I will be King And you You will be Queen Though nothing Will drive them away We can be Heroes Just for one day We can be us Just for one day If ever a song was just written for a car, David Bowie's Berlin Wall inspired "Heroes" would fit like a glove on the Porsche 911 GT1-98. This week marks the beginning of some intense coverage of the

In a very short period of time the motor race known as Petit Le Mans has acquired “Classic” status. It is now regarded in the same league as its yahoo, elder cousin, the Sebring 12 Hours. Some of this status is because of the association with the Le Mans 24 Hours and some of the status is due to the challenging Road Atlanta track. It is

Back in the glory days of the Roman Empire, the alignment of the planets was considered to be critical to planning any major event. When the planets got together in line then the outlook was generally considered bleak, ask Julius Caesar, he was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44BC by a gang of friends and admirers when they thought that the position

Ok let's jump straight in and look at the dramas from further down the field at the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours. Behind the diesel class, here was another prototype race going on, that of those powered by petrol. Although a factory effort in name, the Lola Aston Martin team is closer in resource terms to the best of the privateers. A titanic battle ensued

Anniversaries are tricky things, looking back tends to fade the negative and accentuate the positive. Nostalgia for a safe past rather than the uncertain present or unknown future. But the years do rattle past quickly so some form of marker post is necessary if only to give focus to the things to come. Back in 1984 I never imagined that I would be still

I'm now back home in the UK, after experiencing some pretty tough shooting conditions at the Nurburgring 24Hs. Porsche has done it again! The Manthey 911 GT3 RSR of Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Marcel Tiemann just managed to hold off the Audi challenge to complete 155 laps of the 24 Hour circuit, 3,933.5 kilometres or 2,444 miles in

As I write this post the race is still continuing, so let's have a quick look at the first half of the run twice round the clock. 4.00pm yesterday, Dirk Adorf took full advantage of his team's pole position to outdrag the opposition in the Reader Automotive Ford GT. For the next 50 minutes he kept his orange and white rumbler in front of Marc

Two days of pounding round the Nurburgring in conditions that range from the sublime to the ridiculous have determined the grid for the 2009 Nurburgring 24 Hours that is due to start at four in the afternoon local time, tomorrow Saturday 23rd May. According to my information there will be an impressive 170 cars to start. After all the talk of Audi R8

Porsche month on Speedhunters was packed with features and we couldn't fit everything into one month, so we decided to keep this back for a feature as the holiday season approaches. Let me know if your interested in these sort of features and I will publish some more livery posts if there is interest. Porsche has a very successful history in motorsport

Seeing old race cars for the first time in ages is a bit like bumping into an old flame, there is a natural tendancy to don the rose tinted spectacles, remember the good times and forget the bad. Racing imitates Life. Those of you paying attention will know that Rod, Antonio and I were guests of Porsche AG at their Leipzig Factory earlier this year
