One of things I've really grown to appreciate about the traditional hot rod and custom scene is the details - the design of the period carburetor setups, the intricate paintwork, and most of all the car club plaques. As I walked around the Viva Las Vegas show a couple weeks ago, I thought it'd be cool to gather some of these "detail shots"
For my next bit of coverage from the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, I'll be focusing on the car show - held all day Saturday in the parking lot of The Orleans hotel. Besides the hundreds of traditional hot rods and customs that had gathered, there were was plenty of cool stuff to buy, lots of beer consumed, and the occaisonal pinup girl making
Last Friday night, after losing my fair share of cash in the casinos I headed over to the The Orleans Hotel to see if anything was going on at ground zero for Viva Las Vegas. The main show wouldn't be going on until Saturday, but I figured I might be able to catch some cars cruising around under the lights. And while there were a few vintage machines
I just got home a couple hours ago from Sin City after spending the weekend at "Viva Las Vegas" - the Rockabilly festival and car gathering that's been a Vegas tradition for 13 years now. Over the past year I've been to some of the finest hot rod and custom gatherings on the west coast, but this was my first time ever attending Viva
My shoes might still be drying out from the rainstorm over the weekend, but the weather in SoCal at the moment is incredible. You know, one of those picture perfect days where the snow-capped San Gabriel mountains can be seen from all over the LA basin. If only it had been this nice at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday. Oh well, even with the rain, we
I just got home a few minutes ago from a day of Speedhunting with Rod at the Walden Speed Shop in Pomona - concluding what's been an eventful a few days of California hot rod and custom culture. It all kicked off on Saturday with the Mooneyes X-Mas Party at Irwindale Speedway, and even though the rain kept some people away, there was still plenty
I still have a bit more to post from the 2009 Cruisin' Nationals in Santa Maria, so let's get right to it. Up above we have a windshield-less roadster parked alongside a flamed lead sled - two machines that nicely represent the mixture of cars that packed the Santa Maria fairgrounds last weekend. This immaculate '58 Olds Super 88 is known
Alright, here's some more photos from last weekend's Cruisin' Nationals in Santa Maria. I've been finding it hard to choose which pictures I want to post here, because there was frankly too much cool stuff at this event. Typically, I'll have a pretty good idea of what I want to post as I'm walking around an event, but the Cruisin'
For 27 years, the West Coast Kustoms Cruisin' Nationals has been the place to to go to see vintage hot rod and custom cars in California. The event started off in Paso Robles, but a couple years ago the venue was moved down the road a bit to Santa Maria, a coastal town known for it's signature tri-tip steaks. Since coming back to the United
Joining all the custom American cars at the 2009 Mooneyes Nationals was a very impressive lineup of Japanese classic and modern rides. It all started out on the streets around the show venue, like the above Fairlady Z that was parked up in front of the convenience store, showing off its unmistakable lines in the warm morning light. The selection was
