The term "rat rod" never really had a specific definition - with many people thinking they can just add some patina or flat black to an old car and have a rat rod. We'll never know exactly what a rat rod is, but the car youre about to see is the machine that all so-called rat rods should strive to be. Whether it's a "rat rod"

Boy do I love being a Speedhunter. Where else can I be writing about American LeMans series one moment, and writing about a '57 Chevy from hell the next moment. I spotted this beast at Viva Las Vegas earlier this month, and just knew it deserved a spotlight here. The '57 Chevy is known as one the quintessential American classics, and is a favorite

One of things I've really grown to appreciate about the traditional hot rod and custom scene is the details - the design of the period carburetor setups, the intricate paintwork, and most of all the car club plaques. As I walked around the Viva Las Vegas show a couple weeks ago, I thought it'd be cool to gather some of these "detail shots"

For my next bit of coverage from the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, I'll be focusing on the car show - held all day Saturday in the parking lot of The Orleans hotel. Besides the hundreds of traditional hot rods and customs that had gathered, there were was plenty of cool stuff to buy, lots of beer consumed, and the occaisonal pinup girl making

Last Friday night, after losing my fair share of cash in the casinos I headed over to the The Orleans Hotel to see if anything was going on at ground zero for Viva Las Vegas. The main show wouldn't be going on until Saturday, but I figured I might be able to catch some cars cruising around under the lights. And while there were a few vintage machines

I just got home a couple hours ago from Sin City after spending the weekend at "Viva Las Vegas" - the Rockabilly festival and car gathering that's been a Vegas tradition for 13 years now. Over the past year I've been to some of the finest hot rod and custom gatherings on the west coast, but this was my first time ever attending Viva

Diehard Speedhunters fan Rhys McGee of Sydney Australia sent us this photo of his mate's just-completed Lincoln. If the period style bodywork and paint wasn't enough, a built up 480 cubic inch big block helps get the big cruiser down the road. It's just awesome to see a traditional style custom like this on the roads of Australia, complete

If you hear the name "Barris" , you'll likely picture the wild Hollywood customs built by George Barris - cars like the original Batmobile, and Drag-u-la from the Munsters TV show. Although not as well known as his younger brother, Sam Barris made perhaps an even bigger contribution to the history of custom car building, pioneering the

As I sit here listening to the rain outside turning the LA basin into a disaster area, it's time to continue with my visit to Starlite Rod & Kustom right here in lovely Torrance, California. I've had the chance to visit a lot of fantastic car shops, but as you can see there's something very special about Starlite. In fact, I can't

Last month during our coverage of the Mooneyes X-Mas Party, I did a spotlight on a radical chopped and slammed Chevy pickup convertible. After seeing a sticker on the truck for a shop called Starlite Rod & Kustom, I got in contact to arrange a visit. As It turns out, Starlite is located right just a few minutes away from me, right here in Torrance
