Hubinette: " Heyyy... what's up guys! So... you got an extra racing suit that fits me? " It's been a while since people have seen me post up here on Speedhunters; I've been on a much needed vacation - traveling, relaxing, and working on other projects. Anyway, I received a shocking phone call this evening from one of the guys I do business with at Mopar. Apparently, due to unfavorable financial issues, Mopar has been forced to withdraw from their sponsorship and support of Samuel...

By the time you all read this, I'll most likely be on my way to the airport, bound for Miami. I just love the East Coast in the springtime - it's awesome. What's also awesome is this video I found of popular Speedhunters reader Andy Sapp, doing a little street style drifting with his E46 3-series BMW.

For those who don't know Andy Sapp personally, let me fill you in. Some might recognize Andy as one of the producers of the American drifting documentary film, Slide America (2007). Others who have been following competitive drifting for a while might remember Andy from when he was driving his black E46 BMW in the Formula Drift series.

Whether you know the name or not, Andy Sapp is definitely one to keep your eye on. He is a devoted member of Atlanta's grassroots drifting community, as a member of an ATL drift crew called Drift Mechaniks. I dig the video! Doesn't it make you guys want to drive a piece of Bavarian machinery?

As winter draws to a close in Detroit, after its awful five month visit, I thought it best to skip town for a while and get a head start on summer. A week long search of flights to any warm city I could think of led me to a roundtrip ticket to Los Angeles for $185. The price was just too good to pass up. I rounded up my girlfriend Veronica and made plans with a couple friends in the LA area to crash on their couches. The thought of palm trees and Jamba Juice was enough to keep me in giddy anticipation...

For some reason, people have a tendency to underestimate Bergenholtz Racing. That's a mistake. Big mistake. Bergenholtz Racing was the most successful privateer drag racing team in the NHRA Sport Compact Series, using unrelenting determination and ingenuity to clown the big dollar budget of GM over and over and over again. Don't believe it? There's a display case full of Wallies (the coveted NHRA Wally Parks trophy) at Ron Bergenholtz's Orange County home to prove it. Ron B and the...

Over the next few weeks, as everyone anxiously awaits the start of the racing season, lots of car builders from all over are preparing their new cars. While this particular car is not intended for professional drifting use, I thought I'd just show some snaps of this Mazda FC3S truck that's being built at JTP Motorsports, the garage of Formula D FC3S driver Justin Pawlak . While we have shown you other FC3S trucks on Speedhunters previously, this particular FC3S truck is a bit different because...

Since I know Speedhunters readers have a wide interest in reading all sorts of automotive websites and watching all sorts of automotive videos, some of you might be interested in watching this video. It's called Speed Dreams, a video produced by Mobile 1 Oil that examines the professional success of F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Porsche GT driver Wolf Henzler, and Pro FWD dragger Jason Whitfield.

This 24 minute film discusses how scientific breakthroughs in the development of synthetic motor oils helped to improve the aforementioned drivers' performance on the racetrack. Does this look and sound like a blatant advertorial/commercial? You bet. However, I bet some of us can learn something from the information in the video. Anyway, it involves Lewis Hamilton (Hey, hopefully there are guest appearances from his hot gf, Nicole Scherzinger), F1 cars, Porsche GT cars, and Jason Whitfield. It should be worth a look.

Unless you're totally adamant about not missing those reruns of Friends this evening, you can watch Speed Dreams on "the Documentary Channel" tonight at 10pm.

The bad news is, the Falken Garage Sale has been cancelled or postponed. However, the GOOD NEWS is that Apex Integration in Orange CA will be having their annual garage sale next weekend, on Saturday, March 21st! According to my friends at Apex'i, they will be blowing out lots of used race parts from their drifting and/or drag cars, lots of returned or discontinued items from their inventory, including LOTS of mufflers and electronics items! For those of you who like the look of Apex'i gauges...

This week, many motoring journalists were given the opportunity to get out of the office and have fun on the race track, thanks to Continental Tires. Continental just came out with two all-new high performance tires, the Continental Extreme Contact DW (high performance, dry weather tire) and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS (high performance, all season tire). The nice folks at Continental provided us with 3-series BMWs and Ford Mustangs so that we could try out the tires on dry and wet autocross...

Scion has also released limited production "themed" cars to make certain models of its cars more exclusive. Apparently, the exclusive car for this year will be the Scion tC Release Series...

Okay, so get this. What if you woke up one morning, and got a phone call from Lamborghini headquarters in Italy, asking if you could fly out immediately to test drive the fastest Lamborghini ever built by the factory? Just how quickly do you think you could brush your teeth, pack your bags, and head to the airport?

This crazy scenario was actually a true story for a person I know. Four weeks ago, he was personally chosen by Lamborghini to fly to a high security aircraft hangar located in Hamburg, Germany. His mission was to test drive a prototype Lamborghini, for the filming of a new car debut film, which would be played at the Geneva Auto Show. The car in question would be the previously unreleased Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 Super Veloce - one of only two prototypes that exist in the entire world.

This new Murcielago LP 670-4 Super Veloce produces 670 horsepower, and is 220lbs lighter than a normal Murcielago. It truly is a supercar - it does zero to sixty in only 3.2 seconds! It's limited too - only 350 of these LP 670-4 SVs will be produced.

So imagine YOU were the person that was called on by Lamborghini. Just how fast could YOU pack your bags?

BONUS Points: Can anyone guess who was driving the Murcielago SV in the film?

Since I have quite a few friends that own Mazda RX7s and RX3s, I've seen firsthand how fun they can be, and have always had a certain respect for rotary powered vehicles. I even owned a 13B powered FC3S RX7 about ten years ago, so I am definitely a plan of the RX platform. About a week ago, I was given the opportunity to test drive the 2009 Mazda RX8 R3, the newest evolution of the RX8 platform. The most obvious changes that the R3 version offers over the normal RX8s begin with the exterior....

Just last week, I was given the opportunity to test drive the R3 version of the 2009 Mazda RX8 . Since Mazda's television ads state that there are more Mazdas racing on any given weekend than any other car brand, I decided that I should prove this theory by taking the RX8 to the track. Since some of my recent driving impressions took place at a road racing circuit, I decided to switch things up a bit and refresh my skills in solo racing, or timed autocross. Searching the internet for a local...

Here in Southern California, warm weather is coming soon! I look forward to upcoming Just Drift events and ZipTied All Star Bash! Nowadays, All Star Bash style is all about big aero, super wide wheels, stretched tires, fat lips, etc... however, I wonder how many Speedhunters readers and grassroots drifting enthusiasts remember the days when it was a little more simple? Up above, check out Stan Tran's RPS13, doing a little dirt drop action at the Willow Springs oval. This was from one of the early...

When I was walking through the Grand National Roadster Show last month, I spotted this Buick Riviera parked outside the exhibit halls. I didn't even know what kind of car it was at first, but I was just drawn to it. I thought, "damn, this is a car you'd expect to see in an old gangster movie." I seem to have an affection for low, mean looking cars, no matter what kind of car it is. I'm not even a Buick fan necessarily, but I just love the simple and elegant body of this car...

We really haven't posted many photos of AW11 MR2s on our Speedhunters Toyota month thus far. While I really like the cars themselves, it's very challenging to find a nice first generation MR2 that isn't completely thrashed from old age. I had some AW11s lined up actually, but the owners of the cars weren't able to spare time to set aside and shoot with me. That being said, I decided to dig into my archive for photos of Jay Serrano's cleanly modified AW11 Mr2 Supercharged with...

When we went on the very first Speedhunters trip to the UK in April of 2008, I was excited to attend an EDC drift event. Thanks to the generosity of our hosts, EDC's own Andy Barnes and Glenn Horncastle, the European Drift Championship Round 1 event at the famous Donington Park motor racing circuit was very fun and exciting! However, there was one particular car I didn't get to see in person... and as it turns out, it was the car I wanted to see in person the most! In my opinion, Chris Parry...

Rough World. The name is infamous amongst AE86 owners in the know. Rough World is a name that is filled with legend. Characterized by their aggressive, mean, down-to-business drift cars built in the Rough Style, the name is defined by the hardcore crew of old school street drifters who hail from Ibaragi, but gained respect all over Japan. As a drift team, Rough World is like a band of renegade samurai charging through the mountains with "I don't give a F" attitudes, attacking the local...

Even though we currently don't show too much footage of SCCA Solo2 events on Speedhunters, I have to admit, I really love autocross. Sure, it's not as exciting to watch as, let's say, Formula Drift or the FIA GT Championship series, but I think autocross is extremely fun to participate in when you're sitting in the driver's seat.

Shortly after I first began driving, I discovered autocross events in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is what got me hooked on racing and vintage Toyotas in the first place. It was an an SCCA Solo2 event that I drove my first TE27 (Arnold Escano's white-yellow-green-orange race painted 3TC powered TE27 Corolla), and a lot of the fast guys at the track drove either bone stock Miatas, CRXs, or old rear wheel drive Toyota Corollas or Starlets.

Living this fast paced lifestyle, traveling to shoot all these different cars and events in different cities, I've realized that I've actually been hard pressed to participate in what got me into cars in the first place - racing. One of my New Year's Resolutions this year is to make every effort I can to get as much track time as possible. I love driving as much as I love shooting photos of racecars. It's definitely time to get some new tires and refresh my cars for track action.

Many drivers out there want to have the fastest car on the track... however, regardless of how much horsepower is under your hood, the best way to improve lap times on a racetrack is not by improving the car, but by improving the driver.

As I searched the internet to find a schedule of SCCA Autocross events in Southern California, I stumbled upon this video from Evolution Performance Driving School. The Evo School is a group of dedicated autocross instructors who tour the nation giving autocross driver improvement clinics in your hometown! After watching this video online, I was immediately motivated to sign up. After all, my birthday is this weekend; and I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday this year than to refresh my skills in autocross. I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

Evo School is having an autocross school at El Toro Airfield in Irvine CA this weekend, February 28 and March 1st. Who else wants to join me?

Cmon, Speedhunters readers! Sign up and let's go driving! I'll be giving away free Speedhunters stickers to anyone who asks for them!

The JZS161 Lexus GS300/GS400 (Toyota Aristo) is definitely an extremely popular car for modifying in the VIP car scene. Especially here in Southern California, we can frequently see very nice examples of GS luxury, slammed with great looking wheel and tire setups. This trend especially came about because some of the original fixed-up car guys from the sport compact scene (guys that were street racing in the 1990s) began getting a bit older and needed a bit more luxury or automotive sophistication...
