New to drifting? What should be the first car? Steps, tehnique and specs.

Hy, I am Chris and I'm a novice drifter myself.

Been drifting some cars... but never really owned one, so now I'm looking to get one of my own. I'd like a Skyline, trouble is that in the country where I'm located at, we drive on the right side of the street and the Skyline was meant for the other side so... Hard to be legit with it. My other choices would be a Silvia S15-S14, Nissan 240SX or BMW other than that... I don't really know... So I've made this post to exchange oppinions, experiences and advices about cars, techniques and specs with other drifting enthuz people out there. All being said, let the discutions begin!! Feedback is very important. Thank you:)

Buy any cheap rwd cars to learn in, basics mods eg welded diff would help. In the United Arab Emirates theres lots of converted Skylines withthe steering wheel on the left side kicking about, you could try importing one from there Smile

BMWs are a good idea too Smile

so what if you try those cars, and to take a decision by your self ? and don't forget, well is not the ride, its the rider...

Hy:) I know it's not the car, but the rider, but the car plays a major part in it. In the end, of course that I'm gonna take a decision by myself. I just meant to express some of my preferences and see what other people would think.

I've seen people drifting Volvo's and what not. Some people stuck to there "non-stream" cars and I find that very interesting, people trying to drift any car with minimum specs, from old buckets to pick-up trucks.

    Yo chris..

the silvias are pretty good choice. skyline is pretty heavy for drift. unless you want a better one which is a 350Z the lady.. old rides are good too, but it must be a FR. you can just get an old ride and just remodel everything.. might be cheaper if that old ride is still going strong..

i'm just usin a Datsun 120Y GX to drift. but i just drift for pleasure, not into competitions..

I would reccomend a 180SX imported from Japan. You can get one imported for really cheap and it comes with a SR20DET which is an amazing engine. Great starter car for drifting. Then again Any RWD Car would be great. You just need to get the feel for it.

I'm running a Nissan S13 200SX with the CA18DET enginge. I'ts really neat, but to drift really good you need to exchange the diff. I wouldn't weld it as most guys do. You'll use up your tires in no time - even when NOT drifting. Practice at wet surface at first so you get a hold on how the car handles. I've been doing laps in roundabouts with everything set to original except for the koni shock absorbers. But when hitting dry tarmac, you'll need a good diff ;)
