Wekfest was unlike any car show I have ever been to and was an amazing experience that I'll never forget. This definitely goes down as one of those events you speedhunters out there need to check out at least once in your lifetime. It was great to see such a unique blend of beautiful cars all at one location. I really liked that most of these cars were street driven, and the owners have no problem driving them to the show. There must have been at least 15 top end show cars that passed me, during...

NHRA Winter Nationals started off with a bang this weekend in sunny Southern California and to celebrate, we're releasing a set of high rez images to decorate your computer desktops. The ambient temperature was crazy hot but the action on the track was much hotter. All the stars of professional drag racing were there to start off the season. There were no shortage of amateur drivers from all over North America as well. Crowd favorite, Courtney Force, was the first one to make a pass out of the...

For some of the international Speedhunters' audience, Drag racing is one of those polarizing motorsports where you either love it to death, or you just don't get it. Personally, I think life is too short to hate on any form of motorsport. It's just one of those things you have to experience as a car nut before you become worm food. NHRA Winter Nationals is the first event out of the 23 round Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. It's being held this weekend at Autoclub Speedway in Pomona...

We are back to cover the rest of the 2012 Grand National Roadster Show’s AMBR award. First up is my favourite entry for the award for America’s Most Beautiful Roadster. I am a huge fan of Roy Brizio’s work. To me, this 1932 Ford is poetic and graceful and it caught my eye from across the room. The muted palette is so sophisticated and unexpected. Usually the entrants are highly saturated in colour, or abyss deep shiny black. These Halibrand style Kidney Bean wheels really seal the...

The "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" competition formed an important portion of the 2012 GNRS show. Dating back to 1950, the AMBR award is the ultimate title in the North American hot rodding scene and in the next two stories we are covering its 10 contestants and the winner. The contest is only for roadster hot rods and is only open to cars dated from 1937 and earlier. Home garage builds competed against million dollar projects for this coveted 9 foot trophy, which has been awarded...

Although I've been to many hot rod events, this was my first time at the Grand National Roadster show. What impressed me the most was the variety of cars there, and how pristine they were given their age. Of course, all of them have had some sort of restoration in one form or another. It makes me wonder what it would have been like to see these cars on the showroom floor. It's hard to imagine them being brand new once upon a time. Just sitting in this lead sled makes you feel like a million...

Day one of the Grand National Roadster Show was unbelievable, seeing the Watson cars and The Rodfather's ride were a big deal for me. So as day two started, Larry and I had our best insoles on to take on another photographic pass at this colossal show. It was a real task to try and see everything, the Fairplex fairgrounds are massive but we were determined! Even the parking lot of the show was peppered with gems, like this 1973 Ford Econoline with a 70's-lite boogie van treatment with the...

At this time of the year most of North America are putting chains on their tires or scraping ice off their windshields. However the folks in California were rolling their most impressive rod and customs into the Pomona Fairgrounds for the 63rd annual Grand National Roadster show. The GNRS event, held on the last weekend of January, drew over 1000 vehicles, including countless cars that have graced the covers of various custom, hot rod, and lowrider magazines. When the Speedhunters team asked me to...

Hello fellow Speedhunters! A couple of weeks ago, I woke up in the sleepy little lakeside town of Skreia in Norway. This is home for me, although I've only been here for about 30 days this year. So where have I been the rest of the year? It all started with a kickoff at Electronic Arts' Vancouver headquarters back in February. I became a Team Need for Speed driver this year - my dream had become reality and I was going to drive the full Formula Drift season! And from then on, I've pretty...

In Part 1 I showed you guys my picks for the most visually appealing photos from the past year. Now, on to my most impactful and best story-telling photos of the year. (Above) Formula Drift Las Vegas, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Nevada, United States In this photo, Rhys may be thanking a higher power, or perhaps he is just grateful of the Formula Drift judges decision to give him the win. Either way this picture shows a winner, and his uncontrollable expression of celebration. Formula Drift Palm Beach...

I've split my photos of the year into two posts. One for photos that I think are visually appealing - but may not tell much of a story - and the other for photos that tell a story but may not have the best composition or technique. This opening shot is one of my favorites from the year. While it may be beautiful, it doesn't tell much of a story. It has a very cartoon-like quality to it from all the different colors. I was honestly just at the right place at the right time when those red and...

There are a few things you could do in 30 hours. You could complete a 5000 piece puzzle of "the last supper" or in my case, you could visit the land of the rising sun. Scion wanted to give a few members of the media (twelve to be exact) a sneak preview of their up and coming sports coupe, and I was lucky enough to be one of them. They also brought along Ken Gushi, a Scion Racing pro drifter. This is my fourth time to Japan. I've always gone in the winter time so I am used to seeing...

It's just been announced that Daigo Saito will be joining Robbie Nishida and the Bridges Racing Team for the 2012 Formula Drift Season. “We are elated that Daigo and Robbie are part of the Bridges Racing team for the 2012 season" said team owner Bryan Bridges. "We are excited to see what 2012 has to offer. After having the pleasure of working with Robbie during 2011 Formula Drift season, the addition of Daigo to our team is another invaluable asset. Our goals are set pretty high...

It's official, the Scion FR-S can drift . Formula Drift driver, Ken Gushi, made a short trip to Japan to test out his future drift car. He also had his far share of fast laps in the Toyota 86. Our very own Dino Dalle Carbonare was yet again behind the wheel of the Japanese version, and also hung it sideways as well. Dino is seen here driving the automatic version, which he said was surprisingly impressive. A detailed analyis is coming your way shortly from Dino. I'm currently at the airport...

Global Time Attack finished it's inaugural season with a bang this past week at one of the most beautiful tracks in North America, Infineon Raceway. In total seven records were broken. One of them now belongs to Team Need for Speed driver, Chris Rado, who beat the previous front wheel drive time attack record by about seven seconds. I thought it would be neat to have John Naderi, from Global Time Attack, chime in a bit about how the event went. Larry: The paddock was pretty full. There was a...

My first car was a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE. When making left turns, it would occasionally shut off. I had a love hate relationship with that car. So when I found out this 1970 Porsche 914-6 was Jeff Zwart's first car, I became very jealous. Jeff is known for directing commercials, his photography and his Pikes Peak escapades . He saved up his money in high school looking to buy a car, but his father made him invest his money in the stock market. He was also not allowed to pull out that money out until...

The 2011 Global Time Attack season went out with a bang. Six track records were broken. The Pandora One RWB Porsche was not built to sit around and look pretty. Mark Arcenal proved that when he drove the green monster in the rain. Once again, the GST Motorsports Subaru Impreza, driven by Jeff Westphal, broke its class record. Jeff Zwart came to check out the event and brought out his very clean Porsche 914-6. Stay tuned for a spotlight. Luke Lonberger was out in his Formula Drift Corvette. He brought...

I felt so privileged to have the chance to follow Team USA around at World Drift Series China in Hang Zhou. Even though our drivers are given unfavorable conditions and unfavorable odds, they still seem to make the best out of it. Vaughn Gittin Jr's crew chief, Ian Stewart, of Auto Sport Dynamics, told me that he loves competing in China. He mentioned that it brings everyone back to the roots of drifting. The teams don't have fancy rigs and spare parts are very limited. Drifting in China...

The first round of World Drift Series China was a big success for Team Need for Speed. Vaughn Gittin Jr. finished first and Matt Powers finished second. The event was held in the industrial and smoggy city of Tianjin. The second and final round of the series was held in the beautiful city of Hang Zhou. Five members of the media came along for the Asian adventure. Three of which, including me, were Speedhunters. Midway through our fourteen-hour flight to China, I decided to check on the boys of team...

There was only one car that was fitting enough to end this month's Street Cars & Sleepers theme. And this is it. For the past couple of years, the maniac known as Chris Rado has been devising plans to build his ultimate street car. Of course, for someone who pilots a 2000hp drag car and the Team NFS time attack car, his interpretation of 'ultimate' is somewhat more extreme than what you or I might come up with. For Chris Rado, his ultimate street car is this Toyota Supra. Metal wide...
