After spending some time in Ebisu circuit the other day shooting some drift cars I realized the lack of drift events in this "off-season" is getting to me. I always complain I cover too much drifting during the year but I'm experiencing some rubber-smoke withdrawal symptoms. So I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the other

This is so bizarre. Last Friday, after I shot a few drift cars at Nikko circuit, I was on my way to the actual historical town of Nikko, to relax for a bit before heading up to Ebisu for the Drift Matsuri. As I set the Audi S4 I was driving on cruise control, l sat back and enjoyed some tunes from the crisp Bang & Olufsen audio system. After cruising

On my way up to the Drift Matsuri on Friday I stopped over at Nikko circuit as I heard there was a drift track-day going on, organized in collaboration with T&E. I'm so glad I did take the little detour as I got to see some fantastic cars, total grassroots stuff being driven hard around the track. One car that grabbed my attention was this unmolested

I couldn't pass up using this picture as the opening shot for a last look at the action from the Street Legal event in Nikko. During the driver presentation Jikuya got the judges and spectators falling over laughing when he slowly made his way onto the track on a dekotora- styled bicycle! At the same time Nakamura was on his own customized pushbike

It seems we just can't keep away from tire smoke here at Speedhunters! With Mike and Linhbergh in Vegas for Formula D and Ross at Santa Pod for the NFS European Drift Championship, I certainly couldn't come up empty handed from over here in Japan, could I? So it was yet another early rise as I got in the Legacy and shot up the Higashi Kanto

I think the opening shot of this girl checking over her R32's rear tires perfectly represents this past Sunday's event at Nikko. All the ladies were out to impress and they sure as hell didn't hold back. To give everyone a chance, the competition was divided into three groups: beginners, intermediate and the experts. This HCR32 entered in

Along with all the girls competing in the Queen Battle there were tons of other drifters there to have some fun, and one guy that was stealing all the looks when out on track was Hitoshi Sato in his Lancer Evo 6. The technique was simple, major lift-off before the corner and something resembling a scandinavian flick, then as the car would snap sideways

Non-stop action was the order of the day at the 4th Kazama Auto and Drift Tengoku organized Queen Battle competition. I'm barely able to keep my eyes open, so a selection of teaser shots will have to do until tomorrow's more in-depth post. This is the first grassroots drift event I covered this year, and I was very impressed at both the quality
