BMW E30 318is, Nürburgring, Germany 2.5s, F/1.6, 24mm, ISO 2500 2011 felt like my fastest year to go by. I wasn't able to Speedhunt as much as I had wanted to, which has given me an idea for my new year's resolutions. If I were to sum up my Speedhunting year 2011, these images would remind me of the highlights. Züridrift S14, Speed Industries Trackday, Anneau du Rhin, France 1/100th, F/2.8, 70mm ISO 450 Touge Automotive announced their support for Team Speed Industries . The decals...

For the better part of the "noughties", the popular German car magazine Sport Auto has been holding an event at Hockenheimring called the sport auto Tuner Grand Prix. The event was akin to a Time Attack event, where a grid of mostly European tuner cars competing for overall and class fastest times. It also included a drift slot where exhibition drift runs were performed in front of a packed grandstand at the SACHS corner. In Germany it is quite rare for the drifting community to have an...

Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame once said, "Germany, the last refuge of the speed freak". He was of course talking about the German autobahns . I got my autobahn experience when I first arrived in Germany at the age of 15 in 2003. On the taxi ride to our hotel the driver clocked over 240km/h and there I was in the passenger seat gripping the door handle firmly out of excitement and trepidation. Needless to say, that thrilling taxi ride hooked me to the drug that is speed. A common misconception...

Check out one practice lap of Michael Scherr in his Nissan Z32 drift car on the Müllenbachschleife at Nürburgring I shot a while back. I just can't get enough of that glorious six cylinder music even though the built in microphone of the camera barely does it any justice.

I just stumbled upon this video of Yves Faber tearing through the Eschdorf hill climb course last week in his Fox body Mustang we featured a while ago.

Remember to turn your speakers up!

This is a shape that needs no introduction in the automotive world. It's the sister show car of the world famous twin turbo V12 Toyota Supra dreamed up by none other than the legendary Smoky Nagata of Top Secret . But that's not all of it. The tarmac that the car is sitting on is the old Waldgerade, or Forest Straight at Hockenheimring, abandoned since the 2001 modernization. Hard to imagine while I was there, how a decade ago it used to be the fastest bit of Hockenheimring Formula 1 circuit...

April saw the first round of Scandinavian Drift Series kickoff at Aarhus, in Denmark. Everytime I get to see pictures from the series, I am constantly amazed at how far they have come in such a short time (the series is just a couple of years old). Mainstream sponsorship is something that is fairly new to the series, so it was nice to see the updated Falken-liveried Chaser driven by Niels Becker. Just gotta love his Ronal Aero wheels. The Chaser, one of two Falken drift cars running in Scandinavian...

After our dash from Sent to Stelvio, it was time to head back for a night's rest. Have a look the glorious road that took us there. We woke up to the crisp morning alpine air at the apartment overlooking the Engadin valley We decided to check out the local towns in the morning, so we headed to Sur En. The little stream that flows beneath comes directly from a glacier with literally ice cold water. I remembered Martin telling me about a little town across the Swiss border in Italy called Livigno...

We pick up the action a few hours after where I left off last time. Having taken a break and emptied the memory cards, we decided that it would be a good idea to catch the sunset from the top of Stelvio. So off we went. Heading towards Zernez, Engadin valley. These main roads are a pure joy, just gotta make sure you don't get too distracted by the beautiful scenery. But when the the scenery is not being distracting, your brain is assaulted by the incredible sense of speed from the tree lined...

It all started last year when my good friend Martin Aeppli hit me up and asked me if I was up for a mega roadtrip. Being a roadtrip nut, I wasn't the one to say no. The plan was to drive to the Davos - Stelvio mountain passes not much different to that driven in the popular television show Topgear. First stop was in Zurich, where Martin and his car live. He took out the rear bench in the Scooby and had already bolted a Prodrive backbox on. We drove from Zurich to Davos, from where the stretch...

Here we have Michael Scherr from Germany, screaming up the Schumacher S corner of the Nürburgring GP track in his 550hp Nissan Z32. Michael or Micha as he is called, recently took part in the Nissan Sportscarbattle - a competition organized by Nissan to pick drivers to enter the 2011 Dubai 24HR race. Micha excelled round after round of driver selection proving that drifters are not all meant to be looked down upon when it comes to clocking really quick lap times. Unfortunately Micha was unable...

Back in August last year, I came across this car at the penultimate round of Scandinavian Drift Series in Arhus, Denmark. When Marc from Worksmag showed me around the paddock on the night I arrived, this car instantly caught my eye. I am so used to seeing busted up driftcars that when I saw this example sporting a Kazama Promode kit, I just had to make a mental note to grab a shoot that weekend. It's driven by Jacob Hogh Hansen from Denmark for Jock's Drift Team which includes this car that...

Just like year, I was invited once again by my good friend Yves Faber to check out the International Motorshow Luxembourg. Unlike the bigger motorshows, the exhibitor lineup is mostly of a private or dealer nature, with no real manufacturer taking part. For the fifth year in a row, Yves, along with a few other drifters have been doing drift demos at the show, entertaining the crowd with a little more than static action. I arrived on the second day and started off with a nice drift family breakfast...

There is a running joke among some tuners that the RB in the RB25 and RB26 stands for 'Running me broke'. I believe it is one of the reasons why some young speedfreaks prefer the heavier JZ motor swaps over RB. So naturally, when Chris bought this S13 about a year ago and wanted to have some fun with it, that is what we all expected him to do... or maybe even stick with the CA18DET motor that he bought with. After all, Chris does live in Switzerland and it is a country not exactly known for...

I attended the final round of the Scandinavian Drift Series held at Sturup Raceway, where I came across this car. It's driven by Petter Eriksen from Norway who won the Pro-Am class that round. This is the same car that Phil Morrison used to own. It gets funnier when you look over at Driftworks, they did not know where the car ended up!

The V8 sound is from the chase car, a Porsche Cayenne.

When I was invited to attend a round of the Scandinavian Drift Series at Sturup Raceway in Sweden a few weeks ago, I was toying with the idea of a joke in my mind of a drifting Volvo. Rather shockingly, that is exactly what I found when I got there. This Volvo 745 wagon from 1990 was driven by Daniel Johansson and put out a respectable 400hp. I saw it in the paddock before the race and all the while I thinking it was some sort of a tyre hauler. How wrong I was. Jimmi Hansen drove this smokey E36...

In the late 1990s, the UK AWD car scene was smitten with the first generation Subaru Impreza WRX STi, resulting in a large number of grey imports from Japan. Subaru wasn't particularly very happy at this and commissioned Prodrive to get to work. The result was this. Dubbed the Prodrive P1, it was a limited edition Subaru Impreza STi customized for the British roads. The engine was a WRX STi unit producing 276bhp. All of the 1000 P1s came in the classic Sonic Blue paint job. It also sported a...

Being AE86 day, I thought I'd look around and try to feature one here on Speedhunters. The trouble was, I know just three guys who own a Hachiroku - one of them is in bits and the other is midway through an S2000 engine swap. Luckily for me though, I had recently shot the cleanest AE86 of the three, so here we go. This car belongs to a Swiss friend of mine of the name Swen Burkhard who bought the car initially with no knowledge of the car's rather legendary status amongst enthusiasts. He...

Being active in the German drift scene, it is inevitable that every second car I see or shoot is a BMW, as the parts cost next to nothing compared to those of JDM models. That said, referring to this car as 'just another drift BMW' would be a big mistake. It belongs to Michael Sahli from Driftteam Switzerland who has been thrashing it sideways since the beginning of 2008. It started its life in 1991 as an E30 325i Touring and eventually landed in the hands of Michu in 2007. He showed no mercy...

Let's rewind the story back to September last year. I had the chance to meet our commander in chief Rod Chong and fellow Speedhunter Dino Dalle Carbonare during their speedhunting trip to Munich in Germany. We were joined by local drifter Patrick Ritzmann who at that time was competing in the International Drift Series Pro Class with a BMW E34 M5. During our dinner, Rod explained why cars needed to be professional not only in their technicality, but also in their looks in order to be noticed...
