two wheeled / music festival so it was an ideal opportunity to do some high speed testing in a car that we still hadn't properly driven in anger. All cars would be pitted together so the fans could see them all in one place. It was nice to see some old faces from back in the day. It has been a long...

Here is my driver blog from Formula Drift Round 5. which was held at Evergreen Speedway just north of Seattle. For us, it was one for the books and it was a weekend of extremes - in either direction... I had just flown in to Seattle from what had been six crazy weeks in June and July. We did five events over the course of four weeks, traveling between two continents. There had been a lot of sights and incredible experiences, and I was not done digesting it all. First up, we competed at Formula Drift...

What’s up Speedhunters! Hope the downtime since the east coast Formula D has made you hungry for some more Formula D coverage and excited for the last couple FD rounds of the season. Check out my Washington drivers blog below! I would also like to note here that this blog really has nothing to do with mullets at all. But I approve of them. Roland Gallagher’s dad probably has the flossiest one in Formula D though if you must know. Our pits and all our stuff got pretty wet from the rain...

There are only two Aston Martin V12 Zagato race cars on the planet, and I’m the lucky guy who has raced them both! The Zagato is effectively an evolution of the factory V12 Vantage that we campaigned at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 2010 and early 2011, but from the outside, very little gives away that heritage. To have the opportunity to drive with Aston Martin, in this car, on this track, is the stuff dreams are made of. Let me share a little of how this dream came true. I’ve been...

Motorsport is a tough old game. You can spend months, years even building your own personal race car and with one slight misjudgement all those hours of hard work can be undone in an instant. Most of us would probably have a little cry and call it a day. Darren McNamara however only saw fresh opportunity when faced with this exact dilemma. To really show you the whole picture of how this car evolved, I need to first take you back to October 2009. D-Mac was finishing his second season as a Formula...

Hello dear Speedhunters! Gatebil has already been amazingly covered here on Speedhunters, and I've had a blast viewing it all through the eyes of Rod, Larry and Paddy. In this driver blog, I'll try to bring you a little deeper into Gatebil as experienced by myself as a driver, and show you what it was like being back at the Rudskogen track after a year of literally drifting around the world. To me, it's the little things that make Gatebil so great. For the most part, it's a festival...

Tommy Milner: Race day arrives, and I’m feeling good. The start looked like it was definitely going to be wet, and it was. Edward Sandstrom: I was relieved that the race would soon start. I felt in good shape and the experience from last year made it easier to prepare. There was a big chance it would be warmer this year, so I really tried to be prepared. But actually, you learn from this sort of race how you personally react. I think it isn’t the same for all of us. During two hours driving...

I'm sure most of you are aware of our 'day in the life' series of stories where we follow an unsuspecting victim for a day and then relay back to you what it would be like to walk in this person's shoes for a day. For this particular story however, we're extremely fortunate for this person to talk us through their day in their own words. I'm rather quite excited by this for two reasons - we've never had the person of interest write this piece before and secondly, just...
