At AEU86 we already had a picture from a TACN member who photographed it three years ago:

www.aeu86.org/.../2274

The European hachis did feature factory oilcoolers and this is definitely a factory example, so imo nothing special.

it was one from may favorite cars as i was and kid, but far behind the 911turbo, urquattro and e30m3. Heh but 10years laters was this poor car good enough as i had not enough money:P

I remember how it dominates his class in europe touring cars that days.

I liked the Marlboro Charouz car more and have some photo from the museum.

In Germany till 85 was only MAP sensored ae86, in 85 it was posible to order the AFM catalityc version to save some money on enviromental taxes. Oilcoler was stock on the german cars and comon ordered on the swiss cars.

This car is original zenki car. Reglement not alowed to change some parts as intake and exhaust manifold, it has schrick cams around 300 lobe, mahle pistons, carillo conrods, biger alumium oilpan, some cars had dry sump. It made around 190ps due to its restritive manifolds, i think with proper exhaust and itb they were around 220ps.Brake boster is removed.

Rollcage looks as Wiechers steel unit it was also some Heigo units available.

www.halo-racing.de/katalog.pdf

Strut brace is early wiechers one i had this in my first car(But i had seen 4types of german braces and mix them together). I dont know if cusco ever existed. Well the charouz car has adjustable susp. Arms, coilover kit, camber plates. that sure are original and not JDM, I research it in my next visit on the museum.

Heh i would like to know how it all started in japan with the aftermarked parts and the hype, have they copied eu parts or was it reversed, all i know in the 80 you was able to buy much tuning parts from the european brands and tune your car from club to gr A spec. From the Japan parts was it only TRD parts known, that you can buy. I dindt know any other JDM brands before the late 90s. Its here some Japan veteran to clear this out.

Many thanks for wonderfull reports from all the sides of the world.

Antonio i liked your Alice in Wonderland expression about that car.

Yes there is or was? an ae86 scene in europe besides the Japan drift scene. they grow simultaneously from the 80s without touch and influenced each other. Many guys here in Germany(switzerland, belgium) runing those cars from the past 80s in Local rallies, slaloms and on the track. In the times of internet this old generation is overlayed with new one, parts can be easy buy from Usa and japan and the influence from drifting is obvious :( They were back in the time some german companies that provides many parts to tune those vehicles properly. I was no exception as my ideal of beuaty was an silver/black Eudm levin with polished Ronal Turbo or Atiwe wheels, bilstein shock, koni springs, heigo rollcage, weichers etc.... Not ewen known about watanabe cusco and other some stuff.

I was suprised in early 2000 that this car is so popular in Japan and i even dint not know before it was an trueno variant of that :D So i am the oposite of you. Now i like the JDm parts and style etc. But there is still older generation from ae86 drivers that have ringed on the Nordscheife in late 80 as the track were empty from tourist and not so well known, Those drivers stuck on they original cars and original germans tuning parts only and looks with despect over the fancy JDM scene :) and those guys are the real. They care not about stance, low suspension setups deep dish etc, they care about how it all works together and how should it works reliable and efective. They put amout of money to drive those cars forever and have it in perfect working condition. And they still reminds me on the old Tschuchya mountain videos from 80s before the hype started. They are the inspiration for me.

Antonio if you have to visit ring someday let me know and i can drive my old car there,

Maybe i should make story for speedhunters about this oldschool Eu hachi movement. Some foto and VHS material is avialable. and i can maybe organize those old nuts to drive the nordscheife down. Hope you have reserve pants always in bag :P

p.s. sorry about my poor english

Do not hesitate to discover the little "Hossay toyota Museum" in Battice which organizes an annual gathering of European old toyota. The museum has a twenty cars including superb AE86 , CELICA GT, and Toyota 2000 GT !
