I know how a lot of people that read Speedhunters appreciate vintage JDM machinery. And it's thanks to this site that I've also been able to dive deeper into the world of Japanese classic cars, expanding my knowledge and at the same time getting to see some stunning rides. Back when I visited TA Auto , Ando-san kindly had another Fairlady enthusiast

The aggressive, modern style aero and big wheels might not be everyone's taste, but I think Kei Paddock's NA SR20-powered 510 Bluebird project car is rad. Spotted the Fukuoka Custom Car Show in Feburary. -Mike Garrett

I'm really missing Japan right now. I plugged in my external hard drive a bit ago to hunt for some lowdown car pictures and the memories came flooding back. Memories of Watanabes, SSR's, Solex carbs, and musical horns. We thought you guys might be getting a little tired of the late model flushed out cars we've been showing this month, and

Today (Sept.15) in Japan, Mr. Yutaka Katayama - better known as "Mr.K" will be celebrating his 100th birthday. Nissan enthusiasts should immediately recognize the name, but if you don't, Mr. K is the man responsible for both bringing the Nissan brand to the United States, and for the creation of iconic Nissan/Datsun cars like the original

That's a pretty cool line up of cars isn't it? I suppose the fact that this was taken not in the show itself but in the parking lot next door shows just what kind of event the JCCA New Year Meeting is. Not to take anything from the actual show, but you could spend just as much time checking out the cars in the lots. A lot of people know this

When I visited the East Car shop in Toride earlier this fall, I planned to shoot one of their finished projects and as soon as I arrived, this white Hakosuka Skyline jumped right out at me. The Hakosuka is one of the quintessential vintage Japanese cars and a perfect fit for our Nissan month. Like I stated in the previous story about East Car, the shop's

I was originally planning on running this story last month, but since old school Nissans play a pretty big role here, I figured I would save it until Nissan month. Earlier this fall, I took a trip down to Toride City here in Ibaraki Prefecture where I had made arrangements to visit a classic car dealer and restoration shop called East Car. Although

I spent the afternoon yesterday shooting a couple of upcoming features at a nearby classic car dealer and restoration shop called East Car. Visiting a shop is always a fun thing to do, and I found plenty of cool stuff at East Car that I can't wait to post. For now ,I just wanted to throw up this quick shot of the impressive sight that greets you

Earlier this month, I looked a little bit at the Japanese classic car scene and discussed some of the popular models and different styles of classic car restoration and modification in Japan. One thing that I didn't really touch upon in that post was the "kyusha kai" culture that can be found all over Japan. There are different names that

Throughout the next month I will be doing a number of "101" posts about different aspects of Japanese car culture and I don't think there is a better place to start than with the classic car scene in Japan. After all, the Japanese tuning culture that is so popular around the world would not exist without these nostalgic machines. While
