    Greatest racing movies...ever.

I am going to start with my personel favorites..

Steve  McQueen's  LE MANS...fanastic movie..not allot lines for the actors but man wicked footage...fifty stars in my books.

    James Garnder(sp) lol...Grand prix...fantastic movie....excellent footage.

Of the later movies....I am going to have to say  DRIVEN would have made my list were not for the eighty downshifts...to pass or the airborn crash's..or the HUMMERS..while driving thats um...not safe.. although if you look at Sly sitting the car waiting to go with his helmet on he actually looked the part .

Of the fast N furious ...movies i am going to have to go with number three as my favorite...it had the best driving..scenes..like no GT-R's punching a fifty shot to jump a bridge like in part two.

Days of thunder..um..no..not even goin there....Heck Stroker ACE was better than that one..lol..Ronin..BULLETT..

    Best Car chase's

lets not forget smokey in the bandit parts 1-2 trans am 3 and in this one they parked the Trans AM ..and used a RX7 ....ya very low budget but the car looked good.

I would love to see other peoples opinions..

I am very interested in seeing more car chase scenes.

The original Gone in 60 is a MUST see, just skip thru the 40 minutes or so. Ronin has one of my favorite chase scenes.  It's not really a movie, but for pure car fun check out Getaway in Stokholm 2. I had really high hopes for Death Proof but BLEH! Altho Zoe Bell's stunts were pretty awsome.

IMO the greatest filmed racing sequence of all time is the race start of the Steve McQueen Le Mans film.

I must say that I thought Driven was dreadful!

I like the street racing in the live action Initial D.

Fast and the furious 1 will always be viewed in a good light because it might not have got everything right but it was the first big film that really tried to tap into what was going on. I think 2 was the better of the 3 films overall but you're right about 3 being the best racing scenes.

None of them will touch Le Mans though.

Hey have you guys ever seen the Jackie Chan film, called THUNDERBOLT???

It's kinda old, like maybe 1995ish? I saw it back then and I was floored... it featured Japanese cars like Skylines, Lancer Evo, GTO (3000GT), and even the lame FTO haha (Mitsubishi was a sponsor of the movie - maybe that's why the bad guy drove a Skyline, haha) If you can find a copy of this on a Chinese subtitled DVD, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!! It's super cool IMHO. Shows some Group A style racing in it.

Another Jackie Chan film - "Who Am I" also features a Lancer Evo, and shows some Paris-Dakar rally type footage in Mitsubishi Pajeros also.

For Japanese films, check out the Shutokou (spelling?) TRIAL series. Super dope! Drivers battle in FCs, FDs, JZA70s, R32s, etc, it's super dope! Features all the best Japanese sports cars from the late 80s and early 90s.

I also had one videotape of this low budget, lame Japanese film, but it featured drifting, and the main guy had an AE86, and he later sold out and got an S13 (I think? Or was it an FC...? I forgot.)

A BIG +1 to that. the super dramtic music and the clock ticking down slowly, the shots of all the drivers faces, then when the clock reaches zero  everything freezes. When it starts again, all you hear is crazy engine noise. Absolutely incredible! :)

    EDIT: here ya go.

I totally blew it on racing movies...leaving out one of the most under rated racing movies....HEART SHAPE WHEEL..the Shirly Maldoon story ..i believe thats how her name is spelled. It's a drag racing flick..but there is cool footage..none the less....Big Daddy Garland has few lines..

But it could have been better....Intial D had some really cool street racing footage..too. oh CANNON BALL RUN...SPEED ZONE...classic comedy car flix..but cool.

    Has anyone mentioned Bullet?

Oh, and I agree on Ronin.  Great chase scenes in there.

Gone in 60 only really had one really good chase, and that lead to people referring to any grey Shelby as Eleanor.  ;)
