Decided to go drive one of my Dads short track oval cars last weekend. It's a 1 litre 16 valve Nissan Micra or March in Japan. The car was misfiring in practice and the first race due to silly little problems from its conversion to carburettor from efi. But we got it fixed for race 2 and while trying to keep as tight as possible to the slower car inside me, in turn 2 I clipped his heavily cambered front wheel and launched myself into the air!!! Oops..... Look at that inside wheel! I just couldnt...

Hello to all my fellow Speed Freaks, my name is Nate Hassler, I’m the associate editor at Modified Mag and recently I was given a unique and fantastic opportunity to follow and shadow the Gardella Racing team at Formula DRIFT: Throwdown at Evergreen Speedway. The crew of Gardella Racing is a small, tight knit group. Gary Gardella, the team owner, is a family man at heart, and he always takes time to speak to fans and spectators. Ryan Tuerck is very modest. With polite manners and a smile that...

Finally! After a long break for Le Mans, the ALMS got back racing again with the 4th race of the season, the Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsport Park. For me, it’s been a slow month and a half. I spent two days with the rest of the team at Road Atlanta a few weeks ago, preparing for this race and for the rest of the season. But I was ready to get back racing again and put Laguna behind me. My week at Miller started pretty early. I had to be there on the Tuesday before the race to help with...

September’s Theme for Modified Magazine is all about Australia and the World Time Attack Challenge. I’m not going to get into too much detail about the event since most of you have already read about the results on here. However, if you are looking for complete coverage of how everything unfolded then I highly recommend this issue. We also looked past the pro cars and have coverage of the other classes that ran during the event. We couldn’t leave out the privateers, after all, those...

It’s not a surprise that nowadays the world’s automotive culture consists of a great variety of different tuning styles. Some of us prefer to spend our budgets under the hood instead of on the exterior, while others are happy to buy a Lamborghini or Ferrari. But there is a very special car style which nobody can ignore. The low rider. The amount of low rider enthusiasts all over the globe becomes bigger each year, even here in Russia. And this brings us to Active Open Air, which was held...

What’s big, wide, and packs quite a punch? July’s cover car of course. It’s a purpose track built, 407whp, Subaru STI with all the right parts and combinations. What sets this STI apart from others is the great attention to detail throughout the entire build and let’s face it, this STI looks killer. It’s clean and minimalistic approach to the exterior make it stand out from most of the sticker clad track warriors out there. Another fine example of a clean and unique...

Since last week was drives week, I figured I would stray away from the normal Modified Mag content I post and show you a great drive I took last week while I was in Australia covering the World Time Attack Challenge. Mazda of Australia was gracious enough to throw me the keys to one of their brand new 2010 Mazda MPS hatchbacks. These cars are called MazdaSpeed3’s in North America but I heard because Australia doesn’t allow the word Speed to be used in a car’s name Mazda had to settle...

A new addition to this round was the return of Robin Duxbury’s EVO 7, with a complete makeover. Still featuring the mix of Voltex and Do-Luck areo, it has now gotten lower, lighter and faster! Featuring DTM Spec Mercedes carbon brakes, WRC tarmac spec Exe-tc suspension, Touring car inspired suspension set up’s and to top it all over a flappy paddle sequential shift system! This car really does need to be seen in the flesh to appreciate the attention to detail and the sheer awesomeness...

At the end of every month, the Australian JDM Style Tuning forum holds an informal meet (known as EOMM). This month’s meet was held at JDM Yard, with the complex filling quickly with cars. About 30 cars had to park on the street as there was simply no more space. The turnout was decent – I’d guess there were around 80 cars – considering the rain continued to fall for most of the day. Tom from Fast Fours magazine made a cameo appearance in his 180SX. He’s certainly nailed...

As the smoke, rubber, and acrid smell of straight pipe exhausts burn off from Skyline week, we present another Speedhunters first. Teamed up with YoParts, we’ll cover the GMG performance build of their R35 GT-R Street Machine. For anyone not aware, you will be able to win this amazing car! YoParts has created a pretty cool performance specification contest for their customers to participate in each step of the build; they’ll get access to specs, and be asked to calculate perf curves,...

I’ve recently come back from the NISSAN Motorsports Press Conference 2010. It was the first such event at the company’s gleaming new headquarters in Yokohama, where the DATSUN brand was born nearly 75 years ago. Naturally, the focus was on who will be driving for each of the three teams in the GT500 class of SUPER GT this season... .. but equally on what developments had taken place ahead of the inaugural FIA GT1 World Championship. With the sudden demise in December of Gigawave Motorsports...
