Has it already been a year since I moved back to the US and started covering the 2009 FD season? I remember thinking that '09 was the most exciting year in FD history, but it's already looking like 2010 will crank things up at least another notch or two. Activity has already started down at the Long Beach street course, so it's time to take
I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in SoCal it seems that summer has already come - in March. As soon as we changed the clocks over to daylight savings time a couple weeks ago, temps have climbed into the 80s and pretty much stayed there. And so, from sunny Southern California, here's the final part of my coverage from the XDC
Let's continue with another batch of photos from the XDC season opener at Irwindale, shall we? Based on the vibes from the various blogs and forums out there, it seems like the first-ever XDC event was a success, and it's always great to see new opportunities for up and coming drivers to perform on the national stage. This past weekend the inaugural Xtreme Drift Championship season kicked off, and what better place to start than at Irwindale Speedway, the House of Drift. After hearing about this new series over the past months, I was excited to see how the first event of the new series would go down, and was itiching to shoot my first drift meet of the year... The other day while I was at the local Japanese bookstore I spotted a copy of the February, 2010 issue of Drift Tengoku magazine sitting on the shelf. This is one is a replica of the Hankook GTR drift car, and should be available next year at the same time the real car makes its competition debut. A version of the Hankook drift Camaro is also in the works. I can't wait to see
Here's a nice little video from MeZ Productions featuring pro driver Luke Fink, as well as some of Australia's coolest street drift cars - including the "lowest 180 in the country". Enjoy! -Mike Garrett
Now to continue the review of the 2009 Formula Drift season where we left off yesterday. Following the blazing hot Vegas event, the series headed to the great Pacific Northwest for its annual stop at Evergreen Speedway near Seattle. Under the cool gray skies of Washington it was time to dig in for the home stretch of the season. The Seattle event would
Any way you slice it, 2009 was a huge year for Formula Drift. Among other things, we saw a new champion, new international flavor on the driver roster, plenty of new cars, a strong showing by grassroots drivers, and some of the most intense competition ever. Now, let's take a look back at the season that was for America's top drift series. As
Everything's bigger in Texas, even the tandem drift trains. This was shot at the first-ever Lonestar Bash, held last weekend at Mineral Wells in the heart of Texas. Very good stuff here. -Mike Garrett
