:( that little segment about the hachi made me tear a bit lol....i drive a R32 now and i miss my old 86..I miss the feeling of waking up in the morning, and thinking, "i'm going to drive my car all day today, every minute every hour...and with gas prices today...you can actually do that!! lol but no i really miss that, hahaha even when your on a date, in the movies or something, knowing ya might be getting some tonight, but also knowing that ya got a girl waiting outside for ya, feeling lonely in its huge parking spot, thats always ready lol....no homo... But again wicked article, awesome pictures..it was like taking a little refresher course lol. Good stuff..

Great 101 Mike.

I would add, the IS250/350, even though, like mentioned before, are not exactly cheap (Hiro Sumida's IS is a great example), or even the CT9A (Kumakubo/ Millen), again, not popular at all, but certainly a viable choice.

Another car I really would like to see drift is a Mercedes ! Maybe a C-Class, or something similar. It's been done before, but very rare (due to the cost, and lack of aftermarket support).

Great write up man. Very good for introducing cars to people who are new to the drift scene.

To Liamsil80: I read somewhere that Katsuhiro Ueo, who used to drive the AE86, practiced on one with just suspension mods. He was pretty good considering his car lacked in power compared to the FC's, S15's, and the like. As far as your budget build drift car, an AE86 would be a good choice, but you have to remember that (with any used car) it's going to take a decent amount of maintenance to keep the engine running well. That's only the first money trap. Second, gas. Enough said. Third, gotta work hard to achieve your dream.

I'm not writing this to discourage you, but just to let you know that to even break in to the scene and have a car to "practice drifting" with takes a lot of effort and sacrifice.

how far can you go on a basically stock 4age? Im saving up my pennies for a car to get started in drifting and the ae86 has thus far been very appealing. I'm pretty much on a high school student's budget and I want to know if suspension etc. will keep me going for a while. when I say basically stock I mean exhaust, intake ignition and the like.

Haha, well maybe not the Lexus versions so much, but the high revving 3SGE-powered Altezzas were likened to the AE86 when they debuted in Japan.

We are considering adding the SXE10, but besides the Altezza Drift Club guys and of course NOB's car, the number of JZX's outweighs Altezzas quite heavily. Then again the Altezza IS known as the modern day AE86 of sorts...
